Mark Carney taking on Trump

RedHot2025 · 10/03/2025 16:03

Fighting talk from Mark Carney today. He will win the trade war with America. Blames Trump entirely for this trade war.

He will apply from today 25% surcharge on energy to the 3 US states they supply. Means around 100 dollars per month per family in those states.

Trump is a buffoon as well as a bully and people will not tolerate his actions.

Does Trump have dementia?

Or is he thick as shite?

YABU he's just thick

YANBU he has dementia

Nah you’re alright, unlike Biden’s Afghanistan speech, I’ll make a smooth exit plan.

GildedRage · 10/03/2025 23:12

@HangryLilacGoose and was it JT that was a lightweight or his party?
his first term was bland and he was re-elected during the pandemic for most people "just because" it wasn't a great time for a change. At this point people were simply sick of him.
if it's a party issue then the reality is MC wont be able to change their manifesto.
i see his pick of chief of staff is controversial.

I’m struggling to find specific Canadian products, tbh, especially outside of maple syrup. The only lentils I can find showing their country of origin as Canada are at M&S. For my family the biggest “buy Canadian” thing we can do is send our youngest to Canada this summer to hang out with grandma!

I bought DS2 some ASDA nutrigrain dupes that he wanted that turned out to be made in Canada.

The majority stakeholder in associated British foods who own brands like Jordans and Dorset cereals, among others is part Canadian.

McCain of the oven chips and Strong roots brand is Canadian owned.

I think (and thought) that he, specifically, was a lightweight.

His party...well, they're pretty bland status-quo centrists but I'd take them over the Conservatives in a heartbeat and I think Jagmeet has been a hugely underwhelming NDP leader.

Not exactly spoiled for choice.

That’s the mainstream media for you. It usually takes people a while to wake up to the lies, of course some will never get there. wef “progressives” painted in the best light when in reality it’s the opposite.

When Biden didn’t know what day of the week it was I bet none of you cried dementia then or moaned about the influence of billionaires.

Aah the phrase wake up. It's so 2020....

But it's actually possible to not like any of the options you had at the ballot box. We've been laughing at you for a while. But the orange buffoon is a lying, dangerous shitshow.

Poor Canada, they’ve now got the worst person to clean up a decade long slump and failures by that pathetic creep Trudeau. An unelected WEF globalist with no parliamentary seat, pushed by the elites. Yeah the Canadian people are gonna love this. I hope Trump doubles down before carney ruins Canada like Trudeau.

ODFO. Trudeau hasn't ruined Canada. Get off your high-horse. If you are Canadian, then you are f-ing unpatriotic to say our country is ruined. If you aren't then stay out of our politics. Elbows up mf'er.

MuckFusk · 11/03/2025 01:04

He is both stupid and has dementia, so I could not vote in the poll.

Can't argue with that. Spot on.

Well last nights election coverage (in Canada) was really well done. I've never watched one before.
Both JT and MC's had a daughter deliver a section of their speeches and both did a great job.
I really enjoyed listening to Chretien's speech he was awesome at 92 years of age.
For me it will be a difficult election as I was sick of the previous Liberal situation with seemingly nothing happening on any front. Which had me thinking PC was the way to change and make things happen (increased development on all fronts) BUT in MC's speech (which seemed very wartime) he indicated building more and building fast. So last night might have swayed me as I do think Trump will make mincemeat of PP.
Personally I hope MC holds off on an election till the fall, allows Canada to see what his plans are. Because PP has really not given lots of details on how he plans to deliver his concepts or who will be holding key positions. I quite like Melanie J.

Nothing happening? We got public dental care, which is a huge achievement. We are also on track to get pharmacare, which the Tories would stop. The change they would make will be disastrous for the poor, naturally.
You are right that Polievre will suck up to Trump.
I'm a Green voter (when I'm not voting strategically against the Tories) but I'm not going to say the Liberals have done nothing, because that simply isn't true.

Oh good grief. The hackneyed right wing talking points are coming a mile a minute.

He was elected only by so called "Liberal" party membership, he has never won the popular vote from the public and he's not even an MP.

