BettyBardMacDonald: I'm an American, I have more disgust for Trump, Vance, and Musk than any of you Brits. However, calling the U.S. "a country of ignorant lowlifes" is hurtful. I didn't vote for Trump and I certainly wasn't ignorant before the election about what this lunatic would do as president. We could really use some empathy right now instead of condemnation. There are many Americans who just feel helpless and of course downright angry with the way we're being represented . The people in the government who could stop Trump and cronies are looking the other way.

greengreyblue · 01/03/2025 22:28

I fear the US will become the new Russia. Outliers , totally out of the loop.

I absolutely don’t agree with Trumps behavior today, but to suggest there will be demonstrations if he comes to the UK is off the mark. Outside MN, a lot of the UK will be oblivious to all what’s gone on today. Not enough people will care enough to demonstrate.

Of course there will be demonstrations if he comes to the UK. There were demonstrations before. Whether or not the blimp will make a reappearance I don't know.

greengreyblue · 01/03/2025 22:30

I’d demonstrate. He needs to go very quickly but now I fear Vance is Trump 2.0.

SunDash · 01/03/2025 22:33

Naive bunch of amateurs Trump and Vance, hoping to learn the trade from the big boys ie Putin.
Deal this, deal that...they don't know how to make a deal...just surrender everything, or someone else's country, before anything has started.
Dreadful heinous fools.

But not hundreds of thousands being anticipated by some on here. There will be protests, but those protests would have happened whether yesterdays televised car crash talk happened or not. My guess is the visit will be pushed on to later in the year when all this drama has died down, when the pair have kissed and made up.

It has been shown in full all over the world. And it’s obvious to the world that Trump and Vance set Zelenskyy up for it. It was disgraceful. I can tell you only care about the US (unless you’re a Russian bot). You won’t like it when the US is isolated in the world. It’s obvious now that the ‘5-eyes’ intelligence project is finished. No free world country can continue to share intelligence with the US, or with anyone who would share with the US. Trump is in the pocket of Russia and it would place us at risk. The US is no longer an ally with other Western countries. Macron and Starmer tried some Trump whispering to keep the US on side, but it’s clear he is a dangerous loose canon and the free world needs to arm ourselves to the teeth and leave the US to their cosy relationship with Russia.

I sympathise. I know many, many Americans are horrified and some are scared. Your predicament is awful, probably worse for you than for anyone else. Unfortunately, your MAGA crowd are so loud, arrogant and obnoxious that non Americans sometimes forget about you 💐

There are reports from protests at a Space X location. Note the many women and their posters

Unfortunately, the supposed most democratic country in the world, which is how it has always sold itself, has achieved the election of a corrupt dictatorship. It’s a bit of a death-knell for democracy, really, that US citizens have democratically voted for this to happen and are now too scared to change it, even if they want to. It is the logical conclusion of business becoming more powerful and expansive than nation states, though. The tail has been wagging the dog for a long time.

Isinglass20 · 01/03/2025 23:36

Gabriel Gatehouse predicted in his book The Coming Storm that the U S would become a fascist state.

It is significant that these 80 years have been the longest period in history when this country has not been at war.
It was only 20 years between WW1 and WW2.
WW2 started when Hitler entered Poland in 1939 with the aim of taking it over.
The US had no intention of entering WW2 until they were attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbour and then the US would not build the weapons to help the UK. The parts had to be sent to Canada to be built.
This was part of Lend Lease which the UK finished paying off to the US only a few years ago.
The UK was not part of reconstruction
in Europe funded by the US under the Marshall plan because of fears of communism (oh the irony) .
It was the year of culture funded massively by the EU in 2008 in Liverpool when the bomb damaged buildings were finally cleared and developed. The docks only in this year are now being developed.
The US has always been a bully and interfered in other country’s politics.

If Charles doesn’t uninvite Trump he’ll be sorely misjudging this country’s mood. We hate a bully.

It's not up to Charles, he has no say in the matter, it's the UK government who invited him, he's just doing what he's told to do.

I agree, treat him like a destructive defiant child, kill him with kindness to change his behaviour, for a fortnight at least.

He is unbelievable,what a dick.

and another perspective … I’m not in support of our elderly having no winter fuel allowance, families on the breadline, the NHS on its knees etc etc whilst Starmer pledges £1 billion to the Ukraine every year for the next 100 years. Not a fan of trump , but less keen on ww3

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 02/03/2025 03:48

Some of you really just don't get it, do you?

The UK's support for Ukraine is not charity. This is absolutely about our own national interest.

