A bit lighthearted but I am trying to declutter the kitchen worktops. I currently have a bread bin, on the worktop but I want rid.
If you don't have a bread bin where do you put the bread?

YABU - keep the bread bin on the worktop
YANBU - get rid they went with the ark. Bread is.....

In its original bag in a cupboard with the jam/butter/peanut butter.

Sourisblanche · 06/03/2025 09:11

In uk it sits on top of the air fryer (I do move it when air fryer in use!) and in France bread lives in a baguette bag which hangs on the back of the kitchen door.

@Menobaby79 it’s IKEA Observator:

Check out this OBSERVATÖR from IKEA.
Here’s a little more information:

Brilliant thankyou. I'm embarrassed to say, my bread actually goes on top of the bread bin or everyone forgets its in there and it goes off! 🙈
This would solve that little problem!

Myengagementring · 06/03/2025 09:19

In the freezer we just take slices out as we need it, but we don't eat much. I buy bagels and slice them all out then back in the bag and freeze them too. Paninis etc are taken out and defrosted as and when.

MiddleAgedDread · 06/03/2025 09:20

I don't think I have any sliced bread at the moment but if I did it would be in the freezer because I don't use it much (hence I'm not even sure if i've got any!!).

InMySpareTime · 06/03/2025 09:22

@Menobaby79 I forget things I can't see (ND and object permanence issues), we have a lot of stuff in observatör baskets round the house. My inhaler sits in front of the bread in that basket to help me regularly take it while I make toast.

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 06/03/2025 09:25

In the freezer then migrates to the bread bin as needed. I have a double height two shelf bread bin and use it for cakes etc too.

Dearg · 06/03/2025 09:26

Bread bin , in the cupboard above the toaster. Eggs sit on top of bread in, tea sits to the side.
I don’t like to move around too much in the morning.

SummerHouse · 06/03/2025 09:29

I keep bread on top of an empty bread bin. Why? Laziness and mould fear.

It's really never occurred to me to put it in a cupboard. This is a revelation!

AlteredStater · 06/03/2025 09:30

Some is left in its original packaging in the kitchen, the rest is in the freezer.

loopyloo52 · 06/03/2025 09:31

Freezer - I just get out what I need each time. I don't eat a lot and this way it stays fresh and doesn't get wasted.

Limth · 06/03/2025 09:39

In the freezer.
I started keeping bread in the freezer to reduce food waste.
But now it just lives there.
Bread that's been frozen and then lightly warmed in the oven is the food of gods.

Liann811 · 06/03/2025 09:44

On the counter I once had a bread bin open it one morning and a mouse was eating the bread so I got rid of it

whatnooow · 06/03/2025 09:44

On my arse and hips

jellyfishperiwinkle · 06/03/2025 09:45

Couldn't manage without a bread bin.

BethBynnag86 · 06/03/2025 10:07

In a large ceramic dish perched on top of the toaster.

BrillantBriony · 06/03/2025 10:08

We just brought a new bread ceramic bread bin and I love it we keep it on the peninsula.

jay55 · 06/03/2025 10:25

On top the toaster.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 06/03/2025 10:27

Our bread bin is in the larder. Which means the loaf invariably just sits on the worktop as no one can be bothered to put it in the bread bin

BlumminFreezin · 06/03/2025 10:29

Sitting on top of the empty, unused bread bin of course.

AnotherHappyCamper · 06/03/2025 10:29

I keep mine in a cupboard.

Yoyokitten · 06/03/2025 10:29

Always in the freezer.
The fridge causes moisture and then mould.

macaroniandcheeze · 06/03/2025 10:30

I got sick of the bread bin taking up space too. I still keep bread in the bread bin, but the bin lives in the cupboard with breakfast cereal and other bread items eg crumpets

GingerLiberalFeminist · 06/03/2025 10:31

We have a small kitchen and limited counter tops so I have a "bready things cupboard" (😂) in which I keep cereal, bread, wraps, pittas, brioche and DH's hot cross buns. I broadly don't eat these things anyway!
My GF bread is in the freezer.
My mum keeps bread in the fridge 😵
