By 45p a week. What will you be spending your extra 45p on?

I'll spend it on my child. That's what child benefit is for. A drop in the ocean, but a drop nonetheless. Child benefit was / is meant to improve the lives of children not mothers.

🙄 it's not intended to be only spent directly in the child.

Spending it on rent, council tax and utilities is spending it on the kids, by keeping a roof over their head.

Papadonut · 06/03/2025 22:30

Tattoo though that might get me a dot.

TheHateIsNotGood · 06/03/2025 22:34

Whatever 'Mother's Little Helper' I can find; hard since Gin got so expensive and Valium isn't dished out so readily anymore.

Maybe we should ask those in receipt of Carers Allowance what gets them by in their interminable life stasis?

I suggest Cannabis as the possible go to 'drug' for the many strata of humanity who find their lives devalued through giving birth, being born and often through just being female.....

socialdilemmawhattodo · 06/03/2025 22:37

I'm so dull - just coming on here to say most of a single can of baked beans. Lucky DC loves them, but they do eat the whole can. Surely it has to last the week?

I'll be celebrating with my Mum who has just turned 80 so now gets the 25p a week extra in her pension, she can now turn the heating on for 3 minutes a day.

DH will get the 25p this year too. I’m sure we’ll have fun deciding what to spend it on!

BlwyddynNewydd · 06/03/2025 22:40

Mine can go towards the 27% increase in water rates.

Well it looks good in the papers eh?
So we can all sit back and feel smug about them cutting funds for the disabled.

!! You got me exited o
Up grading the air raid shelter with 45.. Can't even buy chocolate like that

DorothyStorm · 06/03/2025 22:44

Crowcrowcrow · 06/03/2025 22:03

At least it’s going up, a couple of years ago it didn’t.
Other European countries don’t increase their rates every year just look at Ireland.

Whats the rate in ireland?

SassK · 06/03/2025 22:48

I'm going to get one of these plasma flat screen TV's.

Brainstorm23 · 06/03/2025 22:48

Absolutely nothing as I can't claim child benefit.

coxesorangepippin · 06/03/2025 22:49

Nails

Whatthebarnacles · 06/03/2025 22:53

A physical newspaper so that:

  1. I can keep reading about the wonderful shit the government continue to do,

  2. I can keep people at the paper companies in a job,

  3. I can pop it in a pile ready to burn and heat my home come winter.

Lucky sods aren't we 👌

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/03/2025 22:54

0ctavia · 06/03/2025 20:08

A widescreen TV.

I was going to say a luxury holiday and new car but I bought these with the £14 child mainetenance I got last year.

Don't lie - everybody knows that anyone on benefits gets a free car and a five bedroomed house with garage, giant trampoline and wooden decking to put the 40,000 gallon jacuzzi on.

Admit it, you've spunked it on enough botox to paralyse 44% of the population on Newbury and 30 pints of filler like everybody else will.

Franjipanl8r · 06/03/2025 22:59

You can’t even fart without it costing money nowadays, I’ve probably spent 45p just typing this post somehow.

Babyghirl · 06/03/2025 23:04

Mine goes in to a bank account for my 2yo for when she's 18 so she will have a few extra pound to spend coming then.

WhatFreshHellisThese · 06/03/2025 23:20

Crack and sex toys

It's actually crazy the amount of stuff we have to pay for. I was explaining it all to my 10 year old. There are things you don't even think of as things that you have to pay for.

mediumdicketh · 07/03/2025 17:12

I was thinking of buying a buspass

mediumdicketh · 07/03/2025 17:14

Actually an extra 30p energy drink from pound land too mad about those suckerz

PandaTime · 07/03/2025 17:29

I'm going to give up my job and live on benefits.

LBFseBrom · 07/03/2025 17:29

Jc2001 · 06/03/2025 20:03

Beer and fags

I used to say that :-). Many years ago, my only child is 46 this year but I remember saying it breezily to someone. Unfortunately they believed me....some people really do take things literally. I can imagine that even now they remember I said that. Oh well, never mind.

The child benefit, which everyone with a child received back then, regardless of other income, was extremely useful and over the years it gradually went up.

I agree, its like all these posts on MN where the new GF posts things like

“ My new partner is a Hero Amongst Men, he gives his ex £25 / week for his two kids, theres no way that food for a 2 year old and a 5 year old costs that much”.

MyLimeGuide · 07/03/2025 17:31

Wagon wheels.
