He didn’t go to Tesco?

I’ve been ill with the flu for the past few days and am in the worst of it, asked DH if he could pop to the shops and get some dinner in, and food for dc over the weekend, as we have nothing in and I thought he would stop at Tesco on his way home from work.

He decided to go to our village newsagents which sells no fresh food and spent 50 FUCKING QUID on crap. He got unbranded frozen ready meals which no one in our house would touch with a barge pole. The rest went on crisps / chocolate / ice cream / pot noodles. He didn’t even get bread (which they actually sell). Because i’ve not been happy about this he’s now gone in a mood and said he’s not bothering again. AIBU to be psised off he didn’t go to tesco and get real food the kids actually eat and not just chocolate and crisps. And now he’s moaning saying he didn’t know he wasn’t ‘allowed’ to go to the village shop and that i should have told him. I shouldn’t fucking have to tell people to use their brain.

Because she was sick and supposedly has another fully functioning adult in the home who can shop online for adequate food for a few days? Oh wait, that’s the whole point of the thread 🙄

I mean, why didn't she do one sufficient shop in the first place, to avoid these kind of unnecessary dramas

You’re either a huge misogynist or being deliberately obtuse. God forbid something dire happens to wives like the op, those poor kids will be living on ready meals and crisps for life because these dim men don’t know how to shop. At least they won’t get judged for it like a single mum would though.

Haha! So what’s his purpose then?

Maggiethecat · 10/03/2025 12:36

Wifey should have sufficient foresight and plan for every eventuality or put up with whatever shit he produces 🙄

Er no, when i, or my dh shop, we make sure we've got enough for the week, no big drama

purplecorkheart · 10/03/2025 15:08

He knew what he was doing. If he went to Tesco and got proper food he knows that the would also have to prepare it and cook it and clean up after it. By going to the local shop all he has to do is pop it in the microwave and also make you look unreasonable.

He knows that next time you will find a different solution than him.

Well the ‘drama’ here is that when the OP’s husband was asked to make sure there was food in for the next few days, he failed miserably at it. It doesn’t matter that you get food in for the entire week, if that’s what works for your circumstance then well done for you. It’s completely irrelevant to the point. Even if it was a weekly shop, it reads like the OP’s husband wouldn’t manage that.

Do you not eat things that don't last a full week, then? Nothing wrong in that if so, but OPs household have bread and fresh milk.

Comefromaway · 10/03/2025 16:16

I for one would not have enough room in my fridge to store a week's worth of bread and milk etc. Also I hate the texture of bread after it has been kept in the fridge.

My dh thinks the opposite, just buy enough food to begin with

Buy enough food for what?

Is there a law stating that shopping should be done once a week then?

No law.
Just sensible

But there’s no law on not having any of that either

Should have just ordered an online shop. You must know it's not his forte.
I wouldn't have been happy but I wouldn't have expected any better. Could do an online shop in the time you have spent posting this 😁

What a low bar you have.

Do you think this thread is really directing anyone to TESCO who already doesn’t shop there?

Still free advertising.😁

user1471538283 · 10/03/2025 18:52

I would be furious! He knows just like any grown up that getting groceries in means getting stuff for meals that is half decent with maybe a bit of chocolate. My DF knew and my bf and my DS know how to shop for groceries. He also knows like them that you go to a proper shop not a newsagents.

The bar is so low that some of you think she should have to tell him to go to Tesco's. It's not like sourcing very rare ingredients from a specific shop. It's decent food for meals for his family and himself from a large grocery chain.

Why is it sensible to shop every seven days? Why not shop twice a week? Or around every four days? Or every eight days?

How about a shout out to SAINSBURY’S, LIDL, ASDA, ALDI

Have we forgotten anyone in helping to drive up sales?

What a low bar you have.

Why is my bar low? I'm not the one moaning about a dick of a husband incapable of food Shopping.
My point was she knows he's a fucking useless dick.
He's not my husband and I am organised enough to have an Ocado delivery every week.

My other point was she was well enough to to sit moaning on the internet so why not just fire out an online shop as she was obviously well enough to do that because she knows her DH wouldn't. It's not like she's just met him is it. She knows he's a fucktard. My bar isn't low as I'm not married to said fucktard or sat whining about his lack of effort/capacity.

OP has already explained that they live rurally so options are limited, there were no slots the next day and Whoosh don't cover her area.

It doesn't sound like an online shop that day was an option.

Itsoneofthose · 10/03/2025 22:33

I’m in disbelief that this thread is still going!

JHound · 10/03/2025 22:35

Why do I hear stories like this SO OFTEN.

Men being so useless at actually being able to buy appropriate groceries for a household. I hear this constantly!

JHound · 10/03/2025 22:36

Moonnstars · 07/03/2025 20:33

Could you not do an online shop?

She has a partner. And is sick. Why can she not rely on her partner not to be an idiot?
