To suspect the "deal" between the US and Russia Greenland for Ukraine?

FancyRedRobin · 05/03/2025 09:02

The way things are shaping up I'm beginning to think the USAs negotiations with Putin were for USA to stand aside and let Putin have part of Ukraine and for Russia to support the US to take Greenland.

funny that, it seems one prime minster does one set of things, then a few years later the next one changes what the previous one achieved, id say not much difference

Not through executive orders, our changes have to achieve a majority vote in parliament.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 06/03/2025 20:04

could you offer some constructive debate points to the thread please ?

You commented on the importance of rule of law in respect of protests and I provided an example where Trump overtly supported those involved not simply in protest but in insurrection. You're not feeling up to explaining that hypocrisy for some reason.

As such I'll exercise my own freedom of speech on this thread exactly as I see fit thanks.

countries are soon quick to need the Usa when it suits, then happy to scorn the usa the rest of the time

At least we can have confidence that our elected officials will, so long as we are sovreign, continue to change.

I think the chances of a free and fair election occurring, and it's results being respected, in the US in 2028 are slim at best.

but then you get tit for tat politics or lobbyists influencing peoples votes, how can you have effective leadership when powerful company's or groups are pulling the strings etc ?

That is true. Of course, the rich have dispoportionate influence in all democracies but the US (without spending caps, and decisions like Citizens United) all but sold it's democracy to the highest bidders, allowing truth to die with it.

Executive orders, votes, it barely even matters in the US. Trump may well completely end democracy in the US, but it was already a deeply flawed one.

Am loving all these ! The Americans need to come over to us - quality of life is much higher north of the border. We’ll give you our passport and national anthem but you’ll need to leave your constitution and guns at the border🤣

I agree - but if the US won't support or protect Europe/ the UK, then is it that much worse if China takes it?

Criticise?

Job candidates at federal agencies are being questioned on their loyalty to Trump.

Among the questions: Would you be willing to serve as a spokesperson for mass deportations? Which of Trump’s executive orders is your favorite? Who won the 2020 election?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-03-06/trump-white-house-vets-job-candidates-on-loyalty-to-the-president

You are mistaking White House hiring with federal government employee hiring. Every president has the right to decide who he wants to work in his White House, and all presidents choose loyalists. Doesn't an incoming PM get to bring his own people into No. 10? That's all this is.

Federal employee hiring (i.e., the rest of the government) does not require a loyalty test. It's illegal, for one thing.

fair points on that, but id guess the uk is the same,

Not here. That’s how US politics works.

You really think the question 'who won the 2020 election' is normal?

im sure none of your MP's are beholden to any companies or corporations ? because as soon as they are then they are already under the influence

The UK has much, much stricter rules and controls to limit the influence of lobbying on elections, particularly when it comes to campaign spending.

We also do not engage in voter suppression in the same way that many parts of the US do.

fair points, but how many secret deals are there, how many off the books business meetings are their if i remember was there not an mp or someone that was offering a meeting with the pm ?

Our rules don’t allow corporate sponsorship of MPs. Your incredulity at how a real democracy works is proving the point very well.

A United States of the World with him in charge.

But he wouldn’t be in charge. Putin, Jong Un and Jingpin amongst others would wipe the floor with him. These men are brutal and dangerous. They aren’t here to fanny around in bad concealer, they’re dangerous dictators. Trump thinks he’s playing with the big boys but he’s simply making it easier for them to get more control.

You seem reasonably intelligent. I think you would do well to read up on this yourself. You will probably be more persuaded by your own readings than by our relaying them to you second-hand.
