Middle-aged professional women doing drugs on the weekend

Is this common now? I was invited to a house party Saturday night and snow was being done quite openly, there were also Mary Jane vapes and Ecstasy passed around.

These were mainly mothers with adult grown sensible families. What is going on, am I totally not with it?

Was it always this way or is this scene infiltrating a different demographic now?

We always knew people like this did this, but was it this open and accepted?

I didn’t partake, still a great night.

I find it really interesting that alcohol is practically a national pastime. Yet drugs taken recreationally, which time and time again have been proven to be not as harmful, are vilified. It’s a bizarre and uneducated position to take

Edited

Maybe compare the supply chains of prosecco and cocaine before deciding which is more harmful.

Deedeesharpwhatkindoflady · 03/03/2025 12:37

The cannabis is less harmful argument falls flat when considering innocent people have been caught up in gang warfare and been murdered.Liverpool shootings spring to mind.
Weed dealing in this country is big business not some stoner selling a bit to supplement his own puff habit.

TheIceBear · 03/03/2025 12:39

KatyaKabanova · 03/03/2025 12:35

I think you misunderstand.
I have explained that I was challenging a previous poster. I have had to have training and inform myself because of my line of work.
Don't believe it. Fine. Do your own research.

I don’t know where you received your training but it certainly hasn’t provided you with convincing arguments. I have researched thanks. Look how many cannabis related deaths are there every year in the uk compared to alcohol related ones for example

KatyaKabanova · 03/03/2025 12:39

@Mielikki and @Deedeesharpwhatkindoflady
Very good points.

Mrsbloggz · 03/03/2025 12:40

Alcohol is very harmful, the ratio of toxicity to in toxicity is particularly bad.
However trying to ban it would be fruitless, it's occurs spontaneously in nature, anyone can make it for themselves!
Cannabis is also pretty easy to grow, ditto opium poppies I expect, although I've not tried them but I do remember a friend telling me that she had smoked opium from an opium poppy.

People growing their own small amounts for personal use doesn’t harm anyone. Plus it’s legal in many countries now. This makes your argument fall flat.

That's not an argument against cannabis, that's an argument against prohibition of cannabis!

I have not provided you with a convincing argument? Read my posts. I haven't provided you with data or extensive training, either.
For the 4th time - I was challenging a poster. Not giving you my doctoral thesis.
I'm sure that you are capable enough to consult evidenced and peer reviewed articles., as I have.

I read a book called Kilo,it follows the process from leaf to powder and it's journey before exportation.
It destroys eco structure, destroys villages, murder, torture, prostitution.
It's not a victimless process.

If you think I have no experience of this then you are wrong. You have stomped onto this thread aggressively assuming you are the only person on mumsnet with any real life experience. You are wrong. If you are happy with your life and the way you have decided to learn it crack on. Nobody is stopping you. However if yoh think you can make people stop voicing their own opinions by shouting them down and being aggressive, think again. That may work with some people. It doesn’t work with me.

I haven't been aggressive or assumed I'm the only one with no experience? Where have I been aggressive. You've been quite aggressive if anything on this thread a lot of your comments are just you trying to guilt trip middle aged woman who enjoy the occasion line of coke because "young boys being exploited" all I've said is most of those "young boys" know exactly what they're doing that's why the age of criminal responsibility is 10 and half of them would attack you for looking at them.

I mean of course you're right buying drugs does encourage the drug trade but if you think bitching about how middle aged professional woman should refrain from enjoying the occasional line of a week end is going to make up for all the actual addicts buying heroin multiple times a day then idk what to say.

Of course there's fucked up shit going on in the world because of the drug trade but you're going to have a hard time convincing me to feel sorry for teenage boys doing "county lines" when I became a mother at 15, most of those kids know exactly what they're doing and aren't all cute and innocent just my opinion which you keep wanting to shout down 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well prohibition isn't going anywhere in the UK.
Doesn't alter the fact a little girl was murdered over the heads of cannabis and money.

The problems that you describe are due to the fact that cocaine use is prohibited.

Cannabis is legal in the UK and easy to obtain.

You keep reminding me you were talking to another poster. I don’t care. Regardless of how many peer reviewed articles you have read, It’s pointless comparing 1 joint to 1 glass of wine. You may as well compare 1 bottle of wine to 1 or 2 puffs of a spliff. It’s all relative.

Don't be so stupid
Weed is illegal in the UK.
I'm a former amphetamine user of 20 years,it was easy to obtain didn't make it legal.

Very easy to score some weed legally in the UK 😎

Cheese is another street name for Monkey Dust. V popular in Stoke apparently

I do believe the poster meant actual cheese though. 😆
Surely anyone in midlife can relate to the cheese addiction rather than the illegal stuff?

Personally I would leave a party if coke/ E’s were handed around - would bring me awful flash backs of witnessing friends get off their faces Back in the day.

I worked in mental health at the time and my predictions of some of my friends psychological outcomes were text book sadly. Drug taking is one topic I'm very judgmental about.

It's all relative, indeed. It does make for a fascinating, if depressing area of study, though. Addicts come from all socio economic groups it seems to me, but the young county lines couriers are some of the worst cases I've come across.
That's only my personal experience, which you may discount. Of course.

Explain your hippy theory to the mother whose little girl was shot and killed.
