Too much ick?

Recently met a guy online, handsome, funny, self sufficient, respectful, the list goes on. But theres just one problem and i dont know if its just me. He finishes our phone calls with "bye kiss kiss" and i just die a little inside. He asks me to say it back and i just cant. Am i unreasonable not to finish our private conversations like this? Hes not really asking much i suppose.

If he wants to say it himself, fine - but he asks you to say it back? That’s weird as fuck. I’d have the ick too. Throw this one back.

LadyGAgain · 12/03/2025 00:03

Nah. He doesn't get to dictate your language. Byeeeee

TwistedWonder · 12/03/2025 00:06

🤢

Sorry I’d be cringing so hard my fanny would clamp shut.

Ablondiebutagoody · 12/03/2025 00:13

He sounds revolting

Devianinc · 12/03/2025 00:17

You don’t even know him and he’s already trying to control the relationship, “bye kiss kiss” . lol, that’s pretty funny, is he joking maybe.

Shitmonger · 12/03/2025 00:25

Dear god 😂

SwedishEdith · 12/03/2025 00:32

That's like when your answer phone read out a text message.

FightingFish · 12/03/2025 00:40

He sounds vile, just end it and block him.

ItGhoul · 12/03/2025 02:08

He sounds like a creep.

Headingtowardsdivorce · 12/03/2025 02:13

You're not being unreasonable at all to die a little inside, but why on earth have you not told him that? Well, not exactly that, that would be a bit harsh, but I would have had to have said something to him by now along the lines of , please stop saying that, it's not attractive in the slightest!

Vile? For saying: 'Bye, kiss, kiss'?
Bit extreme, no?

Teanbiscuits33 · 12/03/2025 02:43

Cringeworthy. It would be enough for me to stop seeing him because it’s so infantile! I was chatting to a man on OLD once and deemed it acceptable to ignore him because he messaged me with ‘Wuu2?’ when he was 33, so ‘Bye. Kiss, kiss’ is a no without a shadow of a doubt 🤣 God knows why they think talking like a child is acceptable 🤣🤣

PuddledPeople · 12/03/2025 02:56

Just tell him you don’t like the phrase and asking you to say it back - ick.

Isittimeformynapyet · 12/03/2025 02:58

@Teanbiscuits33 what does Wuu2 even mean?

OP, I wouldn't take kindly to anyone trying to force my speech. If I liked him enough I'd just take the piss out of him so he stopped.

Dita73 · 12/03/2025 03:02

It’s over

This. May be all that’s needed.

It means ‘what you up to?’ 🤣

OfficerChurlish · 12/03/2025 03:12

I quite easily could put up with him saying it, if I otherwise liked him and no other red flags. But if he pushed me to say it (and clearly was serious, not joking) after one "no - bye", I'd be side-eyeing him very very hard.

BooomShakeTheRoom · 12/03/2025 03:15

Is he trying to replicate what a previous girlfriend said, or his mum?!

Very strange for him to want to dictate how you end conversations - I’d be turned off by that too.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 12/03/2025 05:45

Yeah it's a bit cringe but to describe him as vile and repulsive is a bit OTT!

Sorry, it was revolting not repulsive, but still....

bifurCAT · 12/03/2025 06:00

Lol, if he's perfect in every other way, and this is the worst thing about him, surely the best approach would be to tell him it's not for you, that you're not really into that, and you're set?

No wonder half of the threads on MN are "where are all the good men?" if this is the threshold of rejection.

Exactly what I was thinking

Stickyspringchicken · 12/03/2025 07:37

Thanks for the replies everyone, pleased im not the only one who thinks it's awful. I have mentioned to him i dont feel comfortable saying it back but he just wont take a telling. Mentioned he would gag me and use a paddle to spank me and "kiss kiss" would be our safe word. He would get me to say it one way or another. I just dont know where to go from here
