Have to be honest since trump won i wasn't going anyway. But anyone cancelling or going elsewhere?
I have a big birthday this year, I would go to the garbage dump rather than support America,/musk in any way. I know therwmis at least half of America that doesn't.support this shxt and for them I am sorry but for the republicans too spineless and self interested to resist their dictator.trump...not one iota of sympathy for the rising prices loss of Medicaid or medicare.

YABU ..to cancel/Not go
YANBU...wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

Yes, saved up to take kids to NY, now going to Toronto instead

Zita60 · 02/03/2025 08:12

So politics in Afghanistan wouldn't put you off going there?

apparently only her own perceived safety would stop her. She could get a shock with that in the US!

ElatedShark · 02/03/2025 09:22

You know, foreigners have very, very good reason not to visit the UK, judging it by the standards that are being applied to the US. The UK has a deep and long history of child abuse, much of which is still going on. Child sex trafficking rings are/were in dozens of towns, the authorities knew, and did nothing. See Rotherham and others.

In addition to that, almost a thousand people were wrongly accused and had their lives destroyed by the Post Office.

Then there's the police undercover scandal, where police lied to targets, slept with them, and had children with them.

There's the BBC, who covered up child abusers like Savile and Rolf Harris for decades.

Then there's Deepcut, Windrush, and horrific social care failures that have ended with children's deaths.

Foreigners reading about all these things might reasonably conclude that Britain is a disgusting, nasty little island and decline to spend their tourist money here. And I bet the people on here insulting the US wouldn't like that, especially as the UK economy is far more dependent on foreign tourism than the US is.

Judgement goes both ways, and people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

You are quite right. But there is a difference between having these issues and dealing with them, or voting in a sexual abuser clapping him on the back, saying thanks and come on in ! 🤪.

Hopefully you'll get the full Epstein report soon... not Pam Bondis faux 'release'. That was a rather pathetic attempt to fool even the dumbest of trump voters. Trump didnt sound so keen to release that report if you ask me. But make sure you listen to the full and unedited interview...ie not the fox edited version. Plenty of pictures of Epstein and Trump together , quotes, interviews and video of their special relationship, should the report never see the light of day. 🤓

Are you on glue? The people who did these things in Britain were the subject of public enquiries. People went to jail. Huge fines were paid. Public apologies were issued. These people in America? They got put back in the White House.

Your reply is antagonistic and frankly outdated at best.

I have First Nations heritage and my family works very closely with Communities and my best friend ‘adopted’ an indigenous child removed from her horn so I know a little bit about this. Do you? Or are you just reading some convenient headlines?

Historically you are right, but this is true of many many other colonial conquests. The government has repeatedly apologised and openly acknowledged the scandals.

Is there work to be done? Absolutely. Are things covered up? Sure, but that doesn’t just apply here.

That ain’t what this thread is about. If you want to talk about this elsewhere then fine - let me know and I’ll visit. Otherwise your deflection of Trump and the harm he has done and continues to do is offensive.

My heritage is mostly Lakota Sioux, my username is my favourite animal. But we had family run to Canada. Their stories didn't end well and children were stolen. My point was that Cabada is no more a ethical destination than the US. Things are bad, in the US, for young women, in particular. I have family in Illinois/Indiana. We were there two years ago and are going to Texas next year. It isn't just Trump that is changing things. I'm sceptical that real change is possible because of the misinformation and agendas across the Internet. As well as other factors. But posters aren't taking the moral highground by booking Canada. The cover ups, racism, abuse is still happening today.

No American TV series or films for you, then, and definitely no Coke or Levi's or American toys if you have kids. Barbie, Disney, Hot Wheels - all banned!

No iPhone, Amazon, Microsoft. Have to check where medicines are made or R&Ded. No sure what foods would become verboten there, but I am guessing there might be a few.

But honestly, except for butter, I can't think of anything we use from the UK. Probably because I don't check.

