To be embarrassed my colleague announced my coat size to whole office

Bit embarrassing … or am I being over sensitive?

OP posts:
Fountofwisdom · 15/03/2025 19:51

Your colleague is a bitch and clearly said it to be a bitch. I would be mortified too. Does anyone in your workplace actually like her? She sounds like the sort of sad sack who makes wildly inappropriate comments in a desperate attempt to be ‘funny’.

BeaLola · 15/03/2025 19:53

Could be worse OP, I was at work the other week and a colleague commented on the dress that I was wearing and saying how nice she thought I looked in iit and how much she liked it , where was it from .. I duly answered only for one of my other colleagues to say very loudly " really I thought they only went up to a 22 ".... xx

EmeraldShamrock000 · 15/03/2025 19:54

She is a dick, no excuses, she said it to be a dick.
No other reason.

Tapsthemic · 15/03/2025 19:55

OP, we don’t need any context - that is a massive overstep! How dare they. I’d bring it up with them - or if you don’t feel you can, then their manager, especially if they have form for “putting their foot in it”. They sound like a walking HR nightmare. It’s not good enough.

No because you think 14 is a large size and continue to double down on that. Unless by some chance you are from the US where their sizing is different and a 14 there is like an 18 here a 14 is by no means a large size. And your continual insistence it is makes you as unpleasant as the woman the OP has to put up with at work.

Edited

Canada here. Same sizing at the States. Yes, 14 is a bit large.

😱 What a bitch! Why, just why do these women feel the need to revert back to high school 'mean girls?' I would tell her the 90s (or insert correct/slightly wrong decade) are calling, and they want her back. Then "really, wow, I didn't realise you were in your 50s, I was a decade out, and I'm usually so good at guessing ages!" 😂

A UK 14 is a US 18.

Theywerebrilliant · 15/03/2025 20:02

You clearly work in the same office as the OP, unbelievable comments 😳
Sorry that was to

@BeaLola

A UK 14 is a US 18.

It’s the other way around, actually.

eg a US 6 is a UK 10, a US 10 is a UK 14, a US 14 is a UK 18.

Isn’t it the other way round? A US 14 equates to a UK 18, I thought.

Yes, the UK are two sizes larger than America. A size 4-6 US, is size 8-10 here.

Twilight7777 · 15/03/2025 20:11

Context needed. Was it sneery or a critical comment?

A comment like that could only be used to humiliate/shame op I would have thought.

Gonners · 15/03/2025 20:14

Are you sure that was your coat size, OP, and not your colleague's IQ?

Regardless UK 14 still large.

Evidently, it's very low (an audible knock on your desk may have been appropriate at that moment op).

So a US 10 you're saying is large than. Is BMI included in your opinion?

For the most part yes. Because I’m aware there is the very rare exception of bodybuilders but let’s be honest that’s rare.

Well height makes a different as well obviously. It's certainly not plus size, more of a medium.

Anyway why are you fixated with a UK 14?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/03/2025 20:24

@WearyAuldWumman btw tried to tag you on our calm little friendly thread, but don't think it worked.

Didn't it all begin with the mention of the tall, skinny person who had to wear a size 14 coat because of her unusually large (but hidden) pelvis?

Oh thank you. What's the name of the thread? Maybe I missed it.

Or the standard retort of, "Thanks for trying to embarrass me, I can lose weight but you'll always be a bitch!'

That was what would come out of my mouth. "I might be fat, but I can lose weight. You'll always be an asshole/bitch/twat waffle/idiot."

Not really unless you’ve cleared 6 foot.

Someone else made a reference to a size 14. I replied. Everyone else got offended.
