Don't worry, if Russia tries to invade Alaska, America will defend no problem. If you were a betting man, how much would you bet that's ever going to happen? My money would be on - it never will.

I literally couldn't care less, but with Trump being totally in Putin's pocket and only interested in money - anything is possible. He might actually sell it to Russia, how about that? )))

Oh so it’s ok fro US to defend their land that was once part of Russia but not ok for Ukraine to do the same?

Why should they? They already have someone in the White House working for them. And open doors to spread misinformation and run cyber attacks.

greengreyblue · 02/03/2025 10:35

And they may well sell to Russia just to piss off Canada.

I guess its what he does best.. looked shocked. He doesn't do much else. And no.. we are not going to WW3 for Ukraine. He is gunning for a pile in.

Naunet · 02/03/2025 10:42

What shocks me the most is the amount of lies Trump tells, even after being corrected, and the American press don't call him out on it. He's lied about how much America has given in aid, repeatedly, claimed anything Europe has given is on loan, claimed that America has given more than Europe etc.

America is turning into North Korea 2.0 with the amount of propaganda they're pushing out.

siblingrevelryagain · 02/03/2025 10:43

Odin2018 · 02/03/2025 08:11

Well, let Europe put in as much as the USA. USA has done their share of doling out money, but they are the bad guys for wanting to do a deal for payback and peace.
Ukraine is now dragging out a losing battle - are you blind?

Don't come to my house making demands when you owe me $billions and I gave you 3 times or more than what anyone else has given you - entitled prick or what?

Edited

Not true-Europe has given more, and most US aid was in expired weaponry, and the new weapknry benefitted the US manufacturing.

Trump wanted at least $500bn in minerals (forever), with no security guarantee from the US, and Russia keeping the land they’ve already captured. Why would Zelensky sign that? For someone who is allegedly great at doing a deal, the man is a muppet and gave an insight into why he has been bankrupt so many times. He’s just a gangster.

The rest of the world stood up and gave to the US after 9/11 (aid, manpower & diplomatic support) without any payback.

MrsPernicious · 02/03/2025 10:44

@Odin2018 a couple of bits of info for you to check

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_impeachment_of_Donald_Trump#Trump%E2%80%93Ukraine_scandal
Might help out with Trump's deep hatred of Zelensky, that impeachment must have stung.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lend-Lease
Nobody sent Zelensky a big fat check or a bar of gold. The money went straight to US coffers and businesses.

Talking of gold bars.. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/feb/01/jpmorgan-gold-bullion-trump-tariffs

R

This is worth a listen to. Definitely an enticing prospect.

It seems almost unthinkable that there is now a possibility of the US relationship with Western Europe turning hostile. Trump is showing his followers that he means business when he promised that every decision he makes during his leadership will put the USA and its citizens first. Screw everyone else basically.

No, you’re not going to WW3 for Ukraine, you’re going to WW3 because of your behaviour towards Ukraine. Nothing happens in a vacuum - how the US behaves to countries it is supposed to be allied to affects how other countries in the world perceive the world situation, and other countries will take advantage of that. No doubt China in particular is observing with interest, having worked so assiduously in recent years to increase its influence and investment around the world. Unless the US is secretly planning to ally with China and does still view it as the enemy it claims it to be, the US is taking astonishing risks to be making itself appear to be a hate figure and untrustworthy to countries it is supposed to be allied to.

Yeah it seems there are some very short memories in America, already having forgotten the support they received after 9/11.

Walkaround · 02/03/2025 10:52

Russia, on the other hand, is already quite friendly with China. So, a win-win for Russia that the US is debasing itself in this way.

wholettheturnipsburn · 02/03/2025 10:59

@Odin2018 You've mentioned a few times now about a promise not to extend NATO eastward ma

Do you have any links to this promise?

I'm presuming that you are not talking about a comment made during the reunification of Germany. Made to the USSR. You know, the nation that no longer exists.

So it must be something else for you to be so sure there was such an agreement or promise

Would love to read more about it

siblingrevelryagain · 02/03/2025 11:02

Odin2018 · 02/03/2025 10:14

The thing is, we all know how the war started. Nato said it would not expand East and low and behold Ukraine in the mix, Russia saw red and here we are.

How many times are we going to keep harping on about it or do we want to get round the table and come to some peace agreement.

