Absolutely this - it brought a tear to my eye (and looks like it did for Zelensky too). His poor exhausted face smiling at the warm reception he was getting.

I loathe boris for the brexit mess but what he did for Ukraine in the early days of war can not be downplayed. He was the first foreign leader to offer support and other countries followed suit. Regardless of his motives, he did a great thing for Ukraine to boost the morale and they will never forget this.
This comes directly from my Ukrainian friends and family.

Yes I agree. Not a fan of Bojo but his support for Ukraine was unquestionable. I was mildly amused when he helicoptered himself into Kyiv during the thick of the earlier fighting, I think he was the first foreign leader to visit.

Not really. It would only be hypocritical if we still had an empire or were trying to regain one. Or if we were telling Ukraine our assistance was dependent on the promise of mineral rights.

The numbers quoted by Trump and Co, as to the value of the support given, are wildly different from official figures . He's also trying to change the terms of the historical support saying he wants it back? This is ignoring the additional idea that money has gone missing...

He's trying to use all these points to insist on a mineral deal. But really without any future help re arms, security guarantee etc, why should the deal be signed at all? Ever? Or even part of a deal ie smaller numbers?

I know the reality is that Europe willing nations don't have the power to provide full security. But really how can the US simultaneously say Europe needs to do so, but also they will have the.minerals? Not on any planet do I understand this!

Of course, the US does have form for “helping” countries, then exploiting their resources for them. It liberated Iraqis from Saddam, after all, then the likes of Kellogg Brown & Root and Halliburton were awarded all sorts of lucrative contracts to fuck things up still further.

I agree with this, Trump needs to pull it back a bit so that he doesn’t alienate the entire Western world and so he still stands a chance with the whole Nobel peace prize thing. I also don’t think he really wants to be only allied with Putin- they both know they can’t trust the other.

It looks like the latest is Mandelson has said go and sign the deal. Nothing changed on it.
