I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

"Come and watch me make the most basic of crafts while telling me how much you admire me, and I gently patronise you"

Really awful.

Yes she did. it’s one of the snippets I’ve seen (didn’t watch the actual interview). ‘H’ is talking and she interrupts him and says something like “Even, the National Anthem, no one helped me, there’s me in the early hours googling it”. Or words to that effect. For someone who doesnt believe in mollycoddling staff (remember that?) she complained (with narky face) that she wasn’t getting a handhold to learn a song’. Even if she’s being goofy, giggly whatever that snarky side of her was out for people to see and it’s not easy for some (like me) to dismiss that aspect of her or think she’s just a loveable goofball really.

You have not replied to the previous post though. One of the issues with Meghan was that she did work really hard and expected people to do their jobs. She was a self- starter. Her track record as a Royal is impressive: Smart Work, the cookbook and so many other projects in a relatively short amount of time as a working royal. So again this doesn't give
me the vibe of a person that lacks proactivity and a can do attitude.

Meghan did not talk about the National Anthem at all in the Oprah interview. I watched it. She did not talk about the anthem - you might be might be thinking about something else and might want to watch those clips again.

Edited

She was wearing the birdshit dress. I didn't watch the interview but I have definitely seen that. I remember someone somewhere (perhaps a tv reviewer) saying Princess Mary, an Australian, not only learnt her new NA in Danish (?) but learnt the whole language so why is Meghan acting like learning the English language NA on her own is a point to complain about. I haven't imagined this, it definitely exists.

skullbabe · 09/03/2025 13:54

People just gloss over SmartWorks and the Grenfell cookbook (Together: Our Community Cookbook).

skullbabe · 09/03/2025 13:56

I will re-iterate that Meghan did not talk about the National Anthem at all in the Oprah interview and whatever commentator had to say about someone else learning the Danish National Anthem does not change the fact that Meghan did not talk about the British National Anthem in the Oprah interview.

This assumption is wrong.
Again, we know that the majority of people that hate watch anything put out by Meghan are going to give very negative reviews, whereas the people that enjoyed it including me are not necessarily going to provide their input.

There were many negative reviews, but also many other postie review(I am going to post them).

Go under the comment section of the Guardian( they published 4 negative reviews on one cooking show) - people are literally racking them apart because they have enjoyed the content and found something fishy with this little cooking show being review bombed by a supposedly serious outlet like the Guardian( 4 reviews for a cooking show really?). We have people literally threatening to not support the Guardian anymore likening it to the DM.

This is not the kind of reaction that I would expect for a universally disliked show.

To conclude, as any other show it resonated with some people and fldit not with others.

What I am seeing is that there is a concerted effort to make you believe that this show was universally disliked when it is simply not true. Deal with it and move on.

I’ve been quite surprised by the Guardian jumping on the MM obsession bandwagon. It’s been quite obvious and strange. Maybe one review by the TV critic and an opinion piece due to her fame, but they’re hovering DM territory.

Maybe their journalists and editors went to school with the DM and Murdoch journalists and they are attacking MM and Harry out of anger for the court case win?

In any case Leveson recommendations need to be implemented. British ‘journalism’ is in the toilet and an international embarrassment.

Baital · 09/03/2025 12:39

You know, the implication of your response is that she needs the 'hate watchers', the show won't have enough interest without.

Surely you think she can make it on the merits of the show itself?

Well speaking for myself, I couldn't give a fuck if there's a season 3. I don't think I'll get through season 1 because its just not my thing. But the absolutely ott obsession with this woman is just bizarre to watch. Who knows if this will survive on just the people who like it, because it cant be measured. The people who hate it seem not to be able to switch off so they are being counted in the engagement figures. Netflix care about engagement. Her haterz may as well save 8 hours of their lives and have a whipround and give her £100m because thats effectively what they are doing. Same with Mailonline and the rest. They couldn't give a fuck about the Royal Family. They would turn on Kate and William in a heartbeat if it gave them clicks on their site, and the Royal Family know it.

