It’s goodbye from me

I’ve been on mumsnet since the early days, it’s seen my family grow up and become adults, seen me become a grandparent.

its been a happy place, a supportive place through thick and thin and I’ve made lots of contacts who I will miss.

the supportive threads are being lost amongst ones of hatred and intolerance for difference, for the others and by threads about high incomes not being enough, of how disabled people are increasingly hated, how children with SEND are an inconvenience. Boomers, of which I am not one, are hated.

is there anybody mumsnet members actually like?

im taking a break, however long is needed until the hatred is less.

OP posts:
LBFseBrom · 19/03/2025 20:56

I'm a 'boomer' and a pensioner and have experienced no hatred towards me on Mumsnet. I have seen some very hateful threads at times but there are plenty of good and interesting ones in which people give support to each other.

However if you need a break, have one. I have felt jaded at times, not so much on here but by internet posting generally and had some time out.

There's no need to announce, go for a while.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 19/03/2025 21:02

Anyfucker That is a blast from the past, never had any issues though and don't remember them being extremely rude.

I knew my place. 😅
Many of the old posters are still regular posters.

It was fun too, wine o clock.

Zone2NorthLondon · 19/03/2025 20:26

Some Mumsnet posters have created this mythical past, were it was happy, supportive back in their day. It’s a shared delusion

no, i genuinely think it is far worse today
people can hide behind anonymity and say dreadful things, gang up on people

i have been here since 2006, though you wouldnt know it as name changing is easy!

Frenzi · 19/03/2025 21:05

Its not compulsory to be here. Why announce you are leaving. Just go! Very odd!!

NebulousWhistler · 19/03/2025 21:05

Charlize43 · 19/03/2025 18:21

You will miss all the viciousness; all the man-hating threads; all those financially struggling on 100K a year; MILs being torn apart; and the bad fashion choices.

I give it an hour or so, and then you'll name change and be back!

£100k doesn’t even pay boarding school fees for one child any more!

<misses point of flouncy thread>

JanglingJack · 19/03/2025 21:07

and it's goodbye from her...

Sorry couldn't resist.

It was a bit slow coming. The old comedy cells aren't quite firing as quickly as they used to.

It's okay, I'm going too... Blimey. Tough crowd.

beasmithwentworth · 19/03/2025 21:08

Oh I loved @anyfucker.Yes absolutely brutal at times but also funny!

IHaveDefectedToTeamDog · 19/03/2025 21:10

I'm really going to miss you 😢😢😞

0ohLarLar · 19/03/2025 21:10

I actually want some of the benefit changes because i think the state supporting too many people actually limits what can be provided to the most severely disabled and I'd rather the help was concentrated where need is greatest

BobbyBiscuits · 19/03/2025 21:11

If people chat ableist shite on here I call them out. I'm not leaving just because of some people's ignorance.

JelliedEelsandBananas · 19/03/2025 21:11

ThePurpleBuffalo · 19/03/2025 18:05

MN is really stressing me out today. The ableism is through the fucking roof. It's exhausting to read.

I agree. It’s interesting though it’s almost like some kind of social experiment that has made people speak their minds. Almost like if racism was no longer illegal you just know that a lot of people would let their guard down and let the hatred and resentment pour freely. It’s quite disgusting on here and eerily interesting at the same time. Clinical and business like language used to de humanise the disabled to make them seem like statistics and a financial burden eg disabled people are not hated. The rise in claimants is not supportable

SirDanielBrackley · 19/03/2025 21:13

Isn't there a "Flouncer's Corner" for this sort of post?

This. This overuse of emotive language, especially the word “hate” is rather than childish and very unhelpful. Hate is a very strong word and something few of us experience. Not agreeing with every tiny issue around disability claimants isn’t hate.

The fewer people whining about MN and using the word “hate” out of context, the better IMO 😂

Yes but how else will OP get the attention she craves as no one really hangs out there

Hwi · 19/03/2025 21:16

WhereIsMyJumper · 19/03/2025 18:12

I doubt anyone cares OP.

On a side note, I frequently see posts referred to as ‘full of hatred’ on here when they’re nothing of the sort. Usually just an alternative view point.

I have also seen multiple posts deleted for ‘breaking talk guidelines’ when they don’t. It’s just that sometimes, people don’t like reading things they disagree with and so hit the report button and I am not convinced MNHQ read them before deleting

Bravo!

I have developed a stomach ulcer from so long being unable to afford to eat properly and having to take strong painkillers on an empty stomach.

So don't you worry about people being made to suffer on a pittance. We already are. So far starving me and making sure I can't afford heating has still not cured my disease and made me look for work. It's only made me even sicker and cost the taxpayer even more because now I need even more medical treatment.

That's why reading this bullshit is heartbreaking. Throwing disabled people under the bus is fucking horrible.

Yep. Today I've read that the only excuse for not working is being in a coma. Luckily that wasn't on MN but still - people are loving being able to rip into the sick and disabled.

Why aren’t you going to the food bank so you can eat food before taking your medication? I don’t understand why you haven’t done this if you are struggling. There are warm centres everywhere in the U.K. since the Russian invasion sent prices rocketing. No one needs to ever starve in this country, there are plenty of options.

Won’t be long before they turn on those in a coma as well ! An ICU bed costs a lot per day ! 🤦😭

The food bank isn't some magical solution. They barely give you anything for a start. Most of it requires clever and inventive cooking backed up with other ingredients you need to source yourself, which is difficult and physically not always possible for me. I also can't always get there because I'm not always well enough to leave the house. I need food delivered to me that is simple to prepare - which I cannot afford. Neither can I travel elsewhere to somewhere that is warm because I am bed bound a lot of the time.

Nice of you to blame me for being hungry and cold though.

What?! I am asking why she is ‘starving’ when we have food banks and soup kitchens and a whole spectrum of options!! What the hell. Maybe she doesn’t know how to access them? I was being helpful

verysmellyjelly · 19/03/2025 21:37

Most people have no interest in attacking the seriously ill and disabled. But are understandably frustrated to see any concern at all about welfare costs misrepresented as putting the boot into the most vulnerable. As someone in a very vulnerable group of claimants myself, I don’t feel personally attacked or threatened by these discussions going on. Does anyone really think it helps to try and shame the public into silence about their concerns? I honestly feel like that is the worst possible thing to do when the truly seriously disabled can’t help but rely on taxpayer support.
