To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

OP posts:
claudiaswinklemen · 01/03/2025 09:40

If it means I could bring my children up in a country that was not being ripped apart by war
If it meant not having to send my partner off to fight and never see him again
If it meant that I could live a life that I wanted to live them yes I would let the Americans mine the rare earth from the country

You're deluded,
In the occupied territories your children have been stolen and sent to Russia. You and your female friends have been raped. Your husband and his mates have been tortured. Your belongings have been stolen and your home given to a loyal Russian family.
Thats Putin’s peace.

LeticiaMorales · 01/03/2025 09:40

Yes we should, time to forget about the Yanks and move on.

You've proven to be no friend of the UK or Europe.

The thing is, Ukraine had a security guarantee. It was the Budapest Memorandum. From Wikipedia

The Ukranians have been betrayed by the USA.

The memoranda, signed in Patria Hall at the Budapest Convention Center with U.S. Ambassador Donald M. Blinken amongst others in attendance,[3] prohibited Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and France from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, "except in self-defence or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations." As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.[4][5]
Russia breached the Budapest memorandum in 2014 with its annexation of Ukraine's Crimea.[6][7] As a response, the US, UK and France provided Ukraine with financial and military assistance, and imposed economic sanctions on Russia, while ruling out "any direct interventions to avoid a direct confrontation with Russia"

I can support Ukraine and want peace in Ukraine

No country is going to enter the war to support Ukraine

Ukraine can not push Russia back out the country

The war needs to end

Can you answer Zelensky's question

" Zelensky: “But during 2014 till 2022 the situation was the same, that people are been dying on the contact line. Nobody stopped him. You know that we had conversations with him, a lot of conversations, my bilateral conversation, and we signed with him. Me like a new president in 2019 I signed with him. The deal I signed with him, Macron and Merkel. We signed ceasefire, ceasefire. All of them told me that he will never go. We signed him with gas contract... but after that, he broken the ceasefire He killed our people, and he didn't exchange prisoners we signed the exchange of prisons but he didn't do it. What kind of diplomacy, JD, are you talking about. What do you mean?"

Robert Reich, the former US secretary of labor, is calling the USA-Russian alliance the axis of evil

Agree - trump is getting in to bed with the despots- russia where all the world's nutcases like ashad run to, friends of north Korea and China it truly is an axis of evil -.and deranged evil in some cases

Waterweight · 01/03/2025 09:41

But did you remember to thank trump during the thought you had while watching that car crash meeting 😂

OP it's very important to say thank you

Your post OP is one of the most concerning I have read in over 21 years on MN , I am relieved to see there is not much support for your view point on here and hope a few of the votes supporting you hit the wrong button my mistake.

My thoughts are with the Ukrainian people and but also for those in the US who don’t support Trump and watched this thinking WTF is happening to my country.

@Donotpanicoknowpanic

This.

Most concerning

Stepfordian · 01/03/2025 09:41

The only way this war can end is for Ukraine to take back all of its territory. Putin will not abide by any peace deal or ceasefire, he will carry on attacking Ukraine until it falls and then he will move on to the next country, raping and murdering civilians and stealing children as he goes.

Putin has to be stopped, any other option will just see the start of WW3.

NamechangeRugby · 01/03/2025 09:41

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

What is the USA going to do when Russia challenges the mineral rights the USA think a signature is all going to make tickety-boo and theirs?

From that point on America and Russia are in a direct head to head when they don't agree. And what are the chances of them agreeing over the spoils?

In the rush for peace and greed for resources, be very careful of your bed fellows. Past performance may be an excellent indication of future performance.

I am referring more to the underlaying message rather than the way it was delivered

Whichever finishing school they went to, there parents should ask for a refund

That is not the point I'm making

You also need to go back to school, for spelling and punctuation.

IsawwhatIsaw · 01/03/2025 09:42

I suspect the meeting between Trump and Putin was paving the way for a second Molotov Ribbentrop type pact. Agreed non aggression agreement and division of smaller nations for their mutual interests.

But Putin was already emboldened by his annexation of Crimea over a decade ago. Europe and the US did nothing then.

Thisandthatandthensome · 01/03/2025 09:42

Thank you thank you thank you

Take my rare minerals.
Let Putin take bits of the country.

