To suspect the "deal" between the US and Russia Greenland for Ukraine?

FancyRedRobin · 05/03/2025 09:02

The way things are shaping up I'm beginning to think the USAs negotiations with Putin were for USA to stand aside and let Putin have part of Ukraine and for Russia to support the US to take Greenland.

in our usa it has different rules for when protests are allowed so the law has already made those decisions

So silence the First Amendment-protected speech?

it does seem that way at times, its like they say people want democracy but only when its their view and any other view and they shout how dare you say x or how dare you say anything other than trump is bad etc

We value our democracies (of which you are not a member) and your country is actively undermining them while you justify it.

you can have that but you have to follow the necessary laws, unless im mistaken no different than the UK ?

Slimbear · 06/03/2025 19:54

I think the problem was that everyone thought that a global world where everywhere was accessible and everywhere was visible via tv and satellilte that we would all move to a similar set of beliefs. Shared future. Shared worry about global warming. Hence Angela Merkel relying solely on Russia for gas - why wouldn't Russia want to sell it to them.

But not accounting for the selfish and grandising by male humans - that they would want more riches and more power and more land. We thought the internet would bring us together - we watch tv programmes in all languages from all countries. But sadly we expected too much. We were wrong. Now the rich and powerful males will run everything to the detriment of the rest of us.

'it was an illegal protest. should lawless become the norm ?'

Trump was pretty relaxed about those 'protesters' in January 2021 wasn't he @LovingHare? Or is overrunning the Capitol Building within the law?

The high % figures aren’t normal tariffs but are over-quota tarrifs, meaning the tarrif rate is only charged in when imports surpass the set quota. Over-quota tariffs are rarely triggered, meaning these goods are generally traded with zero tarrifs. This was an agreement brought in by - guess who - Trump!

I understand that, but Canada limits US imports and also has many, many non-tariff barriers to trade that are not fair to our goods. It is not a level trading field.

Baffling that the suggestion you can just take possession of a country because it's useful to you is seen as a robust analysis.

I’m not sure the poster is aware this is exactly what Putin has down with Ukraine…?!. Perhaps they are also an admirer

You have a point. A lot of the recent jingoism, on all sides, is dick-measuring, and a lot of male egos are making promises that more level-headed people wouldn't make. And I include Trump in that. He runs his mouth too much. But the tariffs should come as no surprise and neither should his action re Ukraine. He campaigned on all of this.

Very different to UK laws. We don’t have a megalomaniac making them up as they go along. Or at least not since Boris Johnson resigned.

OneLemonDog · 06/03/2025 20:01

Honestly, what do you expect us to say?

"Actually, you're right. We don't need to be sovereign, we don't need to be free, please continue to threaten and attack our democracies."

If you think its the right course for your country and its people (and I don't, I think the US is setting itself up for an almighty fall), fine, but if you think that others will accept it then you are being absolutely blinded by American exceptionalism.

funny that, it seems one prime minster does one set of things, then a few years later the next one changes what the previous one achieved, id say not much difference
