I feel USA are going to lift sanctions against Russia and increase Russian trade. Russia is running out of money. I agree Russia and USA would like Zelensky to step aside. The force teaming of USA and Russia is rotten.

Pairymoppins · 04/03/2025 07:26

I’m probably very dumb but I don’t get it as a power play. USA now imposes tariffs on China - so basically pitching against everyone except Russia?

I'm sure someone will come along to say I'm a bot or something but I have no connections to either the US, Ukraine or Russia

New to MN. 12 posts. Three of which are attempting to minimise what happened in that meeting. Why on earth would anyone call you a bot?

Ha ha ha - not new at all. But I name change at least once a month. Been on since Covid times...

With as much proof for this statement as Trump has for any of his. 😏

Can't stand Trump and don't get me started on JD. BUT, did everyone here see the whole 40-45 minutes of the meeting?

I'd say that Zelenskyy could have done with an interpreter as how he come across was a bit abrasive and it was as if he wasn't really focusing. He had been advised to wear a suit and how to treat trump but didn't heed the advice. Of course he must have been frustrated with Trump for calling him a dictator. Trump's a narcissist and would have hated to have been corrected in public.

Trump speaks in hyperbole and inaccuracies but sometimes there is a grain of truth. E.g. the press freedom in Ukraine has deteriorated more recently and there was that case of Z having offshore accounts (proven - Pandora papers) so maybe Trump put these together and in typical hyperbole called him a dictator. Which is a ridiculous and cruel comment to someone involved in a terrible conflict, but there we have it.

Trump siding up to Putin is presumably also a deal tactic, right? Getting him on his side so that he has more leverage when it comes to the final deal?

Of course the end of the meeting last week can't be excused, two bully toddlers in Trump and JD Vance. But Zelenskyy definitely could have played it different in the run up to the clip that most people have seen.

I'm sure someone will come along to say I'm a bot or something but I have no connections to either the US, Ukraine or Russia. Just find it frustrating when everything gets polarised, whatever side we're looking at (and I'd describe myself more as a Democrat if nothing else).

Edited

We've all seen it, the whole thing has been shown numerous times in Britain, and from what I gather, every country that's not a Russian satellite state.

It doesn't change anything, Trump sill looks like a deranged knobhead, Vance like a piece of shit and the Americans backing them like a bunch of back stabbing, untrustworthy arseholes.

Corneliafunk · 04/03/2025 08:17

Agree - I am just waiting now for the US to lift sanctions on Russia 😔. I hope Europe has got its plans made for when that happens and that the US population will do something about the Putin propagandist they have installed in the WH.

Inmydreams88 · 04/03/2025 08:20

US pulling funding from Ukraine was 100% planned by Trump long before he was elected. That was his plan all along. Anyone could see it a mile off if you listened to what he said or didn’t say. Never a bad word about Putin, saying he wanted to leave NATO.

MAGA are cheering this on like he’s some
kind of saviour who only wants peace and to save people but he doesn’t give a shit about people dying. Withdrawing support from Ukraine will only make it easier for Russia, and why would they stop at Ukraine. This could lead to the UK going to war. This is bad for us I think.

I’m not actually sure if he can just leave NATO without a state wide vote, but I think he’s going to try.

Yep. No one is buying Farage's rhetoric on this, which pp seems to be repeating. Or the attempts to smear Zelenskyy. The same stuff is being trotted out on SM about corruption, coke etc. with no evidence.

The no suit thing is just absurd. Musk struts around the OO in a baseball cap and jeans. Trump himself seems unable to find a decent tailor. But then again, his shape is hard to dress.

I’m probably very dumb but I don’t get it as a power play. USA now imposes tariffs on China - so basically pitching against everyone except Russia?

I have got to admit that even accounting for lunacy on the part of Trump, I am struggling to see the play. I have always thought that Trump was as much a puppet as anything, with some powerful interests in the shadows ensuring he didn't go too far in damaging American interests. But if that is the case, then they have lost the plot, or lost control (in which case I foresee a marksman with better aim in the near future).