If the stance is, Russia started the war so we are not going to have peace negotiations then so be it. European countries can keep funding the war. The UK has just handed Zelensky a few extra £billions so can all the other European countries that wish the war to continue. Why do you care so much about Trump America? Get on with it and put your money where your mouth is. Fight to the end, and let's see in a year's time if Ukraine retains more of what it has right now and how many more bodies have piled up on both sides.

Edited

Because Trump & America are actively involved

They’ve positioned themselves as the lead negotiator (or Putin has), told Ukraine they don’t get their land back or be able to join NATO, but have given no pushback to Russia. Haven’t even asked him to cease activities whilst talks happen, he’s still bombing Ukraine with impunity.

You don’t get to meddle and stir the shit then step away and pretend that cyber attacks and other consequences won’t come your way down the line. US aren’t neutral in this.

Trump is a thin-skinned toddler who hates Zelensky from his first impeachment-his desire to bring down Biden made him blind to everything, most of his criminal cases are related to Biden (apart from the sex offender/rapey ones)

Well when you consider trump spoke to putin a couple of days before and the Russia state media were LIVESTREAMING the events from the Whitehouse...it kinda makes you wonder. Especially when some American press weren't allowed in.

Comrade Trump and Vance.

Hopefully this puts to bed that other big lie; I don’t want to hear any Republican refer to the Russia thing as a ‘hoax’ ever again.

Odin2018 · 02/03/2025 07:52

You lent someone $billions to help them out in wartime.

You invite them to your house to sign a contract that they will pay you back that money with a % of their earth minerals and you will have your own men there mining it.

You also would like the war to end because, quite frankly, although putting up a great fight, men are dying by the hundreds everyday, and you have to forceably drag men off the street who don't want to join the fight but are forced to do so.
Looks from every angle that you won't win the war after fighting bravely for 3 years. People are dying and the country is being decimated.

Without having been given this money the war would have been over within weeks with them losing it. Over in a matter of weeks.

So they sit in front of you, having fought bravely, using your money and basically tell you that they don't believe that you will protect them, even though you have told them you will have a huge amount of business in their country, will have a huge presence in that country as you have your financial business to protect, so reading between the lines, god help any country that comes in to try and destroy it whilst you are there.

That person tells you to your face, in your own home, that they were alone in that war (Really? You gave them $billions). They tell YOU they don't believe that YOU can help them later down the line. They are also asking YOU for more money.
Basically they are saying to you, I am not signing any contact to give you back all that money I owe but I want more and you have to do more before you get any money back

You come to my house, ask for more money, tell me you were alone in the war, basically tell me you will only give me my money back IF I do MORE for you.

Tell you what, I would have lost my rag, kicked you out of my house and tell you to come back when you'd humbled yourself. No one else helped you half as much as I have and still won't - ungrateful prick. Yet, I am the one in the wrong? Get out and stay out!

I guess this post reflects the very essence of the problem that the world has right here. Some people simply don't have the cognitive ability to properly comprehend the nuances of what's actually going on, so they are very easily manipulated into thinking whatever the populist leaders want them to believe.

We've seen it happen at various points in history, but it's truly terrifying to see it playing out in real time.

Yes, Zelensky disagrees immediately and berates them for not getting involved sooner.

EsmaCannonball · 02/03/2025 11:10

I wonder if the (bots) people ok with Russia keeping occupied Ukrainian territory would like to be living in that territory? Zero free speech; arbitrary arrests, torture and disappearance; the risk of being Navalny-ed at any time; your own children being taken from you and sent to be raised by Russian families or orphanages; your children's school being turned into a Russian re-education camp.

The US shouldn't be trusted with any intelligence cooperation until Trump is gone, and maybe beyond.

Petuniaspetal · 02/03/2025 11:13

America gave Ukraine OLD as outdated to them military equipment. To destroy this equipment would have coat billions of dollars. So....they gave it to Ukraine. Any funds given to Ukraine were spent in America to American munitions companies to fund amunitions. So America hasn't done too bad out of this war financially.

80srockmumontherun · 02/03/2025 11:13

I don't think screaming for diplomacy is how diplomacy works!

It was the least diplomatic, statement like meeting I think I have ever seen. Why is it acceptable to speak like that to anyone, let alone when you are the president.

I think Alanis Morrisette needs to get her guitar back out and write another verse to isn't it ironic!!
