A bit lighthearted but I am trying to declutter the kitchen worktops. I currently have a bread bin, on the worktop but I want rid.
If you don't have a bread bin where do you put the bread?

YABU - keep the bread bin on the worktop
YANBU - get rid they went with the ark. Bread is.....

In our breadbin. I don't love it but couldn't cope with the crumbs in our (already overflowing) cupboards

insomniacalways · 06/03/2025 10:33

We have an island with big deep drawers all along - it is in the bottom one of those with the rolls , pitta , wraps etc - why won't my kids just eat one kind of "bread".

I'm not an expert but I was told off by DH's Environmental Health pal for keeping bread in the fridge. Something about the humidity levels causing mould.

How long are you keeping it? We use a loaf in 2-3 days, and keep it in the fridge because we have a very warm kitchen and it goes mouldy if left out.

Burntt · 06/03/2025 12:23

I keep mine in the big cooking pot that lives on the hob as no room in the cupboards

Bbq1 · 06/03/2025 12:25

In a plastic tupperware box that holds an upright loaf. It sits in the cupboard.

SofaSpuds · 06/03/2025 12:26

In the food press with other dried goods.
Don't keep your bread in the fridge!

hereismydog · 06/03/2025 12:26

Hidden away in a cupboard, same as anything else that might be edible.

In the dedicated bread drawer in the big larder cupboard. I love it. Bread drawer also houses the potatoes.
Just below is the Baking Drawer (double width) where all the flour sugar cake cases, little bitty pots of stuff etc all live. Glorious.

Pantry. Or food room as DS calls it as Pantry sounds too stately home to him 😂

irregularegular · 06/03/2025 12:31

We banished the bread bin after we redid the kitchen. It is just in a cupboard. In a bag. It has its own kind of tray. Bread that isn't currently open is in the freezer.

Ferrazzuoli · 06/03/2025 12:32

Fridge

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/03/2025 12:33

Bread bin for what we are currently eating.
Freezer for the rest to be defrosted before the current loaf runs out.

Anyotherdude · 06/03/2025 12:36

On the sideboard in the dining room, next to the toaster!

Hankunamatata · 06/03/2025 12:36

Freezer and bread bin

LindaLeggings · 06/03/2025 12:36

In the bread drawer.

valder · 06/03/2025 12:40

Freezer, like others. Take out what I need for that day only. I make my own wholemeal seeded bread (very healthy ha ha) and cut the loaves into four and freeze/defrost each chunk as needed.

I do have croissants (bought) and home made scones in freezer too for unexpected visitors! Only takes a minute to defrost in mw.

Now this might put people off, or surprise them, but my bread bin is actually a food scrap tiny counter top bin with lid (supposed to be for the big compost bin 😊). It has air vents and all sorts and is great for storing bread. I think I got it in the Range. It's small but great for a day or two storage. No mould or anything.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 06/03/2025 12:57

In the freezer. Otherwise we'd be chucking half of every loaf away.

SpunkyKoala · 06/03/2025 12:58

I don’t have any - reading about all this bread makes me want some though

xILikeJamx · 06/03/2025 12:58

In the cupboard above the toaster and kettle, along with teabags, coffee, sugar, biscuits, mugs, etc

Tereseta · 06/03/2025 12:59

On top of the toaster in original packaging

TwoRobins · 06/03/2025 13:29

In the fridge.

Giggorata · 06/03/2025 14:22

In their original packages in this antique.

(When we sell our cottage, it will be demoted to dog biscuits, in favour of the posh modern one)

When we had firework parties when the kids were small we used to keep the fireworks in one of those so they wouldn't get set off by stray sparks.

AliasGrape · 06/03/2025 14:34

Ours tends to be kept on top of or just next to the bread bin 🙄

The bread bin is full of assorted boxes of different variety/ flavour teabags, because obviously. Plus usually have some other kind of baked good DH has hunter gathered from the co-op in there, malt loaf and scotch pancakes currently.

I don't actually know how long it takes us to go through a loaf. Probably 5 days.
There are definitely weeks when mould sets in before it's used.

Maybe we should go back to keeping it in the freezer.
