To think Trump is right

1000 replies

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 01/03/2025 08:04

Watching the press conference last night which descended into an argument

I can't help think Trump was right and made good points

Thousands of troops are dying and being seriously injured every month

Trump wants it to stop

There are thousands of people who have children alive today who will not be alive tomorrow because of this war

They are clearly in a stalemate and soldiers are now dying untill peace terms are made as no side can win on the battlefield

Trump as brutal as it sounds was being realistic about what peace would be like

Ukraine has to be realistic

If Ukraine sign the rare earth deal with America then America will have a stake in Ukraine and they should then get a better security deal

Trump has not agreed what that is yet, it's clear he wants the European's to form a big part of that

The European's want American troops and for good reason

But this has to stop and the only way it will stop is by peace negotiations

And these have to be realistic and Trump is saying it as it is

Genuine question:

Why are no other European countries intervening and fighting Russia?

This war has been dragging on for years now

Because that would be NATO declaring war on Russia.

It's a red line that has been tiptoed around by both sides up till now. NATO providing Ukraine with weapons, intelligence, and air support but not boots on the ground.

Russia has also not invaded a NATO country because Putin is also avoiding war with NATO. He obviously attacks NATO countries using cyber warfare, cutting cables, covertly destroying ammunition stockpiles, but again, not boots on the ground.

@SilkSquare

It's not a discussion about sending our kids to fight. Nobody wants that. But I doubt anyone wanted that in any war.
What we are discussing is how much we are going to accept so we can avoid sending our kids to be killed. And what actions now could stop that from happening.
Some people here seem to be defending doing nothing, keeping out of it. I don't think they really believe that this is going to keep their kids safe. It's just ensuring that either we'll live under an authoritarian regime, or we'll have a war later.
We've been calling the people that fought WWII "the greatest generation", because their sacrifices made possible for us to live in a free country.
But sure, it's an argument worth having if we would do what they did, or we would rather live under an authoritarian regime and avoid all that death. I am open to be persuaded either way

Yes, I see your point but I still think it gives my boys a better chance than being killed on the front line.

I have been genuinely amazed at how many mothers on here take the line that they would rather their child is conscripted than not fight Putin.

I know I'm in the minority but I cannot change my mind. Nothing is worth stamping out the light of my boys and I don't think I would take any comfort from pondering on the cause-no matter how noble it might be.

I wonder if-and who know if it's possible or not- the government were able to track User Names and turn up at the doors of those-like @C0tt0nCandy who are so pragmatic about lives lost and take their sons first, as they have been so vocal about the bigger picture.

Maybe if that happened, I wouldn't be the only one sitting on The Cowards' Bench.

I am also not prepared to accept that that's it for the US. My American non-Trumpist friends (and those gaslighted into voting for the fucker, by the way) are worth more than that.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment and have some fantastic American friends unfortunately at least for now the relationship with the US needs to be over, we simply can’t trust them.

America has allied with Russia. This is a catastrophe. We aren't getting out of this without a war and we will probably all die, whatever we "feel" about it. We need to ally with Germany and France immediately and go to a war economy. It's a nightmare. It's a disaster.

So much hysterics on here 🙄

OneLemonDog · 01/03/2025 12:29

ZooAccountant · 01/03/2025 12:27

But did he? It's seems a warmer approach to Trump wouldn't have done any harm. In keeping relationships supportive, isn't this what you do?
We thank you for supporting Ukraine....

Yes, he said thank yous at the start of the conference, and has done so many times before.

Try telling that to the people of Salisbury.

Do you think that appeasing Putin is cancelling the incoming war?

This. I think "we all probably die" is an exaggeration, but it is clearly that the old world order is now gone for good, pretty much overnight, and the only way the new order will be established is through blood and fire, lots and lots of it.
Tomorrow is a decisive day to understand how Europe will react. I am an atheist but for the first time in my life I have something resembling a desire to pray.

I don't.

They seem to genuinely think it is. Staggering.

Igotjelly · 01/03/2025 12:30

Try telling that to the people of Salisbury.

Using spies and covert means isn't boots on the ground.

Remember the agents there said they were sightseeing.

Or the actual posters. Give them the fighting tools, a bit of training and off they go.

MarvellousMarch · 01/03/2025 12:32

What is appeaseing?

Stopping putin from taking all of Ukraine?

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2025 12:32

ZooAccountant · 01/03/2025 12:31

Yes

On what grounds?

Mrsbloggz · 01/03/2025 12:32

Susan7654 · 01/03/2025 12:25

Why Trump doesnt pressure Putin? Its like a teacher telling bullied child to suck it up and give in.
Its crazy that the fate of the world depend s on one very incompetent and emotion, power and greed driven man

A person not in control of themselves is easily controlled by others; the fate of the world depends on those pulling the strings of the odious orange puppet.

Millymoonshine · 01/03/2025 12:33

@Donotpanicoknowpanic you want Ukraine to be divided up by the US and Russia to stop a war.
And then afterwards?
What country is next?
It won’t stop with Ukraine.
Dictators don’t stop.

They have to be stopped.

ZooAccountant · 01/03/2025 12:33

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2025 12:32

Remember the agents there said they were sightseeing.

Fairly certain using chemical agents on UK soil is not the same as covert means. Mass casualties were only averted through sheer luck.

C0tt0nCandy · 01/03/2025 12:16

Does he?I’m not seeing massive support. Quite the reverse all over SM.

To be fair, we are learning SM isn't IRL

Edited

It was an assassination attempt, not an attempt at mass poisoning.

You'll notice that war did not follow.

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2025 12:30

Do you think that appeasing Putin is cancelling the incoming war?

I don't know . I
It sounds as if you are saying that war is the only way-we're out of options.
If we are, there will be conscription and other hardships.
But the biggest hardship for me would be seeing my sons killed over some fight between war mongering men.

Anyway, as I said earlier, by not wanting war and by not wanting conscription-which will be inevitable-I am in the minority but I salute all those mothers who are braver than me.

I thought that the thought of our children dying would mean a lot of mums thought like me, but knowing that the vast majority are prepared to make that sacrifice has been an eye opener for me.

I suppose it shouldn't have been-after all, mothers in WW! and WW2 made the same sacrifice-their maternal love would have been the same and they willingly did it, were proud and it seems it's the same in our generation.

I'm out on a limb.

I don't.

Many thought Hitler would stop at the Sudetenland.

Russia hasn't the means to go further atm but he soon will.
