To be jealous of everyone getting slim in weight loss jabs while I get fatter !

Sundayslump · 02/03/2025 08:18

Okay - lighthearted ? Maybe.

I’ve been lucky to grow up and be a size 10 . Had a baby at 27. Lost all the weight but my body changed. Baby 2 , again gained 4 stone but I’ve always kept the last stone. I am now 12/14 uk.

I work full time and have two children . I eat healthy for the most part and walk and exercise. When I am super strict which feels so much harder at 40 I am a size 12 but unlike in my 30s it seems so much harder to lose weight now . I feel crap in my clothes and I wish and dream of being a size 10. Call me pathetic !

My brother and his wife , twos sisters and their husbands , work colleagues and a few of my good friends who were never obese but had a few stone to lose are all taking weight loss jabs. They have all lost around 2/3/4 stone and are all now looking fab . All the women are now in size 8 jeans and I am jealous. I sound pathetic . None of these ladies were any bigger than a 14/16 to start with.

I totally understand these jabs are so life changing for so many people who need them but it seems in my life everyone has taken them and gone from a 14/16 to a size 8/6 size Uk and I can’t help but feel like if I just bloody jump on the bandwagon I will feel good, feel happy and be slim.

Now everyone around me is so slim I feel ever more aware of my size .

I want to state I exercise and do eat a healthy diet . I have just found after two babies and getting older unless I basically stick to 1200 calories a day I can’t maintain a size 12.
Ahhhhhh. Sorry for sounding so so so vain.

It's great to hear how life changing its been for lots of people on this thread!

I'm one of those that was always fairly slim size 10/12 until perimenopause. Now I'm a 14 and when I read threads like this I do start to wonder if it could be an option for me. It's like that with Botox too. But, then I think about would I be happy for my daughter to take medication if not strictly necessary or use injectables when she's older, and if I'm honest I wouldn't want her to.

myhorseforaring · 02/03/2025 09:20

I feel the same OP. I am too scared of the side effects to take the jabs. I love food. But boy do I just want to be slim. I would love to be a 10. I hate how I look. I hate my fat wobbly body. I'm uk 14 bottom 12 on top.

JZ1987 · 02/03/2025 09:21

I am in the exact same boat! In 2021-2023: Only gymming 8h a week and a 1400 cal diet (6 days a week) maintains my size 12 at 70kg.

I let go of the strict 2y regime in Jan 2024, last year for frustration of not being able to lose any more and ended up for the last 2y only doing gym for just 3h a week and eating chocolate whenever I want it etc and now I’m a 14 again, back to 80kg again and feeling rubbish, not just because of aesthetics but because I know it feels unhealthy being this big, BMI overweight borderline obese and I’m a 12 ontop, a 14 on bottom!

I want to try jabs too but I’m worried as I know some people can have life risking side effects from them. Wish my dr could prescribe them to help maintain a better body weight and therefore be less risk into the nhs as I get older/ have a better life in the long run. I don’t think they do this unless you’re mega obese? I don’t know…

Yes it is so frustrating.

StormyPotatoes · 02/03/2025 09:22

OP, your friends and family had to weigh up the exact same options before taking them and the made the choice to give WLI a go. It’s ridiculous to be envious as you are free to make the exact same choice.

MumBrain23 · 02/03/2025 09:24

Sundayslump · 02/03/2025 08:57

Okay , thanks all for replies and experiences. It just all just seems abit too good to be true ? But I guess the only way for me to know is to try it . Then if I don’t like it I would stop! I guess it is like Botox. You can get it or not. I will reframe my jealousy and say-
i want to take weight loss jabs as i really want to be slim but I’m nervous about side effects !

Edited

OP, AstraZeneca is working on a weight loss pill with Eccogene that won’t have as many side effects, will be cheaper, offer less dramatic weight loss and will be safe enough to take long term. The only catch is that it comes out in the next 2 years.

