@businessflop25 yep , there's a reason he has food tasters etc. Putin has done what Trump is now trying to do too- silence opposition in your country, make everyone frightened to speak up for fear of their job, control the media - it's basically dictatorship and very very close to the Nazi way of doing things too - control of your power and support by all ways possible, but without the gas chambers

Oh dear…..I realise you’re trying to re-position your comment, but we both know that it wasn’t your intention to make us ‘aware’ of your poor friends treatment bring to our attention the unfairness of it all. It was a hidden (badly) threat to hi-light that Trumps behaviour would be detrimental to tourists arriving in the UK.

😆😆😆 Oh dear indeed, you are funny trying to tell me what’s in my mind and what has happened to someone you don’t know. It’s getting tedious correcting you however… I actually wrote about her treatment in “Europe”. In actual fact she hasn’t been treated badly in the UK but has while on holiday in other European countries. But don’t let the facts detract your insistence to twist. Your tenacity doesn’t match your accuracy. Your clearly getting very wound up, chill baby chill

What does this mean for the UK? I’m assuming if Putin is bold enough to attack a NATO country after Ukraine we will be a full scale war?

It depends. Trump is openly showing that his loyalties are with Putin, not Europe. If the US chooses not to honour Article 5, there's nothing anyone can do to compel it. Europe will have to go it alone. Canada may decide it has no interest either since Europe doesn't seem bothered by Trump's threat to annex Canada, leaving it alone to deal with the US. NATO may just fall apart.

I sometimes wonder was Zelenskyy meant to be an easy target for them. Let’s face it he went from comedian/actor to president. He has the morals and values of an everyday good guy and was probably seen as an easy and weak target so Putin could just grab what he wanted when he wanted and they thought Ukraine would crumble and it would be over quickly. When that hasn’t happened and Zelensky, not bound by the lifestyle of corruption like most other politicians has gained support and military backing it’s caused the situation we are now in where the narcissists are throwing their toys out of the pram because this wasn’t the easy task they thought .

Zelenskyy has a law degree, too, just like Vance.

and:
"Zelenskyy was a member of the board and the general producer of the TV channel Inter from 2010 to 2012. Later in 2018, Zelenskyy said that then-President Yanukovych had offered him US$100 million for political control of Kvartal 95's programmes after he became general producer of Inter, but Zelenskyy refused."
Quote from here and there are the sources, too:

I think I will start to boycott American goods

It’s really hard not to buy US goods but making a conscious effort to try to buy UK / European wherever possible. I’ve switched from Asda to Lidl for my big shop, for example.

An intriguing analysis has been circulating online regarding the psychological aspects of Zelensky’s meeting with Trump and Vance, conducted using ChatGPT.

From this analysis, it becomes evident that we have witnessed a true masterclass in gaslighting, manipulation, and coercion on the part of Trump and his entourage. Let’s break down the key points:

  1. Blaming the victim for their own situation

Trump explicitly tells Zelensky: “You have allowed yourself to be in a very bad position.” This is classic abuser rhetoric—blaming the victim for their suffering. The implication is that Ukraine itself is responsible for being occupied by Russia and for the deaths of its people.

  1. Pressure and coercion into ‘gratitude’

Vance demands that Zelensky say “thank you.” This is an extremely toxic tactic—forcing the victim to express gratitude for the help they desperately need, only to later accuse them of ingratitude if they attempt to assert their rights.

  1. Manipulating the concept of ‘peace’

Trump claims that Zelensky is “not ready for peace.” However, what he actually means is Ukraine’s capitulation. This is a classic manipulation technique—substituting the idea of a just peace with the notion of surrender.

  1. Refusing to acknowledge the reality of war

Trump repeatedly insists that Zelensky has “no cards to play” and that “without us, you have nothing.” This is yet another abusive tactic—undermining the victim’s efforts by asserting that they are powerless without the mercy of their ‘saviour.’

  1. Devaluing the victims of war

“If you get a ceasefire, you must accept it so that bullets stop flying and your people stop dying,” Trump says. Yet, he ignores the fact that a ceasefire without guarantees is merely an opportunity for Russia to regroup and strike again.

