AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

Meanwhile, Russia says Donald Trump's move is "the best contribution to the cause of peace".

He's been in Russian pockets for a long time.

@cardibach well. They have Constitution, they have guns (not a fan of). But, they might put the two together eventually. Whatever he does now, on a broader scale with tariffs (which will make things more expensive NOT for China, but for the average Joe), layoffs, warming up towards russia, is not republican, is not democratic, and it WILL come bite him in the ass. There was impeachment attempt already, there were trials - and people who initiated this are still there.

It’s been obvious that all Trump’s moves have been to further the interests of Russia for years.

The baffler is why the American electorate didn’t see it.

Edited

Personally, I think core Trump voters are generally as thick as shit. They wouldn't see it, and probably wouldn't care.

There must be other floating voters though who were taken in by his bullshit and are regretting their choice now that reality is starting to set in. There must be! Surely! Please tell me they don't all support this arsewipe unquestioningly!!! ☹️

I’m starting to wonder if we’ll be looking at another grassy knoll scenario, if he keeps this up.

Unless the Russians have nobbled all the security services too.

So we end up with Vance instead? Great.

I've just seen an interview where he said "the Europeans need to start telling zelensky the killing and bloodshed must end". No mention of Putin of course.

Stowickthevast · 04/03/2025 12:05

YABU to be horrified. It was obvious after last week's ambush on Zekensky that he was planning this all along with his puppet master Putin.

Awful that people like Mario Rubio are supporting it though. He was a strong advocate for Ukraine previously.

It won't help. Trump isn't leading. He's the front man for the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025.

Steve Bannon, Russ Vought, etc, are there behind him depth. Vance is their pick.

Horrified? Yes. Surprised? No. Not in the slightest.

The next step will be the US relinquishing sanctions on Russia.

I know you shouldn't wish death on anyone, including your enemies. But now would be a really good time for a 'carbon monoxide poisoning' at the White House, with Putin in attendance to 'negotiate' his peace deal.

Itisbetter · 04/03/2025 12:06

It’s time the world shunned the US their behaviour is disgusting. Maybe China will save us.

MissyB1 · 04/03/2025 12:06

I think we and the rest of Europe need to (sadly) start regarding America as an enemy. Who would have thought we would see the day....😥

I saw a hilarious thread on threads where someone was absolutely insistent that Canada would be paying the price of the tariffs and under no circumstances would it be put onto the price American buyers would pay. She was indignant at the thought that Canadian exporters might pass this on. Because that's not what Trump said would happen!9

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 04/03/2025 12:08

As a PP rightly says, I can be horrified without being entirely surprised.

After the amount of hatred levelled at Trump over the last months I'm not surprised he has decided not to play the game any more.

valder · 04/03/2025 12:12

I as an individual can't do much. But I will not visit America, and I hope that sense prevails amongst those who have some brains and integrity in America, even on the Supreme Court benches. There must be some surely over there who can fight back by democratic means in the Congress and Senate?

Will the mid terms help if they return a majority of Dems? Sorry I'm not up to speed on the way it works over there but I live in hope.

There might be a Revolution or another Civil War over there in the end.

Yes, they’d have to take Vance out as well, and no doubt others. Maybe in some sort of scandal. But then who would take the reins?

BeardofHagrid · 04/03/2025 12:13

I have been crying all morning. Just WHY?

ohreallyIsee · 04/03/2025 12:14

people just don't get tariffs, that imposing them will increase prices, they seem to think that manufacturers and producers will just swallow the cost

It IS scary but I'm so glad Europe is standing firm and recognising that appeasing Putin is NOT the way to secure the safety of Ukraine and wider Europe.

We need to be able to defend ourselves without relying on the US. I know not all Americans think like Trump but he is the one in power for the next four years and he has made it clear that he thinks we're all too far away to care about.

Not sure Trump & co. will be happy to vacate their seat after four years .... I think they're here to stay ...

I genuinely think he's a Russian asset, I think it's worrying that we share so much intelligence with the U.S. We are on the brink of the possibility of a very different world in future, militarily, financially and morally. I just hope Europe pulls together and stays strong.

I really think this too.

BeardofHagrid · 04/03/2025 12:15

The Spring Offensive will begin in the next few days so don’t worry guys. We got this 🇺🇦💪🥰

I am sorry but I have never in my 50 pus years on this earth read so much crap and seen so many hysterical posts as on this thread. its bloody ridiculous.where on earth are you getting your bizarre ideas from?
President Trump is posturing and making a very valid point to the world,us included, cannot you see that?He is taking a stand and a valid one at that that America is not the saviour of the world especially financially. Why do you all expect that country to finance everything? America owes no country anything, and why should the President and citizens of America be subject to such disrespect? Aid has temporarily been suspended. This is to force the hand of the little man running round the world with his hands out in his action man clothes demanding every other country finance his every whim whilst billions of pounds has gone "missing". Nobody, not one single country,us,France, anyone can go into this with alleged peacekeepers or boots on the ground without America no one, you should remember that.No American backing No dice and no one can move and no peace. Whilst our Pm is rallying leaders of nations no one has the money.weapons or troops to move an inch without America. Trump is forcing the hand of Zalensky to negociate. As for being a russian plant well ffs grow up.This war will be stopped round a table not on the battlefield as zalensky would like glorified by dead soldiers on the ground. I would step back, calm down and have a chill about which scenario would play out the best for everyone.

You don’t think the US owes the other NATO states for us all stepping up and coming in with them in their war on terror, following 9/11?

LifeExperience · 04/03/2025 12:17

Chypre · 04/03/2025 11:53

Something tells me that whatever Trump does (or tries to do) is just showing off for the press. Surely things like that have to be put through congress/senate/whatever first? In a democratic manner? He can't singlehandedly "order" things?

Usually funds appropriated by Congress must be spent, but Biden withheld appropriated funds from Israel, setting a precedent that the courts will likely follow when the lawsuits start flying.

Topseyt123 · 04/03/2025 12:17

I'm not surprised at all. It is scary and horrifying though.

Trump is definitely Putin's lapdog.

The only sliver of light that I can see is that as this is Trump's second term then it has to be his final one. Unless he tries to repeal the two terms only constitution amendment, and I wouldn't put it past him to try.

Even so, Vance could well decide to run for president at the next election. Then we would be in danger of having an even worse thick as shit cunt in the White House.

The world is currently a worrying place.

Vance as POTUS will be no better, probably worse if that's possible.