If one was to assume that there is an interest in aligning with Russia - and that itself is hard to see unless Trump is indeed a Russian agent - then his actions still make no sense. He is alienating two massive countries on his borders, he is alienating his European allies, and demonstrating to the entire of the rest of the world that they can put no trust or confidence in the United States.

So he pulls the US out of NATO - a short-term negative issue for (mainly) Europe, and costly - but in the medium /long term offering the potential of even closer relationships, economic as well as military between a new "NATO alliance" whilst freezing the USA out. Meanwhile China continues to quietly expand its power and influence across the world through economic invetsment and trade. And what does the USA end up with? An alliance with a politically and economically moribund country and nothing more. What this is setting up is two massive blocs of economic and military power against an isolated and isolationist USA, with even those on the "sidelines" being reluctant to trust in or deal with the USA. Trump has torn up the US "special relationship" with every country they ever had one with (not that it was ever worth much) and replaced it with a relationship of no value to the USA, with a partner you can't trust as far as you can throw them.

Frankly, on the performance of the last several weeks, I would, in Trumps shoes, stay away from grassy knolls...

Bollindger · 04/03/2025 11:20

I Knew Zelensky had an agenda...
He said no deal of peace talks unless he was allowed to join .NATO
No wonder Trump and JD were mad , it was not the agreed deal.

He got told no, so has been stiring up EU.

He really seems to be willing to fight till he kills Millions....
How will parents feel when Stammer sends our troops to die, when it could have been avoided...

EmmaMaria · 04/03/2025 12:07

@Bollindger Of course Zelensky has an agenda. He has been banging on about it for years. He wants foreign countries to stay on their side of the border and not launch military attacks against his country. It's pretty much the same agenda most leaders of states have in respect of their borders...Oddly, he seems to be under the impression that Russia can't be trusted to know where their borders lie, on account of how "lost" their military keep getting.

What is MAGA here? I can't stand Trump but I do find it deeply concerning that people are so black and white with everything.

Of course I want the support from the US for Z and Ukraine but I'm just explaining how I think Trump may have been thinking and are thinking. Not saying it is right.

I'm not saying I'd be different in how I spoke to Trump and Z is in his full right to be outraged by what Mr T said BUT sadly, diplomacy x 100 is clearly needed with Trump even if he and JD don't reciprocate.

Shutting people down for their views and opinions is very dictatorial btw!

Good try,yeah sure you’re a democrat. 🙄

Like most people I watched the whole of it including the part when Zelenskyy told him about the abducted Ukrainian children and showed him photos of the suffering. Trump couldn’t have given less of a shit.

Trump and Co were diabolical from start to finish, Zelensky, deserves a sainthood for how well he tolerated it and no he couldn’t have handled it any differently aside from walking out.

As I said, atrocious behaviour but Z should have had an interpreter. What Trump expect from other is not what he expects from himself, sadly, but that is the sad reality, isn't it?

Read the Sunday Times (for those who don't know the ST is a well respected investigative broadsheet) on some of the issues in the run up. Clearly Trump is a narcissist with an agenda and bullish approach that is not fit for state leadership BUT that doesn't mean that Z is perfect. He's clearly exhausted, understand that, he and his people have been brave. But of course he could have played it differently. Or, if he really didn't agree, should have just rearranged and not turned up.

Trump is that kind of person - unfortunately - who just can't take criticism in public (or at all!).

ForestAtTheSea · 04/03/2025 15:13

Good overview on the amount of support for Ukraine, broken down into financial, military and humanitarian, by country.
Also there are statistics on which percentage of GDP the countries contribute (Estonia has the highest value) and comparison between the US and all EU states taken together.

"The Reform UK leader and Trump ally said the U.S. president was “incredibly old-fashioned” about people’s clothing in the Oval Office"
from your link

I really don't know how many times people have to point out that he does not apply that rule to Elon Musk. I think thousands of people have now been saying it for three days straight.

And so many things that are claimed by Trump & Co are easily disproven, why does everyone keep on shilling lies. What's the game behind Farage's moves?

Exactly. What's behind this excuses, excuses.

Sanctions just now on Canada and Mexico and China. Both former have retaliated against US with their own.
This is absolute madness!
Talks of Trump trying to weaken Canada so they can be annexed...
