I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

Maybe I’m confusing the mineral deal with a peace plan… I got the impression that they were part of the same aim to bring the war to an end.

In my opinion one can support Zelenskyy and still want the war to end, which will inevitably involve compromises.
However the panorama programme seemed to suggest that Ukraine couldn’t win at this stage.

I also think the war needs to stop but not by just appeasing Russia in the way Trump is suggesting (i.e. let Russia keep the land it has invaded). That is not a solution as it rewards Russia for its illegal invasion and emboldens Putin to go further.

You must be aware of all the disinformation on this thread and when you posted your comment about Zelenskyy, his government and the "peace deal", I was asking for your source. Since I asked, I see that you have changed your statement to "minerals deal" rather than "peace deal", which significantly changes the meaning. My understanding is that no overall peace deal (which guarantees Ukraine's future security) has been proposed, and so of course Zelenskyy has not agreed to one. But he has said he would agree to a minerals deal IF it is part of a peace deal backed by security guarantees.

I think we are broadly of the same opinion here and have just misunderstood each other somewhat 😊
