Petuniaspetal · 28/02/2025 20:24

Have to be honest since trump won i wasn't going anyway. But anyone cancelling or going elsewhere?
I have a big birthday this year, I would go to the garbage dump rather than support America,/musk in any way. I know therwmis at least half of America that doesn't.support this shxt and for them I am sorry but for the republicans too spineless and self interested to resist their dictator.trump...not one iota of sympathy for the rising prices loss of Medicaid or medicare.

YABU ..to cancel/Not go
YANBU...wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

Just spoken to a friend in North Carolina who told us he’s ashamed and embarrassed at what’s going on . He’s just called Trump a sociopath.

Incognito1975 · 02/03/2025 20:24

I was thinking of the US for our holiday next year but now considering Canada as an alternative. If by a miracle Trump is gone by then will probably revert to original plan.

No I'm not concerned by Trump. I wanted him to win. And by and large I support everything he's done and is promising to do, with slight reservations about his views on Israel / Gaza.

I'm excited to revisit America again (haven't been there since 2019) because there is an energy and positivity about the place. Obviously Democrats and lefties are demoralised but the majority - who voted for Trump remember - feel hopeful that they now have a President who actually gives a shit about them. If only we had that here instead of virtue signalling politicians spunking our money up a wall at every opportunity before reminding us about the "Black Hole"

You’re ok with those of us north of the border having to give up our country and become the 51st state?

Isinglass20 · 02/03/2025 20:39

Voting revealed that many Americans didn’t support Republicans and Trump. Many Germans didn’t support Hitler and many Russians do not support Putin. But ‘evil reigns when good men do nothing’. Germans feared the SS. Russia is not a democracy. But the US is a democracy and Americans claim Trump et al do not represent them. Brave Russians and Germans protested. What are the Americans going to do?

Our supermarkets are actively labelling Canadian food.

@Parker231 , my Loblaws is not doing this. I am so ticked off. I'll have to check Metro and see if they do.

We’ve a couple of labels specific to our Province-
Aliments Du Quebec and Aliments préparés au Québec - makes it easier to check.

They certainly were under the Brexit Tories and the cr*p that came with those horrific years

We don't have an awful government. You might not like labour in power. However, we at least have normal, governing government back.

A government that can speak on the world stage and are not systematically making us look like fools and an embarrassment

I hate to think how much you have been drinking today.

Objectively we are currently subjected to the worst government in living memory. Nothing else comes close. They are a complete disaster.

Don't forget about the roaming rape gangs.

Eh? There are roaming rape gangs??

You keep saying this, but we've just lived through 14 years of the Tories staggering from one disaster to another. There is absolutely no way this government is worse. Absolutely no bloody way. We're still paying for the staggering idiocy of Truss.

I used to love America. I can't see me going back now in my lifetime, sadly.

In your whole lifetime? Oh come on, that's a bit of an over-reaction, isn't it? And you're going to miss out on all the amazing things the US has to offer! I know the current situation is appalling, but do remember that half the country didn't vote for him, the country voted him out before, and also twice elected a black president. I also suspect that a good proportion of people who voted Trump this time wouldn't do so again now.

Genevieva · 02/03/2025 21:00

The weak value of the pound has made the US an expensive destination for a long time now. But ordinary people are removed from macro politics, so if I wanted to visit I would still go.

OneLemonDog · 02/03/2025 21:00

ThisFluentBiscuit · 02/03/2025 20:52

Eh? There are roaming rape gangs??

Also, the Trump Administration just actively chose to import a rape gang from Romania.

"Owning the libs" by embracing rapists.

They're sick fucks.

I don't imagine that things will suddenly revert to the norm in 4 years. I hope they do, and I'd happily re-evaluate if it occurred, but I think the US as we knew it could already be no more.

I do not expect Trump to leave the WH in 2028 (or Jan 2029) regardless of the results of any election. He might, of course, but I don't think it likely. He is far, far more prepared than last time.

Ladyymuck · 02/03/2025 21:05

We've travelled all over the US and love it but I won't be booking to go back until Trumps gone. I realise that may be sometime off with all his 'tongue-in-cheek' references to a third term but there's plenty more lovely countries to travel to.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 02/03/2025 21:05

cocoromo · 02/03/2025 19:54

I agree, it’s also extremely unlikely that you will personally bump into Trump while on holiday 🤗

I've been able to avoid him for all these years. Of course, if I knew he was going to be at point "A", I'd make sure to be at point "L". But, I just don't like politicians in general, since very few have been decent in the last couple of decades.

PumpkinSparkleFairy · 01/03/2025 08:16

I wouldn’t go to the US at the moment if there was any chance I could be pregnant while there.

I've needed medical and surgical treatment for a missed miscarriage before, and wouldn’t want to risk being denied medical care.

You would NOT be denied medical care for a miscarriage, fgs!!!

linsey2581 · 02/03/2025 21:25

We are heading to NYC next week wouldn’t change my plans.

Are you on glue? The people who did these things in Britain were the subject of public enquiries. People went to jail. Huge fines were paid. Public apologies were issued. These people in America? They got put back in the White House.

They were not subjects of public enquiries until many years had passed and thousands of lives were destroyed. And the government stood back for YEARS and let it happen. So no, I'm not on glue, thanks.

I don't think it will turn out to true that the US as we knew it is no more, given that half the people didn't vote for him. The election was no landslide; it was close. And I think he's behaving sufficiently badly that a lot of people who voted for him wouldn't do so now.

Yes. You can absolutely not receive care for a miscarriage. This is one woman’s story. She died. There are more if you just spend 2 minutes googling. It’s a nightmare.

None of them were elected to rule the country. You can’t possibly even pretend that a sex offending TV presenter is the same thing as actively putting a convicted one in charge of your country.

You are still assuming that he'd respect the outcome of a vote.

He obviously tried to overturn the last election. If Pence hadn't done his constitutional duty, the US would have been plunged into a constitutional crisis.

The new Trump administration is far more radical and has already indicated that it is prepared to disregard the courts.

Even if the Republican-stacked Supreme Court ruled against him, and told him to leave office, there's little that they can do to enforce it. They could send some US Marshals to go arrest him but do you honestly see that happening?

Obviously it cannot be said with certainty, but I expect Trump will still be in-office come 2030. Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

keffie12 · 02/03/2025 22:02

@Hamilton6382 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's very funny cos I'm 22 years sober, and nope, they aren't. Your opinion doesn't make it a fact. You clearly like trolling, so I'll leave you to it

Won't go while the Tates are there.

My guess is that Andrew Tate ends up with a role in the administration.
