AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

Meanwhile, Russia says Donald Trump's move is "the best contribution to the cause of peace".

The current VP is more vocal and visible than any other VP that I can remember. That's deliberate obviously, bad cop, bad cop. The demonic duo.

I have hopes, however risible they may seem at the moment, that cool and intelligent, moral and incorruptible heads will prevail in Congress/Senate and the courts.

The mid terms will prove me right or wrong, and you know which one most people want. A lot can happen between then and now though, and that's very worrying.

Is there any mechanism (other than assassination) to get rid of a President. Not that I know of anyway.

Magic3forvever · 04/03/2025 14:09

@BIossomtoes what then ? I mean genuinely what do people think could work ?

laveritable · 04/03/2025 14:09

Hilary Clinton has been very vocal about putin and his ambitions and how trump is his "puppet" ( putin hates Hilary because she could predict his every move),

EasternStandard · 04/03/2025 14:09

European leaders know their own countries will end up fighting Putin if this surrender deal happens. It's looking almost inevitable now, unfortunately.

@AnonymousBleep those European leaders are still talking about US security before this happens.

About 48 percent of Americans have passports, so not the majority, but not a tiny amount.

I didn't say 'a tiny amount'.

AnonymousBleep · 04/03/2025 14:03

Yes, he's capitulated. He's giving Putin what Putin wants. It's not a 'peace' deal (as the last thing it will lead to is peace) it's a 'surrender' deal.

We will never know what outcome diplomacy would have yielded. Mr Z bailed out before any real options presented. We just don’t know what could have been.

As the man said…. Mr Z didn’t have the cards last week, he has less cards now.

After the amount of hatred levelled at Trump over the last months I'm not surprised he has decided not to play the game any more.

Well deserved hatred

When will the US wake up to the fact that he's trampling over their laws and constitution?

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 04/03/2025 14:10

Shitmonger · 04/03/2025 13:43

It’s not surprising. After Zelenskyy directly threatened the US twice during the meeting, which immediately turned the tone and got him shut down by Trump and Vance, I was expecting this.

Zelenskyy’s threats seem to have made a lot of Americans change their minds about supporting him as well.

Very apt username you have there, do you get paid to peddle lies?

Personally, I think core Trump voters are generally as thick as shit. They wouldn't see it, and probably wouldn't care.

There must be other floating voters though who were taken in by his bullshit and are regretting their choice now that reality is starting to set in. There must be! Surely! Please tell me they don't all support this arsewipe unquestioningly!!! ☹️

They'll see it when all DOGE's 'efficiencies' directly affect them

BIossomtoes · 04/03/2025 13:58

I know. I paid towards that for 34 years of my working life. I wasn’t even born when it ended.

I wonder how much the USA paid back to the UK for sending troops to support them in Aghanistan post 9/11? I'd imagine it's a big fat nothing. Yet they bleat on as if the rest of the world is constantly ripping them off.

There will be no “US security”. Trump’s made that crystal clear, we all woke up to it this morning. There are some very stark choices to be made now.

Balloonhearts · 04/03/2025 14:13

Well presidents have been assassinated for less. We live in hope.

Same reason the english voted for brexit

Wales voted in favour. Try sneering accurately.

Vance as POTUS will be no better, probably worse if that's possible.

And the Democrats don't seem to have started looking for a new, intelligent, younger leader yet

Oh don't be silly. That meeting was a set-up designed to humiliate Zelenskyy. Pet journalists invited to ask the 'right' questions to embarass him, Vance bleating on about how Zelenskyy hadn't thanked the US for their over-inflated loans (which he has, countless times). It was cringeworthy to watch the POTUS and his weird little sidekick acting like bullies in the school playground. It's obvious that Trump always intended to pull military aid, and he wants Zelenskyy to resign because that will further destabilise Ukraine and make it easy for Putin to carry on his invasion. Which he will - why wouldn't he? The Russian economy currently depends on winning this war and expanding their territory.

He’s an absolute tw*t I wouldn’t usually say this about someone but that person that attempted to assassinate him and that other man got killed instead. That should have been Trump and the way he was celebrating afterwards because they weren’t successful. No condolences to the man’s family that died him and his brainwashed minions that voted for him absolutely disgust me.

Yup. Where's Luigi Mangione when the world really needs him?

He didn't 'bail out'. He was asked to leave the White House by Trump aides!

The Democrats are simply the other cheek of the same arse, as far as I could ever see.

Not sneering, but wasn't that vote essentially tipped by English retirees who had relocated to Wales?

I didn't say 'a tiny amount'.

The Americans & passports comparison is always pathetic.
Americans can ski, lie on a beach and everything in between with a driving lisc for ID. Why ski in Alps when you have Rockies closer & cheaper. Why go to Riviera when you have much better & cleaner beaches on both coasts.

It’s simple economics.

Do majority of Brits /Europeans travel in Europe for the cultural experiences? They have passports because they need one to leave!!.

It’s just some silly snobbish thing to say “even my grandparents have passport, most Americans don’t!” That’s because your grandparents need/needed a passport to go to Malaga …. American grandparents don’t need one for Florida!

Do we actually want a full on war with Russia ?

We are going to get nuked.

I for one, don't want a war. I'm not willing to die for Ukraine.

Reminds me of Chamberlain's attitude.

Bleekers · 04/03/2025 13:46

You make a lot of mind-reading assumptions. Trump capitulated… really?

Does any world leader, other than Mr Z, really want THEIR own troops on the ground in Ukraine.

I will mind read it for you … NO. Not one European country wants their citizens dead in Ukraine.

European leaders realise that if they don't support Ukraine then they are likely to need their own troops on the ground in there own country and that their citizens will be dead in their own country.

Have any of them made a statement along these lines on the understanding there's no US security?
