To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

OP posts:
Derbee · 01/03/2025 13:23

Trump is a twat and so is anyone who thinks he has a point. Trump was put out from the start because President Zelensky didn’t wear a suit. He has stayed multiple times that he will not wear a suit whilst his country is at war. He is a man of principle.

Trump and his little lap dog Vance were a disgrace. They don’t want peace. They want to keep their heads up Putin’s arse for their own personal gain.

Anyone who saw that meeting as anything other than mortifying for the United States should be ashamed of themselves. You included

Ffs OP. Are you that naive you think Putin will stop at Ukraine?

I think you have taken all the reports in the western media too literally. Putin has said nothing that suggests he wants to take over the whole of Europe. He wants Ukraine to remain neutral and definitely not to join NATO. He has said this consistently for decades.

Zelensky was argumentative and ungrateful. I also find his lack of wearing a suit disrespectful, fair enough his attire is fine in a war zone but he is in the White House. The war needs to end, they have tried their best to beat Russia with 100’s of billions £ of donated weapons and it’s a stalemate. How many of these posters would be happy for their sons to die on the battlefield.

You deride him for his clothes?

Seriously?

BusyExpert · 01/03/2025 13:23

And that belief is more important to ou than helping a country that is on the path to destruction?
If so you have little insight or common sense which sadly is your burden.

sleepwouldbenice · 01/03/2025 13:23

I will ask again
Given how many times Russia has broken agreements and invaded (note Ukraine did not start the war) why us it unreasonable for them to asked for resolute security guarantees in exchange for minerals? Why?

Notonthestairs · 01/03/2025 13:23

So Churchill was disrespectful when he didnt wear a suit in the White House because his country was at war?

I don't live in the UK.

You're another little Britainer who assumes that everyone on mumsnet lives in the UK.

We don't. This is a worldwide forum.

If you don't live in the UK then it's very easy to suggest that the UK should attack Russia, isn't it?

Trump was patronising when he met him about his clothes but he didn't deride the attire he actually said he thought he looked good

Well that really sealed your argument!

Couldn't disagree more. There was nothing disrespectful about what Zelensky was wearing. He was clean and tidy. The only disrespectful behaviour I saw was from Trump and Vance.

notimagain · 01/03/2025 13:25

@BigDecisionWorthIt

There's some good images through Google that show the range rings of the SA-21 when they deployed it to Syria

Anybody can draw generic range rings for systems, the MSM and some of the pundits love them and yes some of them look very impressive.

In reality a lot of these supposed maximum ranges are massively optimistic, and in the aviation environment (specifically surface to air and air to air) they are meaningless without knowing the dynamics of the engagements and TBH a host of other variables.

Ukraine is in a bad position and ideally everyone would live in peace

But the answer to your question is yes

If it means I could bring my children up in a country that was not being ripped apart by war

If it meant not having to send my partner off to fight and never see him again

If it meant that I could live a life that I wanted to live them yes I would let the Americans mine the rare earth from the country

And who knows I could even get a job at the rare earth mines

Yes some of the wealth will go to America but some will stay in Ukraine

This money could be used to rebuild Ukraine

There were people in government & the royal family at the brink of WW2 that had your view. They wanted at all cost not to go to war. Where do you think that would have left us, we would have had concentration camps in the uk murdering jews & other minorities but you would be happy with that as long as I am ok Jack. They will conscript your children to the Russian army to try & take over the US & China. Very shortsighted.

Vannymcvan · 01/03/2025 13:19

Ffs OP. Are you that naive you think Putin will stop at Ukraine?

Are you naive to think that Russia still has the capability and capacity to mount a ground incursion on any other country? They haven't altered the FLOT/FLET for the best part of a year. It's a stalemate and they are losing a lot of ground kit/equipment.

Are you naive not to consider the main threat that Russia pose? And have threatened if UK/US made missiles continue to be launched at targets in mainland Russia (outside the conflict zone).
Airspace restriction and denial is a real risk and could pretty much cut of Ukraine support wise.

Thank you @MarvellousMarch :)

I do often report, but I think it should ok to address misinformation and the pedlars of it where we see it too. And to be aware that state sponsored internet propaganda is big business with high stakes.

If you go back and read,

I said "countries in Europe " need to attack Russia.

The UK is one.

If you don't want to, then don't. We'd probably have enough without you.

We just need an alliance of some European countries To step up and do something

Explain yourself.

Putin has consistently denied Ukraine's right to exist as an entity.

Has made several speeches on this... similar views on the Baltic states.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/03/2025 13:27

Zelensky is in no position to be rude when he goes cap in hand for money to the US for a war that is going nowhere

And yet as I've said on several threads it's been something of a popular approach among America's so-called allies, @BusyExpert, with one hand stretched out for money and the other flicking Vs

Understandably a lot of Americans don't appreciate this, and whether we like it or not the climate's now changed with Trump being the President - something they're going to have to get used to

So who was this ‘we’ you were talking about?

TheWombatleague · 01/03/2025 13:28

No, what Trump said wasn't right.

He claimed Ukraine was losing "hundreds of thousands" of troops, it isn't. It hasn't lost 100,000 since the war started.

He claimed Zelensky doesn't want peace, there have been numerous deals proposed and either broken or rejected by Putin.

He claimed Ukraine's cities are rubble, 80% of the country isn't.

He claims the US are entitled to 500 billion dollars, they aren't.

He claims Ukraine started the war, they didn't.

If Trump simply wanted to end the war, rather than putting pressure on Zelensky, he could pressure Putin. Russia cannot win against Ukraine even with its current levels of support, it's losing hundreds of thousands of troops and its economy is tanking.

What he wants, is to normalise trade with his despot buddy and to gut Ukraine for assets.

Trump isn't a serious person, this is a man who spent the first few weeks of his second term raging against the stupid deals the US made with Canada and Mexico, forgetting he was the idiot who made those deals when he was last in office.

Have you talked to any Russian people?

Any Russian people that I've spoken to, said that Putin wants to take over more countries in Europe.

If we ignore him now, because "oh its only Ukraine and it's not happening to us"

It will reach us later.
