A bit lighthearted but I am trying to declutter the kitchen worktops. I currently have a bread bin, on the worktop but I want rid.
If you don't have a bread bin where do you put the bread?

YABU - keep the bread bin on the worktop
YANBU - get rid they went with the ark. Bread is.....

In a bread bin in the utility room.

pearbottomjeans · 06/03/2025 06:03

In a basket in a cupboard in the island, along with toaster. New since we got new kitchen - more space/cupboards meaning we have space to put the toaster away each time. Really not as annoying as I’d imagined - clear work top is worth getting toaster out a few times a day (toast loving kids!).

Bread gets cut into daily quantities and put in the freezer as soon as it’s bought. A minute in the microwave brings it back to life.

Except for a day’s worth which goes on my A4-sized bread board/heat mat (with crumb catcher) on the kitchen table.

in the bread bin
when it gets to use by date, put in freezer

ElsaSnow · 06/03/2025 07:05

In the bread bin in a deep drawer so it's not on the surfaces.

InMySpareTime · 06/03/2025 07:23

In a basket hanging from the wall unit in the corner:

Where is your bread?

In a bread bin on the counter. Very small kitchen with not enough cupboard space and a bread obsessed cat that would chew through a bread packet to get to it. We used to have a top opening bread bin but the cat learned how to open it, so now we have a magnetic front opening one that has a flat top that I can keep the cereal containers on

In the cupboard.

Everytime I see this thread title I read it into myself as “WHERE is your bread” in the tone of those 80s adverts - do you know where your kids are?!

sanityisamyth · 06/03/2025 07:32

In my bread bin or in my 11 year old.

PorkHollywood · 06/03/2025 07:32

In the cupboard. We go through a loaf every 2-3 days here.

cerebuswannabe · 06/03/2025 07:33

In a bread bin on top of my fridge.

BeaAndBen · 06/03/2025 07:35

In a deep drawer under the toaster - there’s a lot of it. Wraps, pittas, sourdough, bagels, sliced white.

sammyspoon · 06/03/2025 07:43

In the breakfast drawer

Bottom shelf of the wall cupboard above the worktop where the toaster and kettle sit. It's just in the bag it came in and lives with all the other bready type stuff and the jars for tea bags/coffe/sugar

Ditto for me.

Lobsterteapot · 06/03/2025 07:52

DS no allergies = stylish nigella breadbin on countertop
DH is gluten free = vacuum bread container in cupboard
I’m diabetic so there is no bread 🍞

LittleGreenDragons · 06/03/2025 08:14

We are a tall family so all our cupboards are high up. This leaves plenty of space between the cupboards and work top to have a full length shelf where our tea/sugar, cereals, bread etc live. I'm going to miss that shelf when I move 😥

jeaux90 · 06/03/2025 08:19

Fridge, it lasts for ages in there.

SpeedyBulletTrain · 06/03/2025 08:48

Our bread lives in a bread bag on top of the bread bin 🙃 It never seems to make its way in 😅

Actually just looked inside my bread bin. No bread but I did find some out of date meds, a ping pong ball, a drumstick lolly, a pompom, a plaster and a thomas the tank engine badge 😂

Mostly in the teenager. 🙄

We have a breadbox like this with two front opening doors so I can keep the breadknife on top. It has see through windows so we can see what's in there so things don't get forgotten.

I do keep the bread in a plastic bag though otherwise it dries out too quickly.

In the cupboard.

Next to the eggs.

WingsofRain · 06/03/2025 09:06

In a large, sealed Tupperware box.

The fridge
A household fridge temperature and humidity are very variable, depending on the amount of food you have stored in it and the number of times you open it in a day.
At 3 to 5 °C, bread stales faster than in the freezer or at room temperature. The fridge will prevent moulds growth and spoilage, and lower moisture loss than when at ambient conditions (without plastic bag) but starch properties change a lot faster here, leading to faster staling.

Ooh I love this. Where did you get the hanger from?
