Can we get a disagree button?

Can we get a disagree or dislike button?
We are all adults and i'm tired of 'laughing' at posts i disagree with.

This would be better in the Site Stuff topic.

Also, I hadn't associated the laughing emoji with disagreement. A disagree button would definitely allow you to be clear in your messaging.

NippyNinjaCrab · 07/03/2025 12:32

Why would you laugh at a post you disagree with? A thumbs down would be a good idea though.

hairyunicorn · 07/03/2025 12:32

@HappiestSleeping You're correct, i should have put this in 'Site Stuff' but don't think i can edit it now.

You’re using the laugh emoji to disagree? How unpleasant are you.

If you disagree, have the manners to do so on the actual thread, with your reasons for the disagreement.

EdithStourton · 07/03/2025 12:39

I laugh at posts I find funny.
If I really disagree, I either say so, or decide not to get into fisticuffs today and scroll on.

lnks · 07/03/2025 12:39

I’ve received the laugh emoji when talking about my disability. You’re not one of those are you?

desperatedaysareover · 07/03/2025 12:48

People are 😆ing to be negative? God this is terrible news I thought I was funny AF

What would be the purpose, I can’t think what it would add in an already fairly combative community. The OP won’t see it and there’s no shortage of posters fully ready to throw down/ tell you you’re talking shite and they think you’re a prick. Look at S&B and a gentle wee post like ‘Here’s another green dress you might like’ and some charmer posts to say it’s absolutely vile and makes them physically sick or whatever.

I reckon if I’m moved to pointedly disagree, as opposed to just offer an alternative POV, I’d also want the OP to know why (like there’s an inaccuracy or dangerous advice or something). So why not just post?

I am really unpleasant 😂
TBH i didn't think it was that serious. I also spread the love with 'agree' and 'love' buttons all the time, and make more than enough posts either agreeing or disagreeing with the posts.

I just think a 'disagree' button would be useful

If you're tired of laughing at posts you disagree with then just stop it.
If you cant be bothered to type some words to disagree coherently then everyone would be better off without your contributions, wouldn't they?

hmmm... i'm unsure why you think i don't also make posts. I have already said i'm more than happy to reply to threads i both agree and disagree with.

if you can't be bothered to read the posts you reply to... well...

I wasn’t implying you don’t make posts, my response was in relation to (mis)using the reaction buttons which is what the thread is about.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 07/03/2025 13:17

What a terrible idea

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 07/03/2025 13:19

There was a long thread about this and people can't even handle the laughing emoji. They would properly melt down if somebody had the temerity to DISAGREE with them.

BourbonsAreOverated · 07/03/2025 13:19

I have to disagree Wink

i think it will encourage pile ons and just isn’t very nice. If you need to disagree make the point or move on.

I left a laugh on your post because the first sentence was funny. Just to clarify 😏

Redpeach · 07/03/2025 13:21

The laughing emoji is often used by unkind people to disparage, i hate it, and think it looks a bit stupid

Glitchymn1 · 07/03/2025 13:22

God no. I don’t want all those notifications.

I’ve never used the laugh emoji as a way to disagree, is that what others use it for in the absence of a disagree option? I did not know this. I’ve only used it as a way of telling the poster their post is funny and made me laugh.

honeylulu · 07/03/2025 13:24

The laughing emoji is surely to show you appreciated a funny post! I didn't think it was meant to be used in a derisory way.

I agree though that a "thumbs down" option for disagreement could be useful, particularly if you can't be arsed to quote and reply.

Tbh in some ways I'd rather have an honest 'disagree' reaction than people misusing that horrible gurning laugh emoji. Better to have neither and encourage proper responses.

I mostly use the app, on which I can neither make nor see 'reactions' and I'm darned if I can see how they are in any way an enhancement to the site.

ScottBakula · 07/03/2025 13:26

Why on earth would you use the laughing emoji to disagree with someone.

I wouldn't want a disagree emoji, if you disagree with me let me know why and I can explain why I think / feel that way or we can just agree that we have different options, you know, like grown ups

ItShouldntHappenToMeYet · 07/03/2025 13:29

Actually, coulx we have a vehemently disagree button too? That way, some PPs could save themselves the bother of writing something vitrolic/nasty/rude.
The laughing emoni is pointless on all levels and clearly not being used appropriately - is it for funny ha-ha, or a sarcastic funny? Perhaps a second one would help clatify pp meaning!