I don’t want to keep going on about it but I will quote this from BusinessInsider.com

”There was no official guidance she told Oprah Winfrey in a tell-all interview. Markle googled the national anthem and learned church hymns herself”.

I stand by my version of events.

BustingBaoBun · 09/03/2025 14:20

Yep. That's why the royal family are very grateful for the human shield AKA Meghan to allow them to do what they want with little scrutiny. Without her, the spotlight would be more on them

skullbabe · 09/03/2025 14:21

If Business Insider said this then Business Insider was wrong - Meghan did not talk about the National Anthem at all in the Oprah interview.

I mean apart from it being a pretty awful national anthem, there are bits of it that aren't sung, because it relates to killing Scottish people, so maybe someone should have told her what should and shouldn't be sung. But in any case, that was years ago,and people are still banging on about it. And most of it was Harry's fault.

skullbabe · 09/03/2025 14:27

This is very sad Indeed.
It goes beyond M&H at this point. My opinion on the

Guardian which I once deemed a reputable outlet has gone down the toilet. I am not the only one. Many readers seem disappointed at the turn the Guardian is taking. Many people have highlighted that they found the whole thing fishy and are no longer interested in supporting this newspaper.

God knows if this country needs serious reputable media outlets as opposed to these newspapers that engage in tabloid culture with no integrity and professionalism whatsoever.

Yeah probably many journalists that work there have attended the same private schools as the ones working at DM, and at the end of the day despite playing champagne socialists from time to time they will tow the line and protect the status quo at all costs won't they? And again hate sells.

Well she tried. But the Barefoot Contessa does it so much better if you are into that kind of thing. Nigella too. It's all a bit passé.

I adore Ina and Geoffrey.

The issue is it’s so contrived and clinical. Why are her ‘friends’ fawning over her while she is making a cake, cookies or charcuterie.
Very odd programme and really shows that Meghan doesn’t have a lot of friends and little to offer outside of her relationship with ‘H’ .

uhhuhuhhuhuhuh · 09/03/2025 14:54

@LipglossAlly you're again missing the point. The royal family or institution isn't a meritocracy. She nuked her privilege minutes after a royal wedding ceremony that cost the British public millions. She should have had the grace and patience to adapt to a life she freely signed up to. Not act like it was time to overthrow the monarchy in some DEI coup. It was shameful to a lot of British people and totally unacceptable. Whether you like it or not we have a monarch and we aren't the USA. Meghan should have had more respect for that and used her abilities to modernise from the inside and not behave like the self publicist we now know her to be.

This thread is about her programme and her ability to entertain. I hope she finds a way to create a new life for herself in a way that she wants to, but the British people that value or at least respect the monarchy are not likely to see past her actions.

LipglossAlly · 09/03/2025 15:01

This is just not true.
During the series we are introduced to a number of friends that she has known for 10+ years( I find it remarkable that despite moving continent, marrying into this kind of institution and being smeared globally she was able to maintain these many friendships! That is a testament to the type of person she is.)

The reason why they seem to be " gushing" over her are the following:

  1. They are American, they are not afraid to express their love and emotions( I have family in the US and I can recognise some of their mannerisms)
  2. "Amazing" is a recurrent word in their vocabulary
  3. Most importantly they have a friend very dear to their heart that was ruthlessly and mercilessly attacked and smeared by the press for almost a decade. If I were in their shoes, I would be extremely protective of her and would be singing her praises all the time especially in front of a camera, knowing that this content was going to be televised and criticised.

As always it is opposite day in these threads!

Thank you for this. It is absolutely absurd that someone who said they watched it insists over and over again that she didn’t mention the NA. Kept telling me no she didn’t. I didn’t even watch the damn thing but I know I saw that particular bit on tv so if anyone is disilusional it certainly isn’t me! Is this what’s known as gaslighting?
