Trump and Vance should have had their meeting in private. Like normal people do when they are trying to get a deal signed - not parade visitors in front of mics and cameras. Most normal people hold talks behind closed doors, then do the hand shaking etc., But then, when have Vance and Trump been normal people? I notice the conversation between Trump and Putin wasn't televised - I know it was a phone call but that could have been on speaker phone. So Russia gets a private call, Ukraine gets a public meeting. Classy...
The only reason it was in front of the camera was so that Trump could do his normal big 'I am' .
When Macron corrected Trump earlier in the week about his 'fact' that all the EU money was in the shape of loans and all the US cash was given (both were a mixture), Trump did a stage whisper of 'so you say' or similar. Disrespectful to another President? Or is that OK because this is the President of the USA rambling on as usual.
I personally hopes Zelensky does sign the mineral rights over to Trump. Because then Trump, for all the American public's bleatings about their money being spent overseas, will have to sort out security and stump up tax payers cash to keep those people safe. Not Europe's or Ukraine's responsibility to keep Americans safe - Trump wants them there, Americans can pay for their safety.
After all, one stray missile hitting a US mining facility in Ukraine when Putin doesn't keep his word, would mean the USA would have to step up as 'hurt an American anywhere in the world and you have America to deal with' is the usual chest thumping mantra isn't it.
So if Trump doesn't get security guarantees he's potentially sending his citizens into a volatile zone without protection. Let's see what the good old American public make of that when Putin reneges on his deal.
