Is currently getting her arse handed to her by Judge Rinder on Good Morning Britain...

She is not coming across well.

I remember posting on here in a mildly critical way about the incessant coverage of Tom and daughter when it was all going on. I said perhaps BBC could do some other stories of people who were doing so much for the NHS, not just him.
I got my arse handed to me on a plate for daring to question CaptTom!
I bet those posters feel stupid now. Probably not, they'll just rewrite what they said

They will be the ones calling for this woman to be hung drawn and quartered for making money from Covid (like so many others)

I had to turn over as it was uncomfortable viewing but also she is a total charlatan so glad she got the roasting. She has to live with tarnished reputation forever so that's her commence. I have to say I didn't get the whole captain Tom thing but that's a different story.

the Capt Tom thing took off because there wasn't much else happening during Covid in terms of feel-good stories, and because the beneficiary was the saintly NHS charities (not the NHS, but the charities who don't do healthcare, they provide tea bags and nice seats and that sort of thing). And because he - Capt Tom - was very old and an ex-serviceman and kinda sweet.

Capt Tom wouldn't get that sort of financial support from the public today.

A minor point - which I've raised before!

An army officer below the rank of major cannot continue to use their title in civilian life. Military etiquette and regulations make it very clear that "Captain Tom" should never be referred to as "Captain" anything because a captain is a junior officer!

All part of the branding campaign I suppose.

Good point. I distinctly remember threads on here at the time where several mumsnetters would jump down anyone’s throat that dared to write his name without the Captain prefix.

A bit like the vilification of anyone who didn’t go out and clap for the NHS. It was all bonkers.

BustingBaoBun · 07/03/2025 12:29

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 07/03/2025 12:14

You're right, they will. They're the same posters who clapped liked demented seals for months on end.

It's terrifying actually, how easily led so many adults are and how happy they are to be swept along into nonsense. Also, how aggressive they are with anybody who won't follow. I think this is why cults must be so successful, pure brainwashing.

It's like Brexit. I know acquaintances who voted to leave. 100% they did. They were crowing about it the next day
Now they say they voted to Remain! Like fuck you did 😅

I've just read an article online that mentions the ill fated spa. I'd forgotten about that, which apparently was CTM's last wish on his death bed. But considering his last wish was also for Hannah to pocket the profits from the book I'm beginning to think, to misquote Rodney from OFAH, Tom "didn't half have a lot to say on his deathbed".

He was quite "chatty" considering he was critical all this last wishes for his daughters well being what a gem 🙄

yep, I won't hear a bad word about Hitler or Pol Pot.

What about Mussolini ? I'm sure he was just a big softie.

Mightymoog · 07/03/2025 09:07

Why do people tink he was ignoant of the con just because he was old?
Odious man

I dont know enough about him to know if he was 'odious' or not, but yes, if Hannah is telling the truth and he wanted the money tpo go to her, he was probably in on the whole grift. Also, so was her husband. he wasnt a meek little innocent, he was well aware of what was going on, and was also implicated, but stupidly, Hannah has decided she is also the public face of their 'redemption' which is not likely to happen.

There was an elderly Indian man doing laps of his garden during lockdown. Funnily enough he didn't get half the attention 🙄

Yes. He was odious. His comments about his sex life with his first wife were beyond the pale and showed very clearly who and what he was.

I can't remember who asked, but it was on Page 1 of the thread - but yes, her house is still for sale:

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/156966395#/?channel=RES_BUY

Surrounded by horrible new build estates as well, where there once would have been green fields.

crockofshite · 07/03/2025 12:46

wow, no shame from her whatsoever.

NoTouch · 07/03/2025 12:47

Never been a Judge Rinder fan, and don't watch GMB often so didn't even know he was on it now. Just watched this part on catchup and OMG he was good!

She couldn't defend, explain or tell the truth about a single one of his direct and clearly worded questions. Even trying to pass the blame onto her dad by saying she never signed the deal (when she had). Horrible woman. Why she thinks anyone would want to buy that book is a mystery.

AquaLeader · 07/03/2025 12:48

Tom Moore and daughter and her family went to Barbados in December 2020. The holiday was paid for by British Airways.

This is when elderly people across the nation were desperately isolating and waiting for their Covid vaccines. We were all asked to isolate and 'save the NHS'.

Piers Morgan labelled anyone critical of the Moore family as 'disgusting vermin'.

I love Rob Rinder, he's awesome.

She should have known better than to go on and be interviewed by him, he's a top barrister used to dealing with war criminals. "How did a trip to a jacuzzi fit into the overall Captain Tom experience?" 😂

And her book is self-published. Any of us could do that.

Oh yes!! This. About 90% of the vociferous leave voters I know have mysteriously rewritten their own history.

QuoteOn my first night, sitting in the hotel bar, I met a pretty Anglo-Indian lady who reminded me of the lovely Sylvia.

Her husband, she told me, was a prisoner of the Japanese and she'd gone to Kashmir to wait for news of him. We started chatting and became friendly. I hadn't expected to find romance in the mountains, but there it was

Trying to find the quote re his wife but here he's bragging about shagging a married woman whose husband was a pow at the time.
Lovely fella

Re. the self-publishing - maybe no publishing house would touch it? Or at least a respectable one. The sub-title would have had to been along
the lines : “how I ripped off a charity and duped a lot of gullibles but none of it was my fault”.
