Trump was right on one thing though, in order for this war to end Ukraine is going to have to trust that any deal made will hold, we can’t have US military boots on the ground in Ukraine because that is very likely to end in WW3 and that has to be avoided at all costs. UN peacekeepers would have been a better option. Neutral nations volunteering.

But this isn’t about security guarantees.

Didn't make any comment on what Russia would do next, just that Ukraine won't be able to continue without sustained US support. That is the cold reality of it.

Never was a fan of Zelenskyy but they have crossed a line. Disrespectful no matter what, to any leader from a sovereign nation. Disrespectful to all the Ukrainians that their leader was treated with such abhorrent behaviour.

I recall crying the day George W Bush announced the Iraq invasion, knowing our world would never be the same. This feels worse.

Europe (including the UK) need to increase military spending quickly and step up and help Z, or they will lose. Although I don't agree with Trump and JD, but Europe need to do more.

It would be interesting if Ukraine and Russia came to an agreement without the US. That's almost the only solution. Ukraine negotiates with European backing, and they come to a solution they can live with for now.

At some point due to old age, Putin and Trump will die. Then maybe the successors will be more reasonable (though I'm not sure what's worse, Vance or Musk as president - or maybe at that point the US will vote differently).

After that, everything will calm down for a while and new alliances can be negotiated.

I saw Vance said the Ukraine lowered the age of conscription - but isn't it still higher than in the US? I read it's now 25 years, but the US has (according to CIA factbook) a register of all 18-25 year olds in case they need them. And active duty can be from 18 years on. So US has a lower age than Ukraine. The lies just never end with Vance.

I think it could have ended sooner if the US and Europe had put absolutely everything into it right at the very start. There was certainly a time when it looked like it was at least possible that Russia might retreat. At the beginning it was clear Russia hadn’t prepared for the level of pushback they got so it might have been possible to nip it in the bud if we’d done even more.

Agree that ship has now sailed though and it’s unlikely there’s an outcome that doesn’t involve huge losses for ukraine
