To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

I am referring more to the underlaying message rather than the way it was delivered

Whichever finishing school they went to, there parents should ask for a refund

That is not the point I'm making

I disagree.

We should never appease to an aggressor. He'll want more and more.

When germany invaded poland, did they stop there?

I think we need to attack putin.

When you say "we need to attack Putin", who do you mean by we? Do you honestly think European countries are prepared to send their armies in? More to the point really, would you be happy to head out to the frontline? Or would you be ok with your young relatives being conscripted and sent out?

Because that is effectively what you're asking for. It's easy to be courageous when it's not you or your loved ones facing being slaughtered every day. It's not a game of soldiers.

Putin has consistently denied Ukraine's right to exist as an entity.

Has made several speeches on this... similar views on the Baltic states.

Why do you think that is?

I said that there was nothing to suggest that he wants to attack the rest of Europe. What you have said appears to support this.

Zelensky was argumentative and ungrateful. I also find his lack of wearing a suit disrespectful, fair enough his attire is fine in a war zone but he is in the White House. The war needs to end, they have tried their best to beat Russia with 100’s of billions £ of donated weapons and it’s a stalemate. How many of these posters would be happy for their sons to die on the battlefield.

I think this is a clear example of that thing we can't talk about.
Zelenski has nothing to say "thank you for". We should all be thanking him because Ukrainians are dying resisting a Russian occupation so we don't have to.
The only thing that was offered to him was giving half of his country to Russia and the other half to the US. I wish he would have been more direct and call Putin and Vance what they are, Russian agents.

Would you put boots on the ground? Would any Western European country do this? Very much doubt that you would

I'm not sure if you mean on a personal level but, in case you do, yes, I would put boots on the ground. I would have done so in 2014 and I would allow Ukraine to use our weapons to target whatever they wish in Russia, just as Russia has done to them. Probably why I was never destined for a career in politics or the diplomatic core.

In terms of Western Europe, they already have a plan to put 'boots on the ground' if a just peace can be negotiated, with military commanders noting that this must not be peace keepers but an actual military force, with all the supporting accoutrements, including air support, drones etc.

The question is not if the bulk of Europe will put boots on the ground but how quickly they can do so.

Appeasing Putin will not bring peace. It didn't in 2014 and it won't now. Putin wants to see Western democracies weakened, and those in Eastern Europe return to the "Greater Russia" fold. It is shameful that the U.S. president is aligning himself with that agenda, but here we are.

As for dress code, look at Trump's unelected right-hand man attending and addressing a U.S. cabinet meeting in a "humourous" t-shirt and baseball cap.

But it was apparently fine for you to call me 'a little Britainer' and racist.

As I said, you are not someone to be taken seriously.

"Little britainer " means someone who thinks that everything revolves around the UK.

You assumed that I was in the UK, without once asking me.

So that description of you is correct.

You then said that i wasn't to be taken seriously because I lived abroad.

Which sounds extremely racist to me.

So are you saying that only people who live in the UK, are to be taken seriously?

That IS racist.

Jeeekers · 01/03/2025 13:30

What I saw-
Mr V making a case for Allied Military Action against Putin, & that includes UK. Perhaps going “off script” for the global audience.

Trump & JD caught off guard and JD esp going off-script. Believe they were both sides going to say diplomatic solutions but Mr V went rogue because he does not want a compromise. He wants Crimea and Ukraine.

Mr V, his strategy did not get the support expected. USA does not want combat and doesn’t care if V gets all he wants - that’s diplomatic solution,

If we Americans haven't given a lot of money to Ukraine (we have) then Europe won't mind if we take our tiny contributions and go home.

Well that really sealed your argument!

My argument is if that I think Zelensky was rude and arrogant. You don't go into a meeting on the defensive with the leaders of a country who have been supporting you. He should have considered his approach and yes that includes his attire.

RubyTuesday48 · 01/03/2025 13:30

Bertaboo · 01/03/2025 13:17

Yes but have any European leaders even sat down and tried to open discussions with Putin. To try to get him to stop.

Because it seems like they have done absolutely nothing

I think Macron has done and before Merkel retired she was a go between as she grew up in East Germany and spoke Russian. There is no one of her calibre who Putin will listen to today.

Zelensky is in no position to be rude when he goes cap in hand for money to the US for a war that is going nowhere. I believe in realpolitik, believing in political practicalities not dogma and certainly not the ill informed hysteria displayed by so many here.
how would you feel if your son was fighting a war that has no end? that your country has been decimated, families broken apart. Children growing up in a foreign country?
Ukraine is not going to win unless Europe and the US declare an all out war on Russia and that is not going to happen. Trump is offering a way out for Ukraine that will benefit the whole country, Zelensky blew it by being a prima donna.
I suggest that you don't let your dislike of Trump become all out derangement and you exercise a little judicious common sense.
Look at the whole press conference, see how badly behaved Zelensky was. I doubt that you will, it might disturb your prejudices.

Just wondering what you are busy being an expert in @BusyExpert ?
Because we can strike out: communication skills, analytical skills, diplomatic skills... I guess it must be something else. Care to share?

TheAmusedQuail · 01/03/2025 12:38

@Donotpanicoknowpanic Zelensky was quickly supported in posts on X by the leaders of France, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, The Netherlands, Austria, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Canada, Croatia, Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic and Portugal, among other nations.

So I think you'll find the world other than Trump and Putin thinks the orange bloke is wrong.

Elon musk doesn’t wear a suit 🤷🏻‍♀️

Zelenskyy stopped wearing a suit when his country went to war.

The war has really been going on for 11 years as Russia took other bits including Crimea. Do we really think Putin will stop once he gets what he wants? He’ll just move onto his next land grab. Trump just sees an opportunity to get those Ukrainian minerals pretending he’s being kind. He’s the ultimate narcissist. And don’t for one second think the USA gave Ukraine anything without a self serving motive. Yes the war needs to end but not in a way the aggressor gets what they want and others act like scavengers, leaving Ukraine with barely anything but the rhetoric to be grateful.

No one HAS to wear a suit.

He can wear what he wants.

I go to business meetings. The men often don't wear suits.

How do you suggest? There are already sanctions in place.

kistanbul · 01/03/2025 13:33

NATO countries don’t only use one type of fighter etc, so I struggle to follow your logic

However the question is - have we passed the point where we have to stand up to Putin? I believe the answer is yes. Exactly what that means for next steps, I don’t know.

Russia wants Ukraine's resources.

Both are using different versions of menace.

If you meet him appear humble let him roll and be obsequious, he will be calling you beautiful sharpish and then you can gently work him.

Macron and starmer knows this