  1. Dominance tactics

Trump constantly interrupts Zelensky, cutting him off: “No, no, you’ve already said enough,” and “You’re not in a position to dictate to us.” This is deliberate psychological pressure designed to establish a hierarchy in which Zelensky is the subordinate.

  1. Forcing capitulation under the guise of ‘diplomacy’

Vance asserts that “the path to peace lies through diplomacy.” This is a classic strategy where the aggressor is given the opportunity to continue their aggression unchallenged.

  1. Projection and distortion of reality

Trump declares: “You are playing with the lives of millions of people.” Yet, in reality, it is he who is doing exactly that—shifting responsibility onto Zelensky.

  1. Creating the illusion that Ukraine ‘owes’ the US

Yes, the US is assisting Ukraine, but presenting this aid as “you must obey, or you will receive nothing” is not a partnership—it is financial and military coercion.

  1. Undermining Ukraine’s resistance

Trump states that “if it weren’t for our weapons, this war would have ended in two weeks.” This is an attempt to erase Ukraine’s achievements and portray its efforts as entirely dependent on US support.

Conclusion

Trump and his team employed the full spectrum of abusive tactics: gaslighting, victim-blaming, coercion into gratitude, and manipulation of the concepts of peace and diplomacy. This was not a negotiation—it was an attempt to force Zelensky into accepting terms beneficial to the US but potentially fatal for Ukraine.

Boomer55 · 01/03/2025 16:46

Trump and Vance might be every sort of idiot, and I’d agree. But, they hold most of the purse strings for so much. 🤷‍♀️

EasternEcho · 01/03/2025 16:52

@AlecTrevelyan006 I think some ritual personal humiliation was also thrown in the mix. I have no doubt that reporter's question to Zelensky about not wearing a suit, asking if he even owns one, and how dare he show up at the Oval Office without one was set up in advance.

And what did we expect from the world’s biggest narcissist?

This is his standard bread and butter.

I would also add that half way through Trump slightly shoved Zelenskyy on the shoulder. It was an implicit reminder who was ‘in charge’ and really shocked me.

This all set up in their favour now to:

Blame Zelenskyy for the lack of peace
Blame Zelenskyy for the withdrawal of US aid and weapons
Blame Zelenskyy for the on going crisis
US distancing themselves from nato under the guise of protecting global peace
Emboldening Russia to believe a deal in their favour is inevitable, severely undermining Ukraine.

This is an unmitigated disaster, not just for Ukraine but for all of Europe, and the world at large.

Things have taken a very sinister turn for the West.

Yeah, I always hated that Churchill guy. Imagine how many lives he could have saved if he had simply surrendered to Hitler and handed over all of Britain’s Jews and homosexuals!

Yeah, I always hated that Churchill guy. Imagine how many lives he could have saved if he had simply surrendered to Hitler and handed over all of Britain’s Jews and homosexuals!

The big loser also had the audacity to rock up to the White House not-in-a-suit - in an outfit very much resembling Zelensky’s fatigues- during WW2.
I wonder if any of the planted press berated Churchill for dressing like he was a leader in the middle of a war, desperately fighting for his country’s freedom against a facist dictator?

greengreyblue · 01/03/2025 17:34

Zelenskyy needs a sainthood! How he didn’t give a piece of his mind to those two imbeciles I don’t know.

Look at Z now, turning up at downing Street without a suit, how utterly terrible. And he didn't crawl in there saying thank you to each one of us for our support...
How very disrectable Hmm

I'm an American and in total agreement. I simply can't abide the idiot.

EsmaCannonball · 01/03/2025 18:04

Trump said that Zelensky hated Putin and then acted like that was a totally unreasonable position. We've all seen the footage of Ukrainian families unearthed from shallow graves with their hands bound behind their backs. Who could be neutral about the man who ordered that?

The stuff about Hunter Biden was very telling. Trump is perfectly ok with cosying up to a man who orders his mercenaries to massacre civilians in Ukraine, Syria and Africa, but he loathes Zelensky because Zelensky refused to be bribed into digging up dirt on the Bidens when Trump was running for reelection in 2020.

This must be how it felt to be a Roman living under Caligula.
