beavers being rereleased in the uk - why? They are territorial animals and don’t really have a place in our carefully balanced ecosystem.

Perfect Andrew Tate deterrent- he ain’t ever coming back to a country over run with angry beavers 👍

Long live the beavers. We have already 'played God' in our thoughtless shortsighted destruction of habitats and building near flood plains.

You know how new estates are often named after the lovely bit of countryside they've concreted over? I had to bite my tongue when a friend sent their change of address to 'Watermeadow Close'... not sure they'd thought it through.Confused

And what about the beaver on child violence risks?

That is one of the funniest posts I have ever read on mumsnet… 🤣

I was involved in the reintroduction of sea eagles in Scotland in the time back when. It’s only just occurred to me that we didn’t get them to sign a form to agree not to help themselves to weans. I wonder how many they got? Somebody should probably check on that.

I saw a sea eagle! Bad omen, I had to walk back to the car via a poorly signposted bog without gaiters. Clearly the fault of eagle hugging beaverists like yourself.

There's a small estate near my mum that was basically built in an area with lots of ponds and the houses frequently get flooded/suffer from serious damp. The roads are called 'Mallard Close', 'Moorhen Close' etc etc. I am amazed that anyone ever buys houses there.

Fabulously prescient I expect.

They're beavers, wild animals, they don't have 'intentions'. They're not asking for your daughter's hand.....

Oh, I was looking forward to their manifesto.

You're thinking of specially trained Russian military Beavers.

Ah, yes, starting in Great Yarmouth with the aim of then heading for the East Anglian wetlands, reversing the draining of the Fens and destroying the prosperity of Our Country.

What do you mean, that was Bulgarians, not Beavers? That’s what they want you to think.

Edited

As long as they don't expect the native apex predator fish of the Fens to tell them their name.

Op, come back! I need to hear your thoughts on the Wild Boar that are currently roaming Dartmoor and have already begun attacking people. Leave nothing out.

If you lot have scared my favourite troll away I'll be mad!

We've got wild boar on our land. And coypu. Best avoid Normandy, OP 😂

FumingTRex · 07/03/2025 18:57

I think you are misunderstanding how river catchments work, the idea is the beavers are located in upland areas upstream of homes, and when it rains heavily their dams will slow the rate at which the water moves through the catchment, so you wont get such high peak flows in the river. The Beavers wont be in towns making dams.

Are you proposing beavers live only in beaver ghettos away from towns? I feel that is problematic.

GarlicStyle · 07/03/2025 22:16

It appears OP has good reason to suspect beavers of making plans to assert dominion over the British landscape ...

Amazing news for you - you have free will! Don’t read things you don’t want to, go and be free! Like a released beaver…

It's too late, I read the OP and now I can't unread it! I didn't rtft but just the OP was enough!

To be fair I don’t see beavers oozing stuff from their arses into ice cream and yogurt as one of the strongest arguments for their re-introduction

No. As I said, it was just an aside. I don't think many people know that they are sometimes eating it. I don't think many people will want to know that they are eating it, either.

Aw I don't think OP is coming back 😔

Maybe she's gone "away for a little rest" again. Or has remembered to take her meds......

Probably just waiting for their turn to be 're-released'...

Wbeezer · 08/03/2025 21:39

We actually have wild beavers that introduced themselves to our local river, haven't caused any flooding yet. I've only seen gnawed branches, very jealous of those who have seen baby beavers but I'm not up early enough for that!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 07/03/2025 17:00

Corrected that for you

I can tell you the beavers intentions.
Eat.
Shit
Make dams
Make more beavers
World domination and the end of life as we know it
The end

😆

Yeah, I don't think she will be back on this thread. Sad Shame because she was a good laugh tbh, and quite entertaining!

Yep, reminds me of MN a few years ago when humour was more prevalent.

WestwardHo1 · 09/03/2025 16:35

There was a programme on about beavers in Yorkshire this afternoon. I hope you enjoyed it OP.
