Would really appreciate people’s opinions on this, thank you

I absolutely would! I would also flip if it was my 18yr old

lifeonmars100 · 09/03/2025 23:01

Not enough context to form an opinion. How did they meet? were either of them aware of the other's age when they got together? They are both adults, and sex is legal from age 16.

Bully for you. My 18 year old boy goes to school everyday in his school uniform.

A school that has uniform for yr13 students? Is it private?

Member869894 · 09/03/2025 23:04

Two consenting adults so I'd be fine with it

scrivette · 09/03/2025 23:05

I wouldn't judge at all.

Kittkats · 09/03/2025 23:05

No.DS19 briefly dated a 26yo. He was the more mature.

Not private. No idea what yr13 means.

BatchCookBabe · 09/03/2025 23:06

Yes, I would judge and I'm in the 'I think it's grim' camp.

I know a woman right now, who's 34, who has one DD aged 4. She has had one man after another, 3 to 4 month relationships a couple of times a year for the 6 years I've known her. (No man ever stays with her though, and no man has put a ring on it!) Not sure who the child's father is. I have never seen him, and she never mentions him, she just puts loads of shit on Facebook about how terrible the men are who fuck off and leave the baby mama (and the baby) and never look back.

She's currently got a 'man' living with her who's 19. Fucking 19! He looks 14, and can't even grow facial hair properly. He's a proper cocklodger. He doesn't work, he just sits under the car port smoking weed, and occasionally walks her dog, and mows her lawn ... He's so awkward and doesn't look you in the eye when you speak to him. It's like he is YEARS off being a proper functioning adult. He can't make adult conversation ... No problem shagging though. Her next door neighbour (joined on/semi detached house) says she hears them at it every other night, through the walls, and she can hear her howling like 'Lassie' from Porkys. 34 and 19. Bleurgh!. 😖

I don't know why the hell a 34 year old woman (who's got a 4 year old daughter) has got this man living there ... (She has only known him 5 months and he has lived there for 4!) It's the third man she's had living with her in the last three years, and I actually genuinely worry about the daughter, to be honest with you, with all these random step dads coming in all smoking pot around her/stopping over a lot, and even living with her. And I wonder where the little girl is when they're shagging and she's howling like a banshee!

I think there is really something off about anyone 25+ dating a fucking teenager. Man OR woman. This 34 y.o. woman I know makes my skin crawl. Even her last boyfriend was only 21! (And also a cocklodger.) I don't think she can get a decent man near her own age (with a decent job) to be honest, so she's settling for what she can get.

What country are you in? We call the final year yr13, used to be Upper Sixth. I don't know what you call it?

WonderingAboutThus · 09/03/2025 23:10

Yes, I would judge. Minimum age for 26 is 20. The kids are kinda irrelevant though.

she might be in Scotland as its 6th yr up here

AnotherSlicePlease · 09/03/2025 23:10

Casually sleeping with ? so not a stable relationship just a friend with benefits ? And she has kids? Eurghh.

Christwosheds · 09/03/2025 23:11

DearDenimEagle · 09/03/2025 22:40

Nope. I was 17 and dated guys in their mid 20s . When I was 18 I moved in with a 24 yr old, married at 19 , mother at 20 Divorced 20 years later. My friend, male, aged 20, married a divorcee (with children) aged 30 and they’re still together 30 years on. My 29 yr old grandfather married my 16 yr old grandmother…she chased him for his money, and he adored her all his life. Died in his mid 90s. What people do is up to them once they are adults.

I agree with this. Obviously not if anyone is being exploited or coerced, but I know so many much larger age gap relationships that have been really happy, and I met my own DH when he was 22 (I am 8 years older). Once people are adults then I think it’s more down to the individual temperaments than the gap itself, whether it’s a good thing or not.
My friend’s mum married her Dad when she was 20 and he was 60 !! Happy marriage, two lovely children.

Yes, I wondered. Do you have uniforms right up until the 6th year in Scotland?

Purplebeach · 09/03/2025 23:13

soupyspoon · 09/03/2025 22:53

Is the age of consent now for those over 20?

A Teenager is just someone who has an age with the number ending in 'teen'. What does that mean in actual fact?

Is someone who is 20 suddenly very very different to someone who is 19?

He's an adult, 2 years over the age of consent, as long as she hasnt been his teacher or lecturer or something then its for them to decide.

So you think the age gap is fine as long as the person is 16 or over? I think during our teens we change and grow so much, after about 20 or 21 we are more constant and less impressionable.

MumWifeOther · 09/03/2025 23:13

Yes.

I wore uniform in 6th form (not private, England). AFAIK, they still do.

CraneBeak · 09/03/2025 23:14

Massively.

2021x · 09/03/2025 23:15

Legally nothing is wrong.

Judgment no, if its just casual hook up on a Saturday then who cares, I don't even think I would care if the sexes where switched. Having sex with someone a bit more experienced than you can be a good thing.

However, he is more at risk because of the maturity difference for coercive and controlling behaviour. For example; if there is more to it like she is preventing him from choosing to live his life, or she taking advantage of his naivety by not using protection when they have sex and therefore risking pregnancy, and if she is preventing him from seeing his family/friends because he has to spend time with her/her kids then that would be a cause for concern.

ByMerryKoala · 09/03/2025 23:15

Yes. So grim.

You sound like a hilarious neighbour - and how on earth do you find time to manage your own life when you fill your time judging hers?

The boys school in our area (Essex) wears uniform in 6th form. The girls schools don't wierdly.

PointsSouth · 09/03/2025 23:17

No, I wouldn’t because it’s none of my fucking business.

ChellyT · 09/03/2025 23:18

Yes, based on the info YES

Mother of two or not, reverse the genders I would still say YES

There is a social power imbalance of 8 years on this earth.
Has the 18yo completed their schooling?
Are they both employed?
Are they both financially independent?
Is it just a fling or are we declaring undying love?
Hang on, is the 18yo the father of the two children?

I would not say a word to either of them but I would be judging

That's funny! I'm just curious because I've never come across post 16 uniform before, but I don't want to derail the thread.