Also, you can’t really take Mounjaro or Wegovy for only a month, you’ll regain the weight after stopping it and your appetite will compensate for it by revving up.

Can you not do a test for diabetes and find out if you’re at least prediabetic? Then gain some weight to have a BMI if 27.5? I’m guessing you must have a BMI of 26 at the moment?

Then stay on a low dose for 6 months- long enough for your body to get used to the medication and rewire your brain about food?

No need to be jealous- Ive heard they work by making you feel sick, it's not nice.

Well you heard wrong. That's not how they work at all.
Nausea can be an unpleasant side effect for some people. But not for everyone and it certainly isn't the function of the drug.

Jins · 02/03/2025 09:25

Sundayslump · 02/03/2025 08:51

Super drug

  1. Complete a short medical questionnaire
  2. Highlight a preferred treatment
  3. Doctor reviews your answers and notes your preferred treatment

It seems as easy to order as shampoo

It took me nearly an hour to complete the questionnaire from my provider. They needed a photo of me as said before, screenshots of my acute and repeat medications, details of medical conditions and how well controlled they are, any history of eating disorders etc. I had to dig out the date of my gall bladder surgery and summarise recovery. It was more thorough than some appointments I’ve had in hospital.

I’m BMI 27+ with relevant health conditions, maybe it’s different for BMI 30+ but it certainly didn’t feel as easy as buying shampoo 😆

arcticpandas · 02/03/2025 08:45

I am tempted to get the jabs as well. But with a bmi of 20 I don't think I can get them even if I pay for them? I just feel it's a pain to be hungry and have to eat. I rather eat when I want to without being hungry as it seem you can on mounjaro. Like if I'm hungry at 11 I just have to eat, I can't wait until 12-13 which is a bummer if you're invited somewhere. With Mounjaro this wouldn't be an issue so I'm jealous, yes.

I'm taking mounjaro and have lost 1 stone 3 lbs in 7 weeks. I've had some side effects but so far so good. I have another 6 stone to go. Mounjaro is life changing for me. I'm paying for it and had bloods taken before starting.
People with a BMI of 20 being jealous is ridiculous and is one of the reasons the jabs get such bad press.
Mounjaro isn't a magic bullet that does all of the work but it is a wonderful tool for those who really need it.

Dogsbreath7 · 02/03/2025 09:26

squidgymum · 02/03/2025 08:48

Thats not true, its different for everyone. I eat 1600 calories for weight loss and its plenty when on MJ.

It will depend on your starting weight, height TDEE.

in the UK the vast majority of women are short 5’5” or less. So 1200/1300 is about right. You need 500 calorie a day deficit. Age comes into it as well.

northernballer · 02/03/2025 09:26

I know how you feel!

I have to work so hard to stay a size 10 at 47, I'm basically always thinking about food. I do love sport so that helps, but I see people who were always much bigger than me super slim because of the jabs and the irrational side of me is jealous I can't get them and drop a stone to go back to a size 6/8.

The rational part of me knows that is ridiculous and I would much rather be slim without jabs but there we are, the brain isn't always rational. I would also never say this in real life :-)

MinnieCoops · 02/03/2025 09:27

WhyDidPunxutawneyPhilHaveToSeeHisShadow · 02/03/2025 09:00

I'm a size 20-22 and no doubt would qualify.
But sulphur burps? Reflux? Diarrhoea? Nausea?
Erm...no ta. I can do without making my life even more joyless.

I didn't have any of those. It's not a given that you'll have any side effects at all. Loads on the threads on here have had none either.

Teateaandmoretea · 02/03/2025 09:27

OP can totally relate. But the thing is I’ve never really had a weight problem - I just like food too much and eat too much of it. I downloaded a calorie counting app mid Jan and feel much better for it already. My clothes fit better, I look better and I feel better. So Ozempic has done me a favour. Injecting myself with drugs on balance really doesn’t appeal to me and I feel sorry for the people who have to resort to that. Anyone who does it to get into size 8 jeans frankly has mental health issues.

