We need to build our own stuff. We have great innovative people and research at our universities. It just needs to be built here.

Americans aren’t indifferent. America is a deeply polarized country. Half of America is seething. I live in America and I can promise you that the visceral loathing of Trump is palpable amongst a huge population of Americans. They are going crazy about his behavior here.

Agreed. I also live in the US, in the deep red bit in the middle, and even here a 1/3 of people didn’t vote for this and are fucking livid. There’s also some buyers regret kicking in from those who did as DOGE rip through the government agencies which are big employers in these states.

This and Vance is despicable l don't know what makes him think he is entitled to speak to Zelensky like that. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I did not vote for the Labour party so am not a fan of our current Prime Minister. I do believe that most British politicians are well versed in applying good manners and an element of flattery to appease Trump's ego. It is well recorded that he has an admiration for our Royal family via his links to Scotland through his maternal heritage, so an offer to dine with our King is not without merit politically. Purely in terms of numbers, military or arms, we do not have an awful lot to offer cmpared to the USA. My empathy is firmly with the people of Ukraine, invaded without warrant. President Zelensky tried his best to stand up to the American bullies who seemed more interested in the fact that they thought he was apparently disrespecting the Oval office by not wearing a suit, and saying thank you wonderful America every 5 mins, than the fact that his country is being assaulted by Russia and the Ukraines are just trying not to give into bullies. On behalf of his country President Zelensky met Trump to agree to give him minerals as a business transaction payback, but understandably wanted an aggreement for defense if that meant the end of the war. Otherwise the USA gets the minerals then Putins troups sweep in and take Ukraine anyway after this transaction is concluded. I did admire Zelensky when he was asked "do you even owned a suit?". I slightly paraphrase from memory but it went along the lines of "we are at war. I will wear a costume when the war is ended". Really admirable.

There appear to be a lot of stories coming out which suggest that Vance has really kept up the hostility towards Zelenskyy and engineered it. You have to wonder why that is, and why the Americans thought this would work. Why was Vance there in the first place?