TizerorFizz · 02/03/2025 17:29

I have never found the USA cheap. I guess we haven’t looked for aspirational holidays in the USA either. Other places are far more aspirational and so many Brit’s go for Disney. Hardly aspirational. Eating out is the big hit and it’s not more expensive than France or uk. However I’m not a bargain basement person. I’ve no doubt many are still decent people but like many can be manipulated by politicians without understanding economics, hence cheering tariffs.

TizerorFizz · 02/03/2025 17:32

We don’t need to worry about Americans reading foreign history. It’s of little interest to them. Like understanding a war in Europe and who is to blame.

If you could list more suggestions for products to avoid where possible, please, very helpful.

Weald56 · 02/03/2025 18:03

As there is nothing we can do as UK citizens/residents to affect what the US does except boycott it, we won't be going there for the next 4 years (at least). And - where possible - we'll boycott US companies.

GiveDogBone · 02/03/2025 18:20

Yep. I’ve cancelled my plans to visit this year. I’ve been dozens of times to the US, but won’t go for at least the next four years. (Won’t ever buy a Tesla, either).

neversawheragain · 02/03/2025 18:24

i always wanted to go to america and see new york and stuff but now i wouldn’t go there if you paid me a million pounds

Duechristmas · 02/03/2025 18:40

We have a flight booked for October, I looked to cancel yesterday but it's a no refund one. Plan A is to tour, Plan B well be to stay with family and out of mischief. Plan C we just let the tickets go and take the hit. We went to trump's America in 2017/2018 but it was different then, he was the head of state without the power. I don't think anybody knows what the future holds right now.

Iceboy80 · 02/03/2025 18:42

What a halfwit you and many others are on here, now if any would be the best time to go as it'll be a damn sight safer than when the other halfwit was in power.

It shocks me, most women are like sheep following the hurd, look up all the information rather than what the mainstream media tells you, use your own mind and you will see the truth.

I’m 100% behind Ukraine but given Trump is the most powerful man in the world and Ukraines only hope, VZ should have played the game a bit better. Not exactly a world class diplomat is he. We be booking our bi-annual Florida trip for the summer soon 😀

Trump thinks he the most powerful man in the world but following his performance in the WH, his fan base has diminished and he is becoming isolated with his only ally being Putin.

Purpl · 02/03/2025 18:49

I’d go if it was in budget. Trump is just one person I don’t like lots of governments and London can be high risk and still go there all the time. I’m sure it wouldn’t make that much difference to USA economy. But if you feel
strongly there’s so manyy other holiday destinations. It was nice to suppport the cities of Budapest and Prague and hear their history. War is just devasting

The world is now less safe with Trump as President. In his first term he came close to an all out war with Iran and his track record of unpredictability is a challenge for his so called allies, in particular NATO members.
With his threats to those of us living north of the border, his actions have increased patriotism and an unwillingness to spend money on US products and travel. Our supermarkets are actively labelling Canadian food.
Why do you think people are acting like sheep? We’re quite capable of checking numerous news outlets.

Toptops · 02/03/2025 18:58

I wouldn't go again, in protest, until trump and his nasty mates are gone.
Like I boycott Israeli produce because of netanyahus genocidal inclinations.
It often feels like we are powerless in the face of bad/megalomaniac politicians and their chums but this is one thing we can do.

FuzzyDonkey · 02/03/2025 18:59

SnoozingFox · 28/02/2025 20:46

As per usual on MN, loads of people who never had any intention of going to America virtue signalling saying how they would not ever, EVER go. It's like me saying that I would never EVER get on a rocket and fly to Mars. Or 4 years ago people refusing to come to the UK because of Boris.

I have actually been to the US recently and am flying off to a Republican state in a month or so. Trump is not representative of the country as a whole - and not all traditional Republican voters think he's great either.

All the "it's dangerous for women" - give me a break.

It's nothing like people refusing to go because of Boris. Give me one example of Boris doing anything comparable to the Trump / Musk-level insanity going on lately?

And yes, I actually do live in the US right now. And looking for ways to leave.

Snakebite61 · 02/03/2025 19:02

Anyone who supports trump is obviously sick in the head. I'll never go with people like that there .

Suggestions for what? Maybe you could try and make yourself clear?
