If you're a non-meghan markle hater, what's your opinion on her show on netflix?

It's been panned but a lot of the press already hate her, hence my asking

Is it really that bad? I'm in my 30s and it doesn't seem aimed at my age group from the clips online.

There's one bad clip of her correcting mindy kaling on her name but I'm sure that's just been put out to make her look bad 😭

Worth a watch?

Seems rather pointless to me. Watched a bit just so I could judge for myself. I read that pre marriage she had a lifestyle blog that was quite good, but that on the show she doesn't come off the same way at all.

I think she has found her thing and I think this is possibly it. It's harmless, people can take the piss out of it if that's their bag, but it's just frothy pap and harmless.
I hope she does more.

I'm wondering about a Real Housewives sort of show. I think that might showcase her without her having responsibility for content.

BustingBaoBun · 15/03/2025 07:50

I just think a Real Housewives thing opens her up for more criticism whereas this lifestyle pap could cover all sorts of handicrafts, light gardening, outdoor stuff, BBQs, .....I hasten to add I haven't seen all of her series and there's more episodes to come so all this might be covered.

Well, I think the RH would allow her to do all those things, without carrying a whole programme, which I think is a bit much for her. Maybe a slot on a magazine show?

BustingBaoBun · 15/03/2025 08:01

I don't really know much about Real Housewives I must admit so I expect you're right! (I watched about 5 minutes once and thought oh my, not for me!)

I just think that carrying her own programme is a bit much for her, so a slot on a sort of reality/lifestyle thing might be a better shout.

Hating on people that are famous or that you don’t know is such a ridiculously stupid thing. But so is being a ‘huge fan’ of them too. They’re people doing a job. That is literally it. It’s so weird to me how invested people get into it. 😂

RanyaJerodung · 15/03/2025 08:57

"Hating on"? What do you mean by that @OliphantJones ?
I've not seen any "hate" personally , but I'd report it, and recommend you do the same.

neverbeenskiing · 15/03/2025 09:20

I read an article she’d written and heard of some women’s rights work she’d done. I thought she seemed intelligent and socially aware. It’s a shame she’s not continuing along this line

When she was doing that stuff she got slammed by the press for "virtue signalling" and being too "woke". Now she's pivoted to lifestyle/influencer type stuff and people are saying it's "insipid" and "pointless". She can't win.

I'm indifferent to her. I have no interest in watching the show but I certainly don't see any reason to "hate" her.

RanyaJerodung · 15/03/2025 09:24

I think "she can't win" is reductive and simplistic. It portrays her as a victim. She had support and positivity as a member of the RF as well. There was a groundswell of support when they married. However, I think the celebrity lifestyle is a bit tricky and if you're into self promotion and it will inevitably draw criticism.

BustingBaoBun · 15/03/2025 10:04

Celebrity lifestyle draws criticism, I agree, but there's no getting away from the fact she gets it more than most. Now, whether that is fair or not, is something lots of us won't agree on!

True! Unfortunately, she's a controversial figure because of how they were after leaving the RF. If she'd done this sort of thing straight off, I don't think it would have been so bad. However, all the other stuff has been very divisive.
The best thing to do is try to forge a positive life moving forward.

zingally · 15/03/2025 10:11

I don't hate her in the slightest. Genuinely have zero opinion on the woman one way or the other. Have no interest in watching her show. Just because, from what I've heard, it's just another of those cutesy rich-people lifestyle shows, of which I have just no interest in as a genre.

I’ll not watch it, don't wish to pry. Wink

Do you really not see the difference between having every private detail of your life in the tabloids and having a job that involves public engagement?

You do know it was the tabloid press who first set up the false dichotomy that the only choice they had were a 24/7 reality show or going into seclusion for the rest of their lives and that anything other than the latter made them hypocrites?

I find it amazing how many people who ‘don’t read the Daily Mail’ are happy to trot out their talking points on this subject!

NewMarmiteJar · 15/03/2025 18:27

What on earth are you talking about! Saying I don’t wish to pry and a wink surely indicates a lack of of concern for their nonsense. I’m sorry if you didn’t get that. My dry wit obviously doesn’t translate!

No. It doesn’t. Also wit? If you say so….

NewMarmiteJar · 15/03/2025 23:16

oh dear, i hope your feel better soon.

mumwithallthebooks · 15/03/2025 23:31

I don't dislike Meghan. I don't know the woman and have no reason to. However her show looks terminally dull and not what I'd want to watch.

CandidHedgehog · 16/03/2025 07:16

NewMarmiteJar · 15/03/2025 23:16

Oh, I’m fine thanks. Fairly amused by someone who genuinely believes that if someone doesn’t get their ‘joke’ (which is actually a straight repeat of a standard abusive comment towards the Sussexes, how hilarious) it’s the other person’s fault, though.

Edited: Just to make it clear, ‘how hilarious’ is sarcasm. Need to make this clear on the internet!

This is quite an overreaction

Why? Genuine question. Obviously I don’t agree or I wouldn’t have posted it but I’m wondering why you do.

The original post suggested watching the content was ‘prying’ and the wink as applied to the actual statement made indicated that statement was tongue in cheek.

That is exactly what the tabloids do in regard to M&H’s output - they pretend the Sussexes are hypocrites for asking for privacy then releasing public content and make snide comments about not ‘prying’ by reading / watching or claim ‘they are invading their own privacy’.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to point out someone is repeating a Daily Mail talking point on what is meant to be a thread for people who don’t hate Meghan.

I note the poster now says she only repeated the standard abusive comment sarcastically, although I’m not sure how anyone was supposed to know that but ‘I was only jokiiiing’ is a fairly standard response, too.

DiscoBeat · 16/03/2025 07:45

I don't hate her but found it very sickly to watch. Is she always like that? The sprinkled dried flowers on everything actually started to make me angry, which is totally unlike me!

TheKeatingFive · 16/03/2025 07:50

Just pointing out that H&M never actually said they wanted privacy.

No indeed. They wanted to "collaborate with the Queen" and "carve a progressive new role within this institution".
They definitely still wanted to be royal, and to be public figures.

Agreed, both Meghan and Harry have stressed they never made any such claim both in the Oprah interview and via a spokesman.

It’s an interesting how pervasive the myth is, though. It’s clearly still being pushed hard by a section of the media.
