AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

Ukraine war latest: US pauses military aid to Ukraine as EU chief says Europe is 'ready to step up'

Meanwhile, Russia says Donald Trump's move is "the best contribution to the cause of peace".

Well, not really. Ukraine have been ready to accept all along, they just weren’t ready to hand everything over to Russia, quite rightly. So if Russia demand unreasonable things (like keeping any of Ukraine at all) then he won’t accept and it won’t happen. There’s only one way for this to end peacefully and that’s Putin getting the fuck out of someone else’s country.

This

and any peacekeeping will be in spite of Trump not because of Trump

I agree, Trump is an immensely damaging fool.

Anyone would think you are unhappy that the Trump government's diplomacy may be about to bring the war to an end 🤨

EasternStandard · 11/03/2025 19:34

Fingers crossed this can end. Half way there with outcome today. Sounds positive so far.

DuncinToffee · 11/03/2025 19:51

Diplomacy?

His actions of witholding military aid and intelligence sharing has cost lives

Correct this to Trumps bullying, lying and threats and that would be accurate

And repeat.

Trump isn’t the only player here.

Lots of conversations happening to navigate this. Trump was the loudest. By his own admission he likes ‘good television’ .

Yep, was just talking about this. Those few days of withholding aid and intelligence have caused irreparable damage.

I’m sure this development has been facilitated by Trump not actually being there.

Tactical decision. Regrettable loss now in an attempt to avoid far greater loss with a continuous war.

He did say he could understand Russia's actions....

Tactical decision that cost civilians their lives

The only loss he cares about is financial. US is simply insular

SinnerBoy · 11/03/2025 20:38

Diplomacy, don't make me laugh. A ceasefire isn't a peace, it's a lull in the fighting. Trump wants Ukraine to surrender and to pretend that he's brought a peace.

Only an idiot, or a Trump cultist would claim otherwise.

It won't. For one thing the Russians will make unreasonable demands. For another thing a 30 day ceasefire is not the end of the war anyway

cardibach · 11/03/2025 21:55

And Russia has broken numerous ceasefire agreements already.