Has anyone seen You’ve been Trumped and the follow up Documentry ? Has anyone in America seen it? The bullying underhand gaslighting tactics when he builds a Golfcourse in Aberdeen rips up a Heritage Coastline of Significant scientific value and creates fake sandunes and cuts off the water supply of a woman in her 80s for over 6 years she endured his bullying with dignity because it was her home her land legally he didn’t have a way through so he vandalised her watersupply pretended to fix it but made sure it was cutoff . One of my very good friends is Amercian lives here is extremely liberal from migrant background but thinks Trump can learn from his mistakes from the past . I mentioned the sexual assault the Criminal charges etc I am flabberghasted that she thinks he is going to do great things as the current debacle demonstrates he has a view that its all for television that the world of politics is just another episode of the Apprentice meets Jerry Springer to hear the bickering and to think he has the control of missiles that well it doesn’t bear thinking about . He has a Nuclear warhead armoury an invite for nibbles with the King what else does the Bully want oh Yes Greenland anything take your fancy because go grab it be it a woman’s crutch or a landgrab. Also he just wants the rare minerals and I am sure Putin has been mining those they are all they have left to rebuild a devasted occupied country and to just be pulling his pants down in public. I feel like World War 3 has been playing out because its all so transparent the motives the Greed The Powerful just giving each other back handers like Top Trumps when is Wealth over reputation u know when you were considered decent and upstanding with Morals being of value.

I was sickened like the rest of you what happened in that Oval Office. I am an American and I am ashamed to admit it. I am scared for our country with this dictator running our country. I wish the republicans in congress would STAND UP TO HIM but no. They are weak and follow along like puppies with their tails between their legs. This is really a scary time for the world.😭

EsmaCannonball · 02/03/2025 06:52

I saw the golf course documentary when it came out and it cemented my horror at Trump. I've disliked him since the 1980s. He treated the Scottish countryside and the local people in the same way he is shafting the entire world now. What was worse was Alex Salmond and the Scottish government toadying up to him.

Honestly, we need to ramp up our own economy, our own infrastructure, and build a manufacturing base again. We need to build more of our own weaponry and decouple our nuclear arsenal from the US. Ukraine is fighting this war on the west's behalf and providing weapons, as long as we manufacture them ourselves, will not harm the economy. We should also be manufacturing our own steel.

I am so sorry for your country.
growing up in the uk, the USA was always seen as the good guys.
I am absolutely stunned that an American president would behave like that in front of the world media. Words fail me, I believe you are right about a dictator, I hope your country can find the strength to stand up to him. We are living in dangerous times.

THIS!
If we want to protect our country we have to act. Russia has already murdered people on our streets and frequently comes into our air space and waters. If Ukraine falls then what next. FGS - people need to read up on 1938 and the Munich Conference. Ignore the mistakes of the past at your peril.

Waking up to read that the republicans stand by his behaviour yesterday dismays me! This is so worrying. What next, a full blown punch up and that’s ok too. Very scary times.

I feel the same need to do something but unfortunately every aspect of our lives is linked to US tech, so I can't really see how you're going to escape that. Ready to give up Google? Microsoft? Apple?

Just because you can't do one thing, doesn't mean you can't do others. My husband is busy finding alternative tech substitutes, and there are some out there! I'm going to let him experiment first though.

Odin2018 · 02/03/2025 07:52

You lent someone $billions to help them out in wartime.

You invite them to your house to sign a contract that they will pay you back that money with a % of their earth minerals and you will have your own men there mining it.

You also would like the war to end because, quite frankly, although putting up a great fight, men are dying by the hundreds everyday, and you have to forceably drag men off the street who don't want to join the fight but are forced to do so.
Looks from every angle that you won't win the war after fighting bravely for 3 years. People are dying and the country is being decimated.

Without having been given this money the war would have been over within weeks with them losing it. Over in a matter of weeks.

So they sit in front of you, having fought bravely, using your money and basically tell you that they don't believe that you will protect them, even though you have told them you will have a huge amount of business in their country, will have a huge presence in that country as you have your financial business to protect, so reading between the lines, god help any country that comes in to try and destroy it whilst you are there.

That person tells you to your face, in your own home, that they were alone in that war (Really? You gave them $billions). They tell YOU they don't believe that YOU can help them later down the line. They are also asking YOU for more money.
Basically they are saying to you, I am not signing any contact to give you back all that money I owe but I want more and you have to do more before you get any money back

You come to my house, ask for more money, tell me you were alone in the war, basically tell me you will only give me my money back IF I do MORE for you.

Tell you what, I would have lost my rag, kicked you out of my house and tell you to come back when you'd humbled yourself. No one else helped you half as much as I have and still won't - ungrateful prick. Yet, I am the one in the wrong? Get out and stay out!
