I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

Really awful.

What you little MM haters

It always get so personal and insulting from the MM fans,

Look, it's' only a critique of a show, which the majority happen to think is shite, she made a terrible show and most people don't love her enough to pretend it isn't crap.

It is not being personal.
There is nothing wrong with thinking that a show is sh@t, but again the kind of comment that we are seeing on these threads( such as diagnosing people with narcissism , calling people a thurd, or being infuriated at a person because her handwriting is too perfect) screams hater/unhinged to me no matter what they tell themselves to try to justify this behaviour.

You think that the show is sh@t, while other people enjoyed it - they are not faking their enjoyment of the show, they are simply providing their input.

Not being able to accept that other people may enjoy a show that we dislike and accusing them of being "fake" is just bizarre.

I watched another couple of episodes last night. The lack of actual practical advice gets on my nerves. There’s just a lot of gushing about nonsense.

She made ceviche with raw halibut but there was no discussion of the health and safety aspects. It gave the impression you could eat it instantly. Don’t you have to let it “cure” for a while?

On the potstickers, what flour were they using? There was no reference to it. How long were they cooking for? More cack-handedness turning them out. The plate they were using was far too thick and heavy and two of them couldn’t support it. They could have turned that into a learning moment and had Meghan say “let me get a thinner plate”. Instead they fell on the counter and the friend rescued them. I guess it was kept in as adorably relatable.

muhlezur · 09/03/2025 10:22

Little MM haters it's always the same rhetoric from MM fans.

Anyway no one is saying no one enjoyed it, just saying the majority thought it was shite, and it was shite because Meghan did not come across as authentic nor did she come across as a good presenter and the content was not all that great either.

I like it. She's soothing to watch and listen to. I've had an incredibly stressful week, and her show has been a balm.

I won't go on any of the 7 (?!) 'As Ever' threads on the RF board to say so; positive posters get ridiculed. I've rated it on Netflix; that's my review done. Only the hate-watchers are searching out IDMB/Rotten Tom/Google etc to leave -ve reviews.

Look, it's' only a critique of a show, which the majority happen to think is shite, she made a terrible show and most people don't love her enough to pretend it isn't crap.

Yet millions and millions have watched it world wide.

By Netflix's criteria, this is the opposite of 'shite' or 'terrible', it's a resounding success.

So you didn't like it? Who cares, you almost certainly weren't the target audience. There are vocal detractors online, sure, but the millions watching haven't been put off by them.

All Netflix cares about is eyeballs. And the got them in spades.

uhhuhuhhuhuhuh · 09/03/2025 10:25

She does look nice! She's a beautiful young woman with the sort of taste that screams money and style. It's anodyne. I'm sure she is good at all these things. But it's a bit like expecting a social media influencer to become a much loved TV Personality overnight. She isn't. And she hasn't earned that right to respect yet. I genuinely would like to see her do well. I just think that she needs to listen to her advisors and unclench a little.

I disagree with the concept of majority.
Who are you referring to? What sample are we referring to? No the majority did not dislike the show. Those who strongly disliked it are just more noisy. Again do not let your algorithm fool you.

The lady has found her nieche, she is making money and has moved on with her life from this RF shebang.

Whether you like it or not. Ignoring reality won't change things. Let it go.

That's a fair post. I imagine if she moves forward with this, she will hone her style and unclench!

I'm pretty sure it isn't my thing, so I haven't watched it. Its really, really easy to do. However, after reading about it on here, I might give it a try! People who hate her and spend all their days slagging off every single thing are not' critiquing' the show! They are up to 6 threads on the Royal Family board about it! I doubt they are 'critiquing'! What is there to say if you hate something so much? They must have watched all 8 episodes in order to get up to 6 threads in the space of a few days! If that's not deranged, I don't know what is!

BustingBaoBun · 09/03/2025 10:37

Yes someone said they'd watched all 8 episodes, and hated every minute 😂

I wish some posters would realise that such negativity makes me want to watch it all, in solidarity with a woman who...all she's done is produce a lifestyle series that's probably just pap. I like pap when I want to give my brain a rest!

TheKeatingFive · 09/03/2025 10:41

I’m genuinely laughing at this because the monarchists can be very personal and insulting too, and they hunt in packs! 😆👍

I’ve seen one or two Republicans hounded off these threads in a very unpleasant way. And then some Monarchists complain about frequent name-changers. Well, duh!

To get back to the topic of Meghan’s series, there will surely be all sorts of viewers? Those who are curious, those who watch to hate, those who support her, and those who just happen upon it by chance. I imagine she couldn’t care less about the UK audience. She has always been very much focused on her home audience; as presumably that will be her main customer base?

I haven’t watched it and don’t intend to, but I hope she finds a good niche and sticks to it. Martha must be retiring soon surely? 😀 And Meghan should be able to tap in to a younger audience who have never been taught to cook.

