Trump is of the opinion that if one country invades another, if the country being invaded doesn't have the means to fight them off by itself, then they just need to roll over and surrender.

He thinks that no country has any right to expect support from the US military. Oh, unless it involves ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip(!)

greengreyblue · 01/03/2025 18:09

So proud of Starmer. What a welcome. Zelenskyy looked close to tears. That’s how statesmen act.

I don't blame America for not wanting to provide billions to Ukraine, whether 300billion or 1billion. How long should they fund the war? So much money thrown their way. So much help. Yet still the war rumbles on. However unpalatable it might be, some sort of agreement needs to be reached before three years turns into 10 years, 30 years. 50 years....

Like what, exactly? What do you think Ukraine should agree to having been invaded by Russia?

Lyannaa · 01/03/2025 18:13

greengreyblue · 01/03/2025 18:10

Indeed. But rational opinions will go over Trump’s head. He thinks America is the best country in the world and that nothing bad will ever happen there.

I guess he’s forgotten all about 9/11.

Crikeyalmighty · 01/03/2025 18:14

@greengreyblue shame that it's unlikely to happen to the US due to money and muscle, they might get a taste of what it's like to have someone very powerful muscling in on your country unasked for and be in a somewhat powerless position-

Crikeyalmighty · 01/03/2025 18:17

And for all the far right idiots supporting this show of aggressive willywaving- I wonder how they would have reacted if it was Biden and camela Harris acting like this, saying the same thing? - They are only nodding along because it's one of their own

EsmaCannonball · 01/03/2025 18:18

NATO collapsing would be the most catastrophic thing that has happened to us since the Second World War. Forget the UN or the EU, it's the existence of NATO that has established the rules-based world order for the last few decades. Face it, the US is now being run by an oligarchy bent on making a tiny few individuals richer and nothing else matters to them.

EsmaCannonball · 01/03/2025 18:24

Tbh, I think the US is pretty safe from being attacked by another country but in the coming decades it will lose a lot of power if it becomes isolationist or becomes part of the multi-polar world.

I agree. He has a very short memory - well actually let's face it he struggles to remember what he has said from one day to the next!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/03/2025 18:25

greengreyblue · 01/03/2025 08:36

He was right. No one is safe is what Zelenskyy was intimating. Trump cannot begin to accept that.

Zelensky was trying to make the point that the US will feel Russia's influence. Trump is strenuously defending Russia and hates Zelensky for not helping frame Hunter Biden.

Trump is beyond petty.

PetuniaT · 01/03/2025 18:26

In relation to the post about Vance being the worst protagonist of the two. My quote didn't work....

That was my thought precisely. It was like the school bullly's sidekick showing off from behind his boss's back knowing that the bully would take over if the victim stood his ground. Unbelievable viewing. We've decided to boycott all things American including holidays.

What Trump, and those who say "stay out of it" don't realize is that the world is so tightly interconnected now that this is like playing Jenga. Countries removing themselves destabilizes the whole structure. It's just a matter of how many can remove themselves before everything collapses.

Lyannaa · 01/03/2025 18:29

What is actually amazing about Zelensky is that he went on Fox News after this awful shit show and basically said the situation is bigger than any one person or group of leaders and it’s all about relationships between the countries that go back years. And on that basis he’s still hopeful that his relationship with America is salvageable.

Look at Z now, turning up at downing Street without a suit, how utterly terrible. And he didn't crawl in there saying thank you to each one of us for our support...
How very disrectable Hmm

No one else cares what he is wearing its just a convenient talking point to add to their little bxtch fest.
Trump doesn't mind elon traipsing along in his mufti and cap to the oval office ...what's the problem? Elon even had his kid snot all over the oval office desk...not a word from his puppet trump or his minion vance about it !! They're not even expecting him to say a formal thank you to the American people for the one billion dollar contracts they've given him over the last month. ....while he raids American tax payers coffers...actually invited in and welcomed to do it... talk about being mugged in broad daylight.

catlover123456789 · 01/03/2025 18:32

This whole situation is appalling, its worse than a horror movie. Russia invaded Ukraine and now the US are going after them too. Its classic gaslighting to say Ukraine want the war to continue... of course they don't!!! But they don't want to just roll over to Russia and who can blame them! Those Americans commenting on Zelenskyy's attire was just pure bullying. Disgusting.

TemporaryPosition · 01/03/2025 18:33

Arrivals4lucky · 01/03/2025 17:25

It is possible that Vance and Trump are so thick that they believe that Ukraine actually started this war

There are geopolitics scholars who believe this was provoked. I imagine they're "thick" too with your IQ of 144

When the journalist asked about the possibility that Putin would break a ceasefire or new agreements, Trump said that it could have only happened to his predecessors, but not to him, because "he respects me" - in the video you can see Zelenskyy cocking his head in scepticism. It was almost comedic if it weren't so serious.

Let's play it out, there is a new agreement, Putin breaks it, what will Trump say then? Probably trying to shift the blame on Ukraine again. It really is the abuser's handbook - "it's her fault, she made me slap her".

MissyB1 · 01/03/2025 18:38

America's reputation is being trashed by its own president, I feel sorry for the American people that didn't vote for him. I remember feeling embarrassed to be British when we had that ridiculous period of changing our prime minister every 5 minutes with the last Government. Knowing we were a laughing stock. But this is far worse because this is nothing to laugh about, it's horrific.

While I think the US is pretty safe from a military standpoint I don't think they are safe from a cyber warfare and misinformation standpoint even though they are doing their darnedest to help from within.
They already interfered in the US election and continue to meddle in US politics without any repercussions. A lot of the lies on this thread have been peddled throughout the US no doubt spurred by Russian bots and the right seem to lap it up.
Shouldn't a sitting president actually condemn this?

Llttledrummergirl · 01/03/2025 18:40

How many of those billions of US tax payers dollars given to Musk are going to find their way to Putin?

How will the MAGA cult cope when they realise that they've been played?

That is the crux though. Zelensky was willing to sign the agreement but he understandably needs clearly defined safety assurances.
When someone attacks you but tells the police "I am sorry and won't do it again." You might believe him once, but if he continues to do it 25 times you'll probably ask the police to throw him in jail wouldn't you?
The Trump supporters have yet to answer how the the Ukraine will have protection in a ceasefire, something the US has promised in the Budapest memorandum. ( the UK too by the way).

readyspaghetti · 01/03/2025 18:49

I am disappointed in the women that stand by them. Trump and Vance are vile human beings yet their wives stay and stand by. It’s disgusting!

EasternEcho · 01/03/2025 18:49

Can you name a few? Most geopolitcal commenters I see who subscribe to the "provocation" idea say that it was the US that provoked Russia into invading Ukraine. From Russia's point of view, Putin doesn't even recognize Ukraine as a separate country, but a part of the Russian territory, so I don't understand how scholars feel that Ukraine provoked the invasion. Perhaps by holding on to its sovereignty?
