I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

"Come and watch me make the most basic of crafts while telling me how much you admire me, and I gently patronise you"

Really awful.

This thread is very interesting reading.

The first few pages are mostly people who watched it, and on the whole didn't find it particularly interesting.
Generally commentary on the episodes and the content overall negative but it's very much focusing on the content.

Then a whole load of people arrive who are making the assumption that anyone who comments negatively just hates her and is committed to just hating the show because it's MM and they're royal family supporters.

Which stops the conversation about the show.

If you read the later conversation then you'd think that it was a great show and people loved it and anyone who didn't like it is just being mean and nasty with no reason.
Which really doesn't match with the early pages.

But if you look at the votes, 87% didn't like it out of over 600 votes. I'd guess most have quietly voted rather than subject themselves to being shouted down.

You have absolutely nailed it!

87% of the voters is a huge amount and probably voted but couldn’t be bothered getting in to “you’re just a hater for no reason” nonsense.

I have been having the same friends over for meals for decades and we all love trying something different in the way of cooking or presentation. No showing off, no outdoing each other, just a twist on something and having a laugh. A few years ago I got the hang of some Asian carving of vegetables...they laughed at that one!
I shall be looking for some tips on Meghan's series, I'm in a bit of a rut with it all at the mo

I can't wait for BBQ season. I'd also like to replicate the recipe of the Korean Chef. The sauce seems delicious, and again doesn't seem so incredibly difficult to make

I agree, it's very tedious but instructive in how people try to control a narrative. Given that one poster accidentally enthusiastically replied to her own post, I can't help wondering how many of these people there actually are. But yes, it has ruined the thread for any chance of reasonable discussion.

I did beekeeping for many years and found the beekeeping segment in episode one quite hilarious. Her beesuit is absolutely pristine and white, whereas anyone who regularly does beekeeping has propolis stains left even after your suits has been through a wash.

She clearly leaves it all to her beekeeper and hasn’t learned the basics. People who do it themselves at home need to know about the bee lifecycle and its not as easy as getting your personal beekeeper to harvest all the honey for you. Sometimes the bees are not as friendly as hers and they will be pinging off your beesuit. But this is how all celebrities do it really of course, there is always help behind the scenes for every task. She is a stunning woman and I find her voice quite calming.

outofofficeagain · 10/03/2025 12:27

Either that or she has a new suit every time! Her suit was a very different colour to the actual beekeepers!

It's not that confusing.

Many cookery shows are not shot at the presenter's house but when there's an element of lifestyle they might give the impression they are. Nigella will reach out for a beauitful bowl or a trusted tool and tell you a story about it as if she's at home, but she's in a TV set. The patio where the friends mingle and eat at the end of the show is not hers. The friends are hired actors. Pioneer woman confides in you about her busy home-schooling mum life and her children pop in squirming in embarrasment but she's not in her family kitchen, but in a lodge in the ranch - her family are one of the biggest landowners in America so I doubt my life as a busy mum is anything like hers. But that's okay, I enjoy the show.

With the beekeeping meghan said she'd been doing it for a year but was still learning.. that she feels uncomfortable around the bees but is trying to push out of her comfort zone. It made sense to me while I was watching?

Also she repeats throughout the show "it doesn't have to be perfect". It's simple cooking, well presented. That's the vibe the show was aiming for and why it might look rough and hesitant if you are expecting cheffy perfection. But that's not what she was aiming for. To me she came across as someone who has a young family, likes pretty things and simple food and is quite earnest and even a bit cheesy, and the series is bringing those things together - so in that way I can't see how it lacks authencity.

I guess it depends on what you expect when you sit in front of the telly?

💯💯💯

outofofficeagain · 10/03/2025 12:41

Jamie Oliver got into trouble with the planning department for building an entirely new building to house his 'studio kitchen' rather than use his actual house.

They have never been his friends round that table.

That' s very interesting. It is not something that I ever see myself doing. Do you get nervous around bees? Does the fear ease with time?

Cakeandcheeseforever · 10/03/2025 12:56

@LipglossAlly I only get nervous if one finds a hole in my suit and gets in, or the worst is if members of the public without a suit get nosy and want to watch you, then start shouting questions over at you (as happened when I used to keep bees on an allotment).

Wow, I honestly believe that it takes some serious bravery in beekeeping 😄

I couldn't do that in a million years.

Things that buzz make me nervous 😨

Oh has the thread been ruined? I thought some of us were discussing the show? It helps that the Father Jack poster seems to have taken a break from shouting SHITSHOW! IDIOTS! PAID STANS! a few times every page.

What is your take on the show anyway?

skullbabe · 10/03/2025 13:30

Absolutely agree - beekeeping requires a strong constitution. I would panic endless if a bee got into the suit or even with the thought of it.

BunnyLake · 10/03/2025 14:15

I’ve made a start on episode 3, Roy Choi. I am actually interested in the Korean cooking aspect of this as I have quite an interest in Korean pop culture/kdramas. I actually have half a jar of kimchi in my fridge (though I’m a wimp and have to rinse it before eating as it’s a bit too spicy and tangy for my feeble taste buds but I like adding it to ramen). I’ve got as far as them pickling things in jars and so far so good.

BunnyLake · 10/03/2025 14:21

@BecauseRonald The Pioneer Woman’s husband/extended family own something like 433,000 acres of Oklahoma land, which seems to basically be their garden, (combined with cattle ranch and horses) which blows my mind. (It’s not without controversy though). The lodge she films in is on that land so they do own it but I don’t know how far from her real home it is (which is also on the land). Both her daughters have started working in the family business now.

I remember once a rogue bee got in a fellow female beekeeper's pants. I've never seen someone run and strip off so quickly!

Cakeandcheeseforever · 10/03/2025 14:34

It's not really bravery on my part as I don't find bees scary. Real bravery for me would be keeping spiders, I would need a suit made of steel for that.

LipglossAlly · 10/03/2025 15:41

I also noticed that la creuset pots featured heavily in the show. I do have a "dupe" at home which is really good. Does anybody have one of those at home? Are they really worth the money/ much better than other brands?

Serenster · 10/03/2025 15:51

I have both genuine Le Creuset and “dupes” in my kitchen Lipgloss Alley and think there’s no real difference for the LC price premium. They do lovely colours, though!

(My most used one is a large lidded cast iron pan such as Meghan made her spaghetti in. I use it all the time, and have owned it for many months now, but it’s John Lewis not LC)

TheKeatingFive · 10/03/2025 15:51

I have a dupe and it's great. I could never bring myself to pay the full price for a Le Creuset. 😱

BustingBaoBun · 10/03/2025 15:58

I have a lot of Le Creuset, some given to me as wedding presents decades ago and some I've collected over the years. My latest is a le Creuset terrine DCs bought me for Christmas, I've used it once, it has a handy weight inside to press down your terrine.

I go to the seconds LC shop, good bargains there but I have all different colours which helps!

I have that JL dupe, in the Le Creuset orange. I love it. I always do pasta dishes in it, also baked rice dishes. Also an ikea one that has lasted years. Wouldn't be able to justify a le creuset.

skullbabe · 10/03/2025 17:13

I have one Le Creuset pot and about 5 Sainsburys dupes - I think that there is no real difference between them. I have had the dupes for over 10 years and they have done really well.
