beavers being rereleased in the uk - why? They are territorial animals and don’t really have a place in our carefully balanced ecosystem.

You can’t guess what the beavers intentions are. The beavers might not create dams like you would like them to create and might create dams specifically to retake land that isn’t theirs anymore.

What are they called? Putin?

Beavers are not proven to create wetland where you want it. Beavers might decide to make the site of your home into their wetland and you could wake up day after day and beavers have rerouted water over your property and garden. And when you try and stop it coming from one way then you might get that dam and bust it but the next morning another set of beavers might create a wetland from another direction.

I live up a five hundred foot hill. I'm pretty sure that beavers aren't going to decide to make that into a wetland. If they do, then the rest of you had better start rowing...

Or the wolves swimming the Channel?

Their claws keep puncturing the dinghies so they never make it more than two metres from shore. If wolves ever discover pedalos we're fucked.

My Friday night G&T is now all over the screen !!!🤣

FuzzyPuffling · 07/03/2025 18:58

Ooh yes, I forgot about them. They were hambushing innocent people on the road.

Rumour was they were porking about in the woods

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 07/03/2025 19:23

TBH I probably stand more chance of guessing the intentions of a beaver than either Putin or Trump.

Efrogwraig · 07/03/2025 19:24

Actually, you don't want to understand. You've made up your mind & don't like the explanations being given.

'Violent' 🤣
Am picturing a bunch of pissed beavers squaring up to some bouncers outside a Wetherspoons.

They’re back, and this time they’re out for revenge. Beavers 2.0 !!

It's not the wolves you need to worry about...

They have been reintroducing Beavers into the wild for years, why are you starting this argument now?

there are also places that are reintroducing lynx’s into the wild do you have an issue with this as well?

Of course s/he does! They are upsetting a carefully balanced ecosystem of a Tesco car park!

Nah, just ham actors playing a part...

Pbs Nature Beaver GIF by Nature on PBS

Violent beavers 🦫, coming over here, taking our women, breeding like rabbits. It will come to no good.

DeffoNeedANameChange · 07/03/2025 19:36

I saw that our local river has been earmarked for beaver re-release, but we've already got beavers anyway. Unfortunately there has already been one casualty though - one beaver was killed on the road. Should never have introduced bloody humans into the area.

PieCorner · 07/03/2025 19:38

"You can’t guess what the beavers intentions are."

Sinister beavers, huh? I'm in.

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 07/03/2025 19:40

There is nothing worse than minding your own business and then being attacked by a big hairy beaver. I'm sick of it!!

Poor thing. If beavers were capable of cunning plans they'd be felling trees across roads rather than industriously damming running water.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 07/03/2025 18:05

But there are already some beavers in the wild in the UK. The reason you might not be aware of this is that they don't go around eating children or causing flooding so don't make the news much. They weren't hunted to extinction because they damaged the environment but because people ate them and used their pelts as well. That, alongside manmade interference in their habitats, jeopardised their survival. Just as an aside, castoreum (anal gland secretion) was, and still is, used in perfume and also in foodstuffs. It's used by companies like Yoplait, Ben and Jerry's and Haribo in the States to replicate raspberry aand vanilla flavours.

To be fair I don’t see beavers oozing stuff from their arses into ice cream and yogurt as one of the strongest arguments for their re-introduction

Not me skipping to the end page just to see where this batshit post ended up 🤣 Was not disappointed

Jaehee · 07/03/2025 19:50

It's terrifying. Almost as terrifying as those 2-tonne beasts that charge up and down the streets all day and all night long.

RaininSummer · 07/03/2025 19:51

Long live the beavers. We have already 'played God' in our thoughtless shortsighted destruction of habitats and building near flood plains.

DontStopMe · 07/03/2025 19:52

Absolutely - thank you everyone for a most enjoyable thread on a Friday evening.

The world would be a safer place if beavers were in charge of Russia & the USA.

As hilarious as this thread has been. I really hope op is just yanking our chain over this. Living with this level of paranoia can't be nice.
