A bit lighthearted but I am trying to declutter the kitchen worktops. I currently have a bread bin, on the worktop but I want rid.
If you don't have a bread bin where do you put the bread?

YABU - keep the bread bin on the worktop
YANBU - get rid they went with the ark. Bread is.....

Decision made, I'm going to reorganise the cupboards and try having it in beside the tea & coffee.
Give it a trial run before I ditch the bread bin

I often use half the fresh loaf and then freeze the rest to continue using it out of the freezer; that works pretty well for us. We usually have two loaves on the go, brown/seeded and white, and there's only the two of us. Plus I rarely eat bread so it takes a while to get through a loaf.

They're a waste of space, if the kitchen is small.
I use the kitchen press/cupboard, a loaf rarely lasts 24 hours, family of 4.

We don’t have a bread bin, keep all our bread and rolls in the freezer and defrost as required.

Mostly in the teenager. 🙄

We have a breadbox like this with two front opening doors so I can keep the breadknife on top. It has see through windows so we can see what's in there so things don't get forgotten.

I do keep the bread in a plastic bag though otherwise it dries out too quickly.

We have the same one. I need the clear doors or I'd forget about stuff in there. I bought the bread bin off the back of a previous thread about bread bins on MN...

I have a wire basket thing that slides onto the bottom shelf of my top cabinets so hangs above the worktop but frees up space on the worktop of that makes sense

In a bread bin in the cupboard.

Yes we have the same. Bread bin in the cupboard. Although mainly contains wraps!

Printedword · 07/03/2025 08:54

Bread bin, but the space it takes up annoys me. We have one of those Joseph ones which is a box with a lid that doubles as a bread board. Its predecessor was a terracotta crock pot. We have owned just the 2 bread bins in 25 years.

Those of you keeping bread in the freezer - how does that work with loaves that aren't sliced?

DilemmaDelilah · 07/03/2025 08:58

Occasionally in the bread bin. Usually ON the bread bin.

AnotherHappyCamper · 07/03/2025 09:08

@Printedword it only works with sliced bread IME; I only ever freeze our sandwich bread. Whole loaves are eaten pretty quickly because we bake those ourselves and I am a proper piggy when it comes to freshly baked bread. I rarely eat supermarket bread and DH usually has porridge for breakfast so it takes ages to get through a loaf.

You could, of course, slice it before you freeze!

Sounds nice. We used to have a bakery stall on the market that I liked. I've never found any as good since he retired. Rarely buy sliced bread.

AnotherHappyCamper · 07/03/2025 09:22

Yes a properly delicious loaf is hard to find! I am still looking for a good sandwich bread recipe so we have to get supermarket bread for easy sandwiches.
