AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

Any chance you could knock the rampant misinformation here (and on other threads) on the head with deletion? I know people challenge it, but that’s not good enough. It’s well known that repetition of misinformation leads people to begin to think there must be some truth in it. Can you delete it immediately you see it/it’s reported please?

I think this is called Trump Derangement Syndrome

It’s Trump’s defenders, not detractors, who have ‘Derangement Syndrome’

Here's the best short summary of the overall situation (pre-Oval Office fracas) of which I am aware. As Beverley Turner says above the (4 minute) video, "If you can prove any of this wrong, I want to hear it":

By disinformation you mean other's opinions?

I think this is called Trump Derangement Syndrome

  • A state of being unable to think clearly or behave normally, especially due to mental illness
  • A mental disorder that is relatively permanent
  • A disturbance of the mind or body
  • Synonyms include mental unsoundness, unbalance, and insanity

When I read the meaning of derangement the one person I think of that ticks all the boxes, funnily enough, is donald trump. 😅

By disinformation you mean other's opinions?

Do you think a differing opinion automatically means disinformation?

Darker · 06/03/2025 12:57

One of the reasons I find all this so terrifying is that there is undoubtedly a lot we simply don’t know.

Some of the information given is plausible, while some is apparently easy to dismiss as disinformation. And I think that the more rubbish we have thrown at us, the more likely we are to agree with a more plausible account of the truth. We have become polarised and less able or willing to explore the nuances.

Crakajak · 06/03/2025 13:01

This is what North Korea and China calls disinformation: Different views and opinions. Why? Because information is limited to you if it doesn't fit the narrative. Thus if you're spoon fed government approved 'information ' then anything outside of this is deemed disinformation or conspiracy theories. It is deeper than this. DO BETTER.

You are concerned about disinformation and government gaslighting in China and Korea?

By disinformation you mean other's opinions?

Just a few quick questions

Who started the war?
Is Z a dictator?
Haa the war cost US 350b?
Should Canada become 51st state?
Are flat tariffs clever?
Where is the Gulf of Mexico?

I could go on, but your views on these would probably clear up the "who shallows disinformation" question

Hey baby...Google trump and tariffs...that sound you hear is the sound of trump reversing really quickly...why ?.....because he was tanking the economy ...how long has he been in government ?? 6 weeks. 😓That takes some doing in 6 weeks. 😃

His very very long boring speech the other day was all about what Joe biden did or didn't do....because he couldn't talk about much he had done himself that was positive because it was all about Elon, air crashes, doge, removing Medicaid, medicare, social security, and a large helping of illegality, and lies. Trump hates Joe biden because JB BEAT him. Old sleepy Joe beat trump and trump will never get over it. 😂

America has invited the thief into their house, opened the safe and told them where all jewellery is hidden, theyve let musk walk in and pocket it ...and pay him in the process. The republicans are tieing themselves in knots over American citizens getting a few dollars assistance but giving musk multiple billions of dollars...the south African is laughing all the way to his bank, while half of America cheers him on.

Different (and provocative) perspective from a normally respectable, reliable source. Sorry, have come late to this thread so have not read in full.

I got bored with this article, so couldn't finish it. Vance is probably worse than Trump, and that's saying something

Darker · 06/03/2025 14:35

Tanking the economy and then letting it bounce seems like a way to make a lot of money if you have the inside knowledge.

cardibach · 06/03/2025 14:35

Crakajak · 06/03/2025 12:46

By disinformation you mean other's opinions?

No, opinions are interpretations of things. We can have different opinions about whether Brussels sprouts taste nice, or whether Barcelona is a good city for a hen do, or whether Trump’s policies make sense to us.
Disinformati9n is a polite word for lies. So, saying Zelenskyy has bought an expensive house in Florida or that he is a dictator and so on is disinformation. It’s not true. You can’t have the opinion that he has the house, he doesn’t and that’s that. He’s an elected leader so you can’t have the opinion he’s a dictator, he just isn’t and that’s that.
See the difference now?

100% agree. Unfortunately the route of misinformation, and utter fiction comes from Trump. The cult like delusional followers believe every word that comes out of his mouth, without having a clue about real events. It is very sad, and alarming to see people being so easily brainwashed.

Actually disinformation is worse than lies. It's lies that are deliberately spread to deceive people to secure economic or political gain, regardless of public harm.

If the shoe fits, @Crakajak

I do wonder how long your MN posting history is...

Well he did it in his last administration. America being mugged off by the money men again. Literally daylight robbery.

Those 19% who vote that you’re unreasonable to be upset about thus are people who really should make themselves aware of what is really going on and the implications. Perhaps they’re fascists themselves