It's just another WEF power play, he's merely replacing the previous WEF'er
https://www.weforum.org/people/justin-trudeau/

Remember it was the so called "Liberal" party who were freezing peoples bank accounts for protesting or donating to protesters a few years ago.

Bullshit. Those people were terrorists. I was there, so don't try telling me they were just "peacefully protesting." I know people who were attacked, and people whose health was ruined by the constant, toxic fumes and incessant blaring house, so don't you dare. Then, after sickening so many people, they tried to block entrance to a hospital.
Then there was the attempted arson, and so much more.

Edited to add; nobody was investigated just for giving them handouts. Only the bank accounts of terrorists were frozen.

MuckFusk · 11/03/2025 01:30

Apologies @GildedRage .
Spelled Poilievre wrong. I often forget the first i because of how it's pronounced. Any way you spell it, he sucks. He's a charisma black hole.

God the opposite. Don't think people understand how much more of a financial shitshow brexit could have been

This. Carney is the right person for this job, and God knows we need some steady hands on the international stage right now.

I think it’s Doug Ford putting the levy on electricity since he’s the ON premier.

As a Canadian (living in the U.K.) I repeat myself often with this point but it should be noted that the boycotts everyone is seeing from Canadians has more to do with Trump threatening a sovereign country with annexation than it does the tariffs.

Correct, with the option to shut the power down altogether as a last resort. Obviously nobody wants that, but if it has to be, Trump is to blame.

Polls can change. I imagine Carney will have a positive impact on the Liberals’ support.

Absolutely. I was going to vote Conservative to get that twat Trudeau out although Polievre doesn’t sit right with me.
Now Carney is the leader I’ll be voting Liberal.

HangryLilacGoose · 11/03/2025 02:23

BIossomtoes · 10/03/2025 18:47

Polls can change. I imagine Carney will have a positive impact on the Liberals’ support.

Some recent polls, with Carney as the hypothetical leader, show the Liberals in the lead (and others tied or very close).

I think he'll win. Particularly with Trump's second term looking so disastrous, and the annexation threats, I think Canadians have come to realize that we don't need some cheap knock-off peddling similar divisive politics.

You'll always have some dyed-in-wool conservatives and a smattering of low-information conspiracy-loving numpties but I think most regular Canadians will get behind Carney.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/03/2025 02:31

You would seriously vote Polievre and his doom brand of conservatism just because you dislike Trudeau? How stupid. 🤦‍♀️

HangryLilacGoose · 11/03/2025 02:45

It'll probably be really helpful to Carney, both in the election and the trade war, that the US economy is currently tanking because they entrusted it to an absolute moron.

I expect Reform UK will similarly drop off, before too long.

CJsGoldfish · 11/03/2025 03:25

Clavinova · 10/03/2025 21:11

CJsGoldfish
He pulled all of Columbia's funding because of the student protests and 'disappeared' the lawful American citizen who was in charge. Dude has a green card

Green card holders are not American citizens - Rishi Sunak held a green card. The man was also facing sanctions from the university I believe.

You are right. I should have said Permanent Resident. Legally entitled to live, study and work in the US. Married to a US citizen who was also threatened with detention despite being 8 months pregnant🙄
anyway, deportation has been blocked for now.
Also not charged with a crime so they’ll have to create one (negotiating with the University on behalf of students protesting probs isn’t enough) before the hearing on Wed.
And yes, apparently the ‘new committee’ is investigating students involved in the protests which began after the orange fuckwit threatened them. They would have well and truly received the message and had no choice but to take action if they ever want to receive another cent 🙄
Khalil was awarded his Masters already but I guess if they are told to, they can revoke it

@HangryLilacGoose well the law says they don’t have to be an MP. As the chosen leader of the party in power, he becomes the PM. It isn’t the first time it has happened.

And he’ll run in a Liberal safe seat, so will be an elected MP.

Lots of people think the election will be called on Sunday. With Easter to be avoided, I’ll say Monday 5 May.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/03/2025 04:46

he is deep state controlled

Oh my sweet summer child. Trump is in the pocket of Putin. Carney is a boring Canadian. Deep state, my arse.