Thank you thank you

Oh and I'll buy a suit

Why isn't Trump pressuring Putin to withdraw, but is pressuring Ukraine to capitulate? Why do you think he's right in doing so? And you believe Putin and Trump are going to be satisfied with whatever they get and will want no more?

Wildflowers99 · 01/03/2025 08:08

He was nothing but a bully and that prick Vance is a disgrace.

If you cannot understand why conceding to Russia isn’t a long term peace solution then I cannot help you.

Exactly this. This is one of those moments when you have to decide whether you’re a Halifax or a Churchill.

Anyone who thinks appeasement is the way to handle Putin needs to go back to school and actually learn something. The ONLY message that Putin understands is a good kicking. The ONLY way to stop his behaviour is for him to get absolutely nothing from the Ukraine war. If he gets anything from this war, the Baltic states will be next. The 1930s references are very very relevant.

ablut · 01/03/2025 09:42

Ellmau · 01/03/2025 09:09

Do you think world war 2 could have been prevented by sitting down and talking to Hitler?

Neville Chamberlain did...

Yes.

There are many differences between the circumstances, but of course the 1930s offer us an almost exact parallel in the sense that imperialistic agression will need finally to be faced head on. Sadly.

Of course the defeat of the Axis powers needed America back then. Can we (Europeans, that is) manage without them now, in counteracting Putin's Russia? We probably will have to try, Brexit notwithstanding.

O tempora ... (Or, perhaps just "Aaargh!")

He just wants to steal the minerals

There is nothing in it for Ukraine

And if you think he'll stop there...

The thing is,in this digital SM age, people think if they've heard something consistently several times it must be true. There's a lack of critical thinking and a preponderance of echo chambers due in part to the use of algorithms.

Nanny0gg · 01/03/2025 09:44

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 09:02

Ukraine is in a bad position and ideally everyone would live in peace

But the answer to your question is yes

If it means I could bring my children up in a country that was not being ripped apart by war

If it meant not having to send my partner off to fight and never see him again

If it meant that I could live a life that I wanted to live them yes I would let the Americans mine the rare earth from the country

And who knows I could even get a job at the rare earth mines

Yes some of the wealth will go to America but some will stay in Ukraine

This money could be used to rebuild Ukraine

And let Russia in by the front door!

How naive can you possibly be?

Trump is firmly in Putin's pocket

Viviennemary · 01/03/2025 09:44

I think Trump was rude and disrespectful. But the point is if America continues to support Ukraine they are more or less at war with Russia. But if Russia takes over Ukraine Russia will get the rare minerals not Trump. It's pretty grim thatTrump is looking at the whole thing as a business deal with the US getting the booty.

Pumpkincozynights · 01/03/2025 09:44

Bottom line is: many, many leaders as history has shown do not want peace. It’s totally fine for them because Putin, the same as Hitler or Stalin to name leaders off the top of my head, do not put themselves or their family at risk. Do you thing Putin’s close relatives are crawling through the streets with a gun in their hand being shot at?
It’s the same with suicide bombers. The leaders at the top do not strap a bomb to their chest and blow themselves up, they get some other low ranking ordinary person to do it.
Trump does not care about saving lives. He says whatever comes into his head. He might claim he cares about the lives of ordinary Americans but a quick search will invalidate that. Just look at who he has appointed as his health advisor. A man who is an anti vaxer.
A man who is cancelling vaccine contracts. A man who will stop people from obtained vaccines to protect their lives.
Look at his health care policy. He is not about to provide decent health care for any of the US citizens. He is not their to preserve life.
He is quite frankly, like Putin, a maniac. A convicted sex pest.
He talks about his hatred for immigrants yet he himself is an immigrant, not to mention his wife.
I have no idea why people cannot use critical thinking.
I am opposed to the use of guns but quite frankly whilst watching that appalling meeting between Z, T & V, I would had welcomed someone putting a bullet through the heads of both T & V. It would do the world a favour.

Araminta1003 · 01/03/2025 09:45

I do not think Trump is right except about the fact that we all need peace. And peace has to come as a deal that is fair to everyone, in an objective manner, so it is sustainable long term.

Edited

I think he's agreed some sort of carve up of Ukraine with Putin.

What does Trump mean by "we gave you sheets"?

Obama gave non lethal assistance (night vision goggles, body armour , training, movement vehicles) while Trump gave lethal military equipment in his first presidency.

I had no idea that was "sheets".