As I said, I havent watched it ( yet!) but surely its aspirational, at least in part? If I saw a halibut Ceviche being made, I wouldn't make it just from watching the programme, Id look up one of the million recipe sites so that I could do it. I don't watch a Jamie Oliver live show and then try and make his recipes from memory. I watch the programme and think 'That looks nice' and them maybe Ill look up the actual recipe later. Someone in The Guardian slagged off the 'rainbow fruit platter' becasue it would cost £30 in Tesco. Well, she lives in California and shes a millionnaire. It would hardly be 'authentic' to pretend she couldnt afford to put together a £30 fruit platter! Actually if I took my kids to a party and they had a lovely fruit platter laid out like a rainbow, Id be thrilled, and it would make it more likely my kids would dip into some fruit.

The thing with working in advertising is you need to have thick skin and learn to take feedback. Not act as if everyone is being mean. Like some of the people here. Even she knows she has to adapt what is a trial run of branded retail entertainment. I'd like to point out that this is from US media. No one here is saying anything that hasn't already been said!

Meghan Markle has admitted she is “making mistakes and learning from them” in a new interview to promote her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, which dropped this week to less-than-glowing reviews

Tina Brown, founding editor of the Daily Beast, called Markle “unbelievably inauthentic,” while Janice Min, founder of the Hollywood gossip newsletter The Ankler, joked that the show felt like it was filmed in a “mental institution for wealthy women” and that Markle’s guests looked like they were in “a hostage situation.”
A report in British tabloid the Sun cited a TV insider who said, “This may raise a few eyebrows, but one thing which Netflix love is controversy—and this show certainly created a lot of debate."
“Many were so scathing about the eight-part series that they thought there was no way it would get another season,” the source added. “But it seems the streamer is delighted with the chatter it’s created on both sides of the Atlantic this week.”
Netflix is also partnering with Meghan for As Ever, her “lifestyle brand dedicated to beautifully crafted essentials.”

To be fair I have often wondered whether Nigella’s “guests” were chained to her dining table with fairy lights… . 😀

BustingBaoBun · 09/03/2025 10:59

I will say...I'm sick to death of the 'inauthentic' jibe levelled at her. Who is authentic?
Nigella...nah, she cooks in a stage set warehouse near her home. Is she really like her TV persona? Doubtful. I've met her, nice lady but quite unlike her TV persona.
Jamie Oliver? Blokey bloke pulling up potatoes from his garden or is it his garden
No one who does this stuff is totally authentic, it doesn't work like that

You know how people like to buy cookery books to read, but rarely cook any of the recipes? I think the series caters more to that market.

GhostOrchid · 09/03/2025 11:04

Sure. I’m just a practical person who like practical advice. It doesn’t have to be massively in depth.

It just confirms to me that she’s got no understanding or knowledge of what she’s doing.

This is so spot on.

I've made a hobby of collecting books about household hints, gracious living, entertaining, etc for 40 years now. Some date back to the early 1900s.

None of her activities/tips/advice/whatever they are is the slightest bit original or contemporary. None. She's coasting along on cliches that have been trotted out for decades.

You'd think her NF producers would have suggested more sophisticated or original subject matter.

The mind reels with how much money she's being paid to cut up strawberries.

Why are people so fixated with the host of a cooking show being authentic? I am not sure whether Martha Stewart was ever authentic in front of the camera , I will never know and I am fine with that. I don't care about who she is in real life.

The lady is there to provide a lifestyle show and sell her merchandise not to wear her heart on her sleeves and to be authentic.

Authentic compared to what? Are these people fixated on her not being authentic because the Meghan that we are seeing on the show is a sweet, dorky woman who enjoys wholesome activities such as cooking for her family and hosting, a very different image compared to this she- devil caricature that they have tried to portray for years? Is that what they really mean when screaming inauthentic?

Ilovecleaning · 09/03/2025 11:27

TheKeatingFive · 08/03/2025 07:55

Well no. It's not about whether you're criticising her or not, just factual accuracy. Being into hosting / cooking for friends is not being a trad wife.

Sure. But nor are they coming from a starting point of global headlines sensationalising attacks on the monarchy. It doesn't matter I'd that's "fair" or not. It is where they now are. And they have to deal with the fact not everyone likes them or respects their actions. Maybe in time it will ease, I'm sure it will. Why does a cooking show has to be groundbreaking?
Why does she have to reinvent the wheel?

We have people screaming that the show is soooo "unrelatable", when there are recipes that can be easily replicated.

The aim of the show was probably to provide something that was extremely aesthetically pleasing to watch while providing simple, replicable recipes and hacks. I am not sure a lot of people want to watch very long and complicated recipes( although I am sure there is a public for these kinds of shows).

They may want to watch what is supposed to be an aspirational type of content and go "Oh I might not leave in Montecito, but these things are not so difficult to replicate, I am going to give it a try".

The reason why she is being paid millions is the same reason why other people like the Obamas were paid handsomely - to bring viewership and promote the platform itself in addition to the project. It is as simple as that.

I'm not avoiding responsibility about anything! Nor arguing with you. Bottom line is I have a different point of view.

I think the criticism of her over seven years is completely off the wall and too much. She can't move on because detractors won't let her. She's a national punch bag.