Overhaul54 · 02/03/2025 09:27

I'm on them with the same issues you have Op. Everyone else is on them.
Sadly Mounjaro has done zilch for either appetite or binge drinking.
I'll carry on until the end of the month ( there's 4 doses in a pen) but won't bother with more.

I found Fast 800 worked really well. However I lack the motivation to start ( it's super easy once you get over the initial first few days). I hoped the jab would help but seems not.

Picklepower · 02/03/2025 09:27

Try the glucose goddess method. I was one of those 'i can only eat 1200 cals a day or a I gain weight'. Turns out I was insulin resistant and lost 3kg in a month by changing the way I eat not what I eat

Figgygal · 02/03/2025 09:28

Missing the point but wtf is food noise?

i always get given much higher than that because I’m very tall. The height of ‘most women’ is irrelevant at individual level.

hennybeans · 02/03/2025 09:29

I don't think anyone has spelled it out clearly here that to get the WLI you need a bmi of 30, or 27 with a related health condition like high blood pressure/cholesterol, etc. It is a prescribed medication, even when you buy it online.

They are for treating the disease of obesity ( it is classified as a disease). Studies have shown most people regain the weight when they stop the medication.

Jennaveeve · 02/03/2025 09:30

I felt the same, so I’m starting the jabs. Life is too short to spend it unhappy in your body.

2.5mg is not a therapeutic dose, it's just to get your body used to the medication. Many people don't start seeing the benefit until moving up through the doses.

Hence this being a long term drug to treat serious weight problems, not a quick fix to drop a dress size.

MinnieCoops · 02/03/2025 09:31

Gettingbysomehow · 02/03/2025 09:16

I was 5 stone overweight. I'm just taking the jabs. I've never felt so good. I had to buy a new wardrobe. They've changed my life.

The new wardrobe feels wonderful, fitting into an 8 is such an amazing feeling

MikeRafone · 02/03/2025 09:33

what exercise are you doing and how many hours out of the week (in what is a busy life) are you completing exercise?

Sundayslump · 02/03/2025 09:33

Dogsbreath7 · 02/03/2025 09:20

Can we be clear OP that you are not eligible for these drugs- you need BMI 30+ or 27 with health conditions.

Your relatives are taking a risk with their health and must be acquiring the drugs illegally if that’s what you want to do, go for it but why discuss it here?

you do realise how whiny you come across? ‘ I was always size 8 now I can’t stay at size 12’. Read the room. UK has an obesity problem. The people taking weight loss drugs for genuine reasons would love to GET TO SIZE 12. And some people have serious health conditions which make it even more challenging to lose weight.

Get thee to a gym do weights, up protein drop carbs. Or be happy in your size 12/14 body.

From someone who was never ever ever size 8 and post menapause/ childbirth expanded to size 18.

Okay so I want to say. My siblings are getting the jabs from Superdrug. No illegally. If they are lying about their statistics then I wouldn’t be suprised.
Ive had anorexia, bulimia which flared up awfully whilst pregnant . I spend all day abs every day thinking about food. I hate my body. So yes I might sound pathetic and maybe I should read the room but going to the gym and eating less is not fixing me . So maybe you could stop being judgemental and rude.

5128gap · 02/03/2025 09:34

If you really are 'basically sticking to 1200 calories a day' and doing that amount of excercise, at 40 you would be more likely to be underweight, so something isn't right. You are sticking to 1200 calories, so clearly you are able to resist the food noise, so its not injections you need. I'd be going to the GP for tests in your shoes, because yes, wright loss gets harder, but on that number of calories with a lot of excercise, if all was well you couldn't help but lose weight. I'm post menopause, and can eat 1600 a day and lose weight with that level of activity.

That’s what I was thinking! You have to have to be obese to have them prescribed at all, even privately, and then think about the pros and cons.
For many it’s not about looking good, it’s about reversing something that is now affecting health and mobility. So benefits outweigh risks.
