To not pay for an unwanted child?

Hypothetical.

it came up at work today.

if the pregnancy was a result of a one night stand, regardless of whether precautions were taken, if the man doesn’t want the pregnancy and the woman decides to continue, should he be able to opt out of child support?

my personal answer and I’m not sure on the nuance (ie do you have be on the birth certificate and thus can claim parental responsibility in order to be compelled to pay maintenance or a dna test to compel the man) my personal answer is no, he cannot or shouldn’t be able to opt out once the child is born. All sex (with a woman of reproductive age) carries the risk of pregnancy, you can lower the risk but never fully remove it. Abstinence is the only way to do that. To do the action you’ve got to be prepared for the consequences. It’s very easy to flippantly say ‘get an abortion’ but for some women that isn’t viable.

tbh I'm confounded that anyone thinks it's okay for the OP scenario for men to just... walk away

that anyone thinks it's okay for men to have one night stands, unprotected, and then just... shrug and walk away from any resulting offspring

the bar for responsible behaviour for men is so damn low, it's on the floor!

Why would you want to put a child in a predicament like that. The father does NOT want them. And then you will go and rant about ahhh he cannot provide for his child but he’s with other women. Or he doesn’t come see he’s child but he’s with he’s other children. A child also needs a father and mother figure in order for a ‘happy home’. And women trap men. End of argument.

🙄

Let’s say the male is the one carrying the child. They have more options than he women ie morning after pill, coil or abortion and many other contraceptive options yet the male still wants the women to contribute even though she said NO. Ok. Now even if she does contribute money what about being physically there for the child and providing the ‘happy home’ for the child, you cannot force that on them. Now why in the earth would you want that for your child. It doesn’t make sense. I say that to say this, pick the father wisely. I personally don’t believe in abortion but I know I wouldn’t find my self in that predicAment because I know I want the happy home and contribution and 100% provided by both figures. Why settle for 20% and have a miserable child.

You cannot guarantee a happy home within a relationship nor can you know how a man will parent until he does or does not even if he says he will and says he wants a child many as you see on here, do not parent. They donate the sperm then expect the woman to parent. Also many are unhappy because abuse happens far too often during pregnancy. It is the most common thing a woman experiences during pregnancy.

Why have a child at all I say?

There are many unhappy children in double parent households and many happy children in single parent households.

shejokes11 · 23/03/2025 19:03

Ofcourse you can there is such thing as a healthy relationship where two people actually want to conceive and give the 100%. If a man is telling you I don’t want this child that is a telling sign.

🙄

If it affects you then you must of made an unwise decision hence why your supporting that factor. 😊

shejokes11 · 23/03/2025 19:05

The women wining on the post are clearly the same ones who go on a drunken night have one night stands and expect that same male to father right. Go cry about it.

No you cannot guarantee it. Yes there is such a thing but it is not guaranteed. Many think they have it and then find out as soon as the child is born that they have in fact a 2nd child who is a useless parent.

If she is saying she doesn't want a child then that is a telling sign to ensure you declare your fertility and get a vasectomy.

It affects me in the sense that I see the children in my classroom and the rest of my school going without due to feckless parents who aren't supporting the children they helped bring into the world.

But you do you.

You are so wrong! I have no kids and have a partner and neither of us want kids with each other. He has two and doesn't want more. However we both take responsibility as that is what we should do. It is not just on me to make sure that doesn't happen and not just on him. It is on both of us AND if our precautions fail then it is on both of us to deal with the consequences as both of us have made that happen.

It is called adulting.

What you mean is you want men to be able to jizz wherever and heaven forbid we actually tell them to wear a condom! I mean men being told to take responsibility - shocking! Lock up the women doing that! What an affront to men! And then when men are shit parents it is on her not him because he can pretend he was trapped because he didn't know his penis produced a baby if he jizzed in a vagina!

Nope. You got it wrong. I’m saying for the one night stand factor only that applies. You have said your in a relationship. That’s completely different that is most likely to happen in that situation.

I've been married for over 20 years and we have 3 usually lovely teenagers together.

I think the problem is very much you excusing people who don't want to support children they helped bring into the world, even if it is only financial support being asked for. Children need things. Their parents should be the ones looked to to provide it first and foremost, whether they 'wanted' to be parents or not.

That’s my point exactly. But when you chase someone who doesn’t want to do these things it’s absolutely pointless you will be affecting yourself as men do what they please. It’s sad. But it’s life.

You said that the woman complaining were of the type to have drunken ONS and get up le fluff. I am proving you wrong. As I am complaining that men should take responsibility for their penis and I am not having sex with all and sundry.

So stop men chasing women with their dicks out. Tell them to wrap it up!

I feel sorry for men in this situation because the woman has the choice to have an abortion so will never be stuck with an unwanted child but the man is at the mercy of the woman’s decision.

Men don’t have to have PIV sex. Any unwanted pregnancy would be as a result of their decision to proceed knowing the disadvantage they face that you describe.
And many women are left with unwanted children after men change their mind late on about wanting them and disappear. That’s the disadvantage they face.

if only you saw the amount of comments where women were saying they don’t enjoy Anal. Go get contraception and you wouldn’t have to question this.

In many cases no they do not consent to be jizzed in but men do it anyway.

Icyboy · 23/03/2025 20:04

Well let's flip this, if the women wanted to get rid of the child but the man wanted to keep it then should she be forced to carry it? If you say no, then he should be able to give up his rights and not pay, but you'll all say well it's her body, her choice, cant it be his wallet, his choice?

He used his dick to make his choice.

Maybe next time he needs to use his brain to make his choice.

Every time a man ejaculates into a woman he is consenting to become a father, with all that implies.
