Would you judge a 26 year old (mum of 2) who casually sleeps with someone who is 18?

Would really appreciate people’s opinions on this, thank you

No. I had a 26 year old boyfriend when I was 19 and nobody thought that was odd. He had been married and divorced already.

SemperIdem · 10/03/2025 07:39

I’d judge insofar as I personally wouldn’t have slept with an 18 year old at 26.

I however, was in a relationship with someone 20 years older than me, at 19. So horses for courses.

I find all all the “their brain isn’t developed” rhetoric so ridiculously infantilising. We’re talking about young adults, not small children.

It sounds like a friends with benefits situation rather than a relationship, most likely they’ve either met through work (retail/hospitality) or down the pub. Odds on him meeting the children and becoming stepdad very slim.

JMSA · 10/03/2025 07:48

You'd better believe that I'd judge!

I bet he had a whale of a time and would disagree with all of you. 😂

Gross

Summerbay23 · 10/03/2025 07:56

Yes, I’d judge.

Gross

Why on earth is it gross that an 18 year old would enjoy having sex with a 26 year old?

Would you be having a laugh about an 18 year old girl having a whale of a time with 26 year old dad of two?

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 10/03/2025 08:37

@BIossomtoes Would you still find it so lolz if your son was the eighteen year old involved? Then hypothetically switch genders, your eighteen year old daughter and a twenty six year old man. Still a side splitter then?

heroinechic · 10/03/2025 08:50

@Nevertrustacop most 18 year old lads are not so desperate for sex that they are grateful for the opportunity with a 26 year old mother of two

Have you met an 18 year old lad lately? They absolutely are desperate for sex and an older woman is top bragging rights amongst their friends 😂

Is the age of consent now for those over 20?

A Teenager is just someone who has an age with the number ending in 'teen'. What does that mean in actual fact?

Is someone who is 20 suddenly very very different to someone who is 19?

He's an adult, 2 years over the age of consent, as long as she hasnt been his teacher or lecturer or something then its for them to decide.

Just because something is "legal" doesn't always make it right.

Casual sex, unfortunately, doesn't really exist. There is always the risk of pregnancy in heterosexual sex and the risk of STIs in all sex. If the woman gets pregnant and decides to carry the pregnancy through to term then the 18 year old boy and her and her existing children will be forced into a relationship forever. Is that something either of them want or are ready for. My children have been taught that sex produces babies. Yes it's fun and exciting and lovely, but ultimately if your having PIV sex then there is a risk of pregnancy. So before you do it think about whether you want to co-parent with this person for the rest of your life. It's not romantic and it's not exciting but it's true.

A school that has uniform for yr13 students? Is it private?

Most Scottish state schools expect students to wear uniform. Even in sixth year.

SophiaBrown · 10/03/2025 09:23

Absolutely

Bumblebeestiltskin · 10/03/2025 10:39

Yes, grim.

No. If it's purely casual sex between two consenting adults, then why should an age gap matter? Could be 18 and 80, but if they're both physically enjoying each other sexually then that's all that matters. (Obviously it's pretty unlikely with that example, but each to their own)

You say it's nobody's business but theirs, if they are past the age of consent, and 'two consenting adults.'

But people are still entitled to judge - and think it's grim. Many 18 year olds are still like children, not fully grown yet mentally or physically in some cases, and it's gross for anyone over 25-30 to be 'dating' anyone who is in their teens, even if it's 17, 18, or 19.

16 is the age of consent to shag, do you think it's OK for a 16 year old to be in a relationship with someone in their 30s/40/50s, because they are 'of the age of consent?' REALLY?! A 16 year old is still at school FGS! Age of consent need upping to fucking 20, to stop people a generation or more older going for them because they are 'legal.' 🙄

Some posts on this thread are grim af!

My son is 18 and barely more than a kid. Yes i would judge.

Yes

Come on, that’s a bloody daft generalisation about 18 year olds.

It's not..she said many, not all. Many are exactly like that.

I can read and understand a comment. It’s still a silly generalisation. I mean, what’s the sample?

curious79 · 10/03/2025 12:08

err no because they're BOTH adults and it's none of my business

Find something else to do Judgy McJudgy

BatchCookBabe · 10/03/2025 12:13

@Devonshiregal

  • 17 year olds - can raise kids, live alone and be fully adult.
  • 19 year olds - can’t look after themselves at all.

I have literally never seen anybody say that 17 year olds can raise kids, live alone, and be fully adult.

And yeah, many 19 year olds WILL struggle to live alone/be alone/look after their own place, pay bills or rent or mortgage, and live like a fully functioning adult. They have only just left school then! (And you can't include being at Uni, because that's not real life/real adulting.)

BatchCookBabe · 10/03/2025 12:16

Regretsmorethanafew · 10/03/2025 11:58

Very true. Most are like that even at 18-19. (Still awkward, and very teenager-like with very few adulting life skills.) As I said, many are still at school at 18 FFS! Why are people trying to make out they are capable of buying their own home, starting a flourishing career, and travelling the world on their own, and doing fully functioning adulting at 18-19? Of course they're not. Daft. 🙄

You always get the 'Not My Jimothy's' on threads like this. Their Jimothy rowed alone across the Atlantic when he was 12! 😂

Every 18 year old I know, for a start. And I've known a huge amount of them.
The actually adulting 18 year olds are massively outnumbered by the still kids 18 year olds.
