Anyone watched the Gabby Petito documentary

Worriedsickmostofthetime · 16/03/2025 12:11

So disclaimer first… I have only watched the first episode. Not worried about spoilers because obviously we all know how the story ends. The story is told from the perspective of people in Gabbys life, her friends and her family.

Whilst it is evident given what happened that Brian is guilty of what he did. Did anyone notice how often Gabby clicked her tongue or rolled her eyes at him in annoyance.

How do you accidentally hit someone over the head and strangle them with your bare hands? No wonder survivors don't want to go to court.

ImNotIroningThat · 16/03/2025 16:03

I love that he/she is not “worried about spoilers” like the brutal murder of a loved and cherished daughter is a thriller for her entertainment.

Well, I didn't watch the documentary for research purposes so that I could publish a serious article about the matter.

I watched it for entertainment. As did everyone else on the thread.

Don’t waste your breath OP. People on MN do not understand nuance. You can say until you’re blue in the face that you aren’t excusing the murdering scum bags behaviour and STILL people will say “oh, so you’re excusing this murdering scum bag’s behaviour?”

Yep.

This thread really shows that lots of mumsnetters have incredibly poor reading comprehension and an overwhelming desire to be offended. Tiresome.

No, they didn’t. Don’t judge everyone else on your low standards.

Thank you.

Excuse me while disappear again under the rock I came from for even questioning that she came across as less than perfect whilst also knowing full well that no one deserves to die at the hands of another human.

Oh the faux naivety

Sure.

What were your necessary reasons for watching then?

I’m a solicitor advocate, what’s yours? Laundrie apologist?

hididdlyho · 16/03/2025 18:20

BL's Mum sounded like she had some pretty serious issues. Who agrees in a letter to get rid of a body if needed after their son's gf disappears? And there was an earlier red flag when she secretively sent some of Gabby's documents back to her parent's address because she wasn't appreciative enough of the meal she cooked them. Doesn't excuse what BL did, but it sounds like Gabby and her extended step families had pretty healthy functional relationships and she was unaware of the severity of the situation she was getting in to with BL because she was young and too trusting.

Potsofpetals · 16/03/2025 12:19

I’ve watched it all and then some.

I think Gabby was a highly strung individual who pushed and pushed at people. She suffered with OCD and appeared to be hard work.

It is no excuse for what Brian did but I do think it was a spur of the moment thing that happened. I don’t think he ever had any intent to kill her when they set out that day.

Wow, you come across like you are somewhat defending him.

BustingBaoBun · 16/03/2025 18:21

Whether he murdered her in cold blood or it was accidental we don't know

How can strangling someone until they are dead be accidental? You don't just hold someone's neck until they die, apparently it needs a lot of force and takes minutes.

What I do not understand is this...

  1. The OP hasn't even watched all the programme which makes it really strange to start a thread on it.
  2. It is beyond me why he/she has to keep stressing that she wants to discuss the murder victim's behaviour prior to her murder. Why? She was murdered, there is no excuse whatsoever

I didn't watch it purely for entertainment. It was huge when she disappeared and I was curious why her case was so prominent. I found it shocking.

PiastriThePastry · 16/03/2025 18:21

I don’t really understand why it needs pointing out that this young woman wasn’t perfect. Surely that’s blatantly obvious? None of us are perfect, to varying degrees. Same as saying it looks like it was a toxic relationship.. again, obviously!! She was murdered by the man she loved and should’ve felt safe with, it clearly wasn’t a healthy relationship. I just find this scratching around for reasons or excuses for Brian Laundrie’s behaviour and the fact he attacked his girlfriend so violently to be very strange.

Britishsummertime22 · 16/03/2025 18:25

I've reported this thread. I cannot believe some of the attitudes on here towards a young woman being murdered by her partner who was meant to keep her safe. I hope the family never see this.

I already said, I watched it for entertainment.

Dh and I sat down on a Friday night and said 'Ohhh, let's find something to watch then'. And we found this advertised and watched it. With drinks and snacks.

So you watched it purely in a professional capacity? So dedicated. I'm awestruck here.

I'm interested as to what made you think a Netflix show was the best source for your professional research though. Do you conduct all of your extracurricular learning through the medium of Netflix?

You're coming across terribly. I hope you don't have daughters. Or sons tbh. These attitudes are awful.

Why do you feel the NEED to "question that she came across as less than perfect?"

What mature adult with any common sense EXPECTS a victim to be 'perfect'? The only people who have that expectation are misogynists who need women to be plaster-cast saints before they can unequivocally assign them the label of 'victim'. Women can't just be murder victims - they have to be good murder victims.

You watched a documentary series about a horrible murder of a young woman whose killer (her boyfriend) left her body out as carrion for vultures and whose parents tried to prevent accountability or even the body being discovered. And you thought it necessary to start a thread on the subject of the victim ROLLING HER EYES at her would-be murderer in some video footage.

So yeah, you DON'T seem to have learned any lessons from this. But do watch that documentary on Netflix I told you about. It'll be interesting to see whether you start another thread about how the MALE victim in that wasn't a perfect little victim either and sassed his abuser back.

Do you realise that you can watch a documentary to learn?

ImNotIroningThat · 16/03/2025 18:39

Worrying you find the need to deploy a laughing emoji on a thread about someone who has been brutally murdered at the hands of someone who was supposed to be her significant other. I pity your family.

For someone who didn't intend to kill her he took a lot of care over that and concealing his tracks.

I'm absolutely certain he intended to, and she was in danger for months before he murdered her because she'd told him she wanted to end it.

Brian was an incredibly chilling and controlling individual. Horrific. His parents and sister should be in jail.
