The tide is turning on Trump

  1. CNN now, poll shows majority of Americans disapprove of Trump.
  1. Commentator stated that Trump spoke about his several conversations with Putin and alarm bells ring, because Trump is parroting what Putin says. No independent thoughts?
  1. He comes over as having memory problems. He forgets what he said earlier.
  1. He needs help running press conferences and appears unable to manage without support.

Is he ill?

It's very odd.

Unless it was staged by Trump himself. And then use it as an excuse for purge. "To focus on enemy within" - it's Stalin's words.

This was a pretty unique skill to shot in the ear and not touch anything else. I don't believe for a second it was assasination.

Not touch anyone else apart from the person who died you mean?

He is such an orange c u n t
Now. Vance calling uk and France “random countries”. Such a tool

DUkraine is far more important than Gaza now. The entire structure of our planet just changed because of what Potus tweeted. All must be for DUkraine now including our GDPs.

🇺🇦💪🥰

I'm sorry but that's nonsense. There's enough food and aid in the world to help Gaza and Ukraine. I fully support sending aid to Ukraine but that doesn't mean we turn our back on the rest of the world.

Swiftie1878 · 04/03/2025 09:25

People said that about the IRA, and yet we managed to secure the Good Friday Agreement.
Of course negotiation needs to happen. The only questions are about what each side is prepared to ‘give’ in those talks.
The war cannot continue forever. Ukraine can’t fund it, and its allies either can’t or won’t continue to fill the gap forever.

It only took 700 days.

Imo we are doomed. Trump is a lunatic as is Putin. You can’t trust them and they have now aligned.

Ukraine will have to give Russia the part they want to buy time for Europe.

They don’t need America to negotiate their surrender. They need to surrender now.

He didn’t get voted in by the right, he got voted in by swing voters who looked at the democrats (who are still pretty right wing by European standards) with their luxury beliefs funded by the mega-rich being imposed on them including their kids in school, and their creeping censorship and then looked at Trump and decided he was the better option.

The right chose him as their candidate. They didn't have to do that. This is entirely on them.

As for those who voted for him... most of them were on the right. Yes, some will have been too stupid to understand what they were voting for, but Trump didn't make his fascist leanings a secret, so most of those who elected him would have known what he stood for.

Sorry, I do understand why people on the right are desperate to make this someone else's fault. I even understand why some on the left may try to claim responsibility, because it may give them a sense of control when everything is spiralling out of control.

But the fact is, fascism was not the inevitable outcome of people deciding that they had had enough of Biden. The Republicans could have played it another way. They chose not to. They are culpable.

babytunes · 04/03/2025 09:42

Trumps a legend. The man is bringing back plastic straws in the us, that alone makes me love him lol.
Anyway let's face it. If anyone can end the war in Ukraine it's trump.

Assassination!

Someone tried that, but as Trump himself has said, Gahd was protecting him.

"Every single day we hear another quote from Trump that is out of the mouth of the Kremlin"

Sounds like a movie, Putin is running the President.

Might he be a better option?
The problem with the American system is that it's almost impossible to remove a sitting President, Wilkes-Booth and Harvey Oswald excluded. Even if he were 'removed with force' then Vance follows and would that be better for the world or is he just licking Trump's boots until 2028?
Surely the Democrats are working on finding acceptable candidates for the mid-terms and for 2028.

You really don’t get it. The voters could have voted for Harris but didn’t.

No, they didn't.

But you're the one that really isn't getting it. The Republicans could have chosen a different candidate but didn't.

You're behaving as if the only alternative to a left leaning party is fascism.

Both should be supported but Ukraine is more strategically important for the West. The situation in Gaza is absolutely appalling but none of it represents a threat to Europe and the possibility of WW3 in the same way that the Ukraine situation does.

CaveMum · 04/03/2025 09:59

A recent poll of Republican voters said that 83% approve of Trump. However, 83% of them also disapprove of Putin and 69% of them think that Russia is a malign influence on the world.

(source today's TRIP US podcast cited these figures)

At this stage our only hope is a health crisis or, essentially, a coup which results in them invoking of the 25th Amendment. As Vance is nothing without Trump I can't see him turning on him unless something catastrophic happens and he gets a cast iron guarantee that they won't get rid of him too.

Of course if Trump and Elon fall out then the consequences could equally be epic.

BloominNora · 04/03/2025 09:59

Trump is nothing but a puppet - a media celebrity selected by Russia and the american right to be a standard bearer - he's not making any decisions. He's there as a distraction.

It's Heritage Foundation that are in charge and they are implementing Project 2025 - Russ Vaught is the Director of the OMB (which essentially runs the federal government) and he was one of the Project 2025 authors.

The Heritage Foundation love Musk and JD Vance has close links with them. The first term was about laying the groundwork - getting the judges in place, further gerrymandering the voting districts and ridding the republican party of sensible politicians and replacing them with the likes of Margorie Taylor Greene to make the take over easier in the second term (fully helped by Russia in getting all of the disinformation out there).

Trump was just the figure head who could whip people up and attract the voters - he is a means to and end for them to get into the White House. When something happens to him (whether health related or assassination), Vance will take over and he will be a thousand times worse.

I strongly suspect there will not be any further fair elections (there will be elections but they will be very much rigged) until it all comes falling down during a civil war.

I wouldn't be surprised if some states like California and New York start to look at seceding the union - whether they will actually be allowed to though is open to debate.

That would be the FBI who allowed someone to shoot at him despite being warned? I think I would purge then too.

Did they, though? Or was it all part of the plan and good TV?

PandaTime · 04/03/2025 10:03

America would rather have Putin as president than a woman.

The young fella who failed to assassinate Trump will be spinning in his grave right now.

You know what's even scarier, the person who will come after Putin will be even worse than he is.

I kinda regret having children now. What a world to bring them in to.

CaveMum · 04/03/2025 10:04

Those saying that voters knew what they were voting for when they ticked the box marked "Trump" are forgetting that (rightly or wrongly) most people (not just in the US) are not engaged with politics.

Many, many people will either have voted Trump because they always vote for the GOP candidate or because they saw a 30 second TikTok clip of Trump saying something reasonable sounding about resolving the cost of living crisis.

People who are engaged in politics look at things in detail, consult multiple media sources, etc. Most people are not engaged in politics.

Dominic Sandbrook summed it up perfectly on election night.

There is, but we have just turned our back on large parts of the world. People will die because we're removing funds from overseas aid and putting them into defence.

You may be right, but people who vote without bothering to engage are every bit as culpable as those who knowingly vote for a fascist leader. Ignorance/lack of interest is no excuse.

Yes, there are no doubt some people who are too stupid to understand what they're voting for even if they do engage. They cannot be blamed, but those who actively sought to manipulate them can.

I know. Has anyone said it is?

ETA - Do you mean the aid budget being diverted to defence? I'm not happy about it either but we clearly do need to up our security, and quickly.

BruhWhy · 04/03/2025 10:08

Opinion polls mean absolutely nothing. Impeachment means nothing. Rape accusations, nothing. Felonies, nothing. Trump really could walk down the street and shoot people and people would still love him. It's a rare and dangerous thing.

Trump and his ilk are like a boulder that's careening down the side of the mountain, the momentum has begun and there is nothing that can be done to reverse it now. I just hope people are content with what they end up with.
