AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

Ukraine war latest: US pauses military aid to Ukraine as EU chief says Europe is 'ready to step up'

Meanwhile, Russia says Donald Trump's move is "the best contribution to the cause of peace".

Ukraine will sign a mineral contract with the US which won't yield anything until 20 years from now, only if, US companies qualify to mine.

Trump the master strategist is set to sign the equivalent of a "maybe" by Ukraine. Trump gets to gloat and Ukraine gets ammunition.

Breaking Down the U.S.-Ukraine Minerals Deal

The United States and Ukraine reached a landmark agreement to jointly invest in Ukraine's critical minerals and resources. This deal, the first of its kind, highlights minerals in President Trump’s transactional diplomacy.

So, he lied then?

He said what he needed to say to get a weak and unpleasant narcissistic excuse for a man to do what he wanted. Do you really think strong people need to be flattered and told they are strong?

southerngirl10 · 04/03/2025 21:18

cardibach · 04/03/2025 21:13

No, I’m explaining why he said it.

Zelensky lied?

Zelensky lied?

Like Trump calling him a dictator

southerngirl10 · 04/03/2025 21:18

Zelensky lied?

He said something which everyone but Trump (and apparently some supporters of his) can see is nonsense. It’s not intended to deceive anyone but trump, who wants to be deceived.

Not a fan of the BBC (British Bullshi**ing Company), but even they have just run with a headline - Zelensky Willing To Work Under Trump's Strong Leadership.

Well done Zelensky. He knows a strong leader when he sees one!

He's a businessman who throws his dummy out the pram when don't get what he wants. Real politicians and presidents/government uses diplomacy. Trump is only in power for 4 years it's pointless fracturing the relationship we have with America it's all about future relationships. The American education system must have gone bust if all they can produce is Trump. Is there no one better? 😂

As usual, Trump is talking shite.

Indeed, the ever reliable 'BBC Verify', masterpieces of impartiality 🤔

Trump addressing congress 9 30pm our time. AP is broadcasting it on YouTube.

Wildflowers99 · 04/03/2025 21:31

Oh god, I’m dreading it.

Zelensky lied?

It’s called being diplomatic? Like Keir Starmer is, like all world leaders are (except the tangerine). Do you really think the King wants to be bothered with having to entertain someone who I’m sure he thinks is a little shit? Obviously not - this is how statesman and leaders on the world stage comport themselves in order to facilitate dignified dialogue around tricky issues. Except the orange knob…dummy that he is.

Oh go on then, give us your spotlessly impartial source, do.

Sunnierclime · 04/03/2025 21:32

This is all so alarming.

Politicians and commentators keep saying that these are historically momentous times. And I think about the school history lessons 100 years from now. How the characters of the people involved and the timeline of events will be discussed. And somehow I just can’t picture the ‘story’ ending with a minerals deal that restored peace in the West.

It just feels like the problems the world faces and the personalities and ambitions of the leaders are far too big to just settle down, even if we do get a ‘deal’.

I hope that things will all be resolves soon, but I have a horrible fear that they won’t.

countingthedays945 · 04/03/2025 21:34

From the country who love to tell us how great they are.

So great they have elected a Russian asset as president!

Petuniaspetal · 04/03/2025 21:35

Trumps strong leadership helped bring about a number of bankruptcies, which included a casino, which by most peoples standards is hard done.
The airline, the University, the construction business, all crashed under his strong leadership.

Anyway his current strong leadership is tanking the American economy and his popularity extra fast so there's that. 😁

Too lazy to look at the substance.
Too lazy to list preferred sources.
Not very surprising - or convincing.

Please post your neutral, verifiable, utterly impartial source then. Second time of asking.

newkettleandtoaster · 04/03/2025 22:14

I wouldn't be surprised to wake up to news of an assassination one day soon.

Putin or Trump.

valentinka31 · 04/03/2025 22:18

Update: Zelensky thought the same as me and is now recinding and has made a minerals deal with Trump.

Bless him, the only sensible option. :(

If he doesn't pop his clogs before then, let's not forget he's orange, and in his 80s. He doesn't look the picture of health either.

There's the small matter of the USA breaking the deal it made with Ukraine in promising its security in return for handing over its nuclear arsenal in 1994. But Trump isn't a man of his word, or anyone's word for that matter, is he?

I've tried to find evidence of this but I can only see that the nukes were destroyed, not given to the US (although the agreement still stands).

Psychostates · 04/03/2025 22:39

sleepwouldbenice · 04/03/2025 21:49

He doesn't have a choice, Trump has backed him into a corner. I like Zelensky, and feel he is doing his absolute best for Ukraine. Trump & Putin on the other hand are bullying dictators. And I cannot say what I think of Musk, and that other cretin who was disrespectful to the UK; (I forget his name) on here.
Honestly I agree with a poster further up who said it wouldn't surprise her to hear of an assignation. Wasn't there a near miss with his ear or something a while ago, and some thought that it may have been a publicity stunt?
