Perhaps Trump just wants to do to Greenland for resources what Putin is doing with Ukraine. They can back each other up 🤔

I think you are spot on

This is apparently part of the transcript. It does not reflect well on Trump/Vance.

(Actually I can't vouch for how accurate this is. Too much fake news swirling around. Time for bed I think!)

TRUMP: You have to be thankful! We've given you a lot.

ZELENSKYY: Thankful? My people are dying. Our cities are burning. And you're here demanding gratitude while threatening to cut us off?

TRUMP: You don't have the cards right now.

ZELENSKYY: Because you held them. You delayed aid. You repeated Putin's lies. You gave Russia an opening.

VANCE: Ukraine has to be realistic.

ZELENSKYY: Realistic? Russia is stealing our land, executing civilians, and kidnapping our children. What part of that should I be realistic about?

TRUMP: It's gonna be very hard to do business like this, Volodymyr.

ZELENSKYY: Business? This isn't a real estate deal. You can walk away. We can't.

TRUMP: If I was president, this never would have happened!

ZELENSKYY: Because you would've just handed Ukraine over.

Edited

Yeah, this is not accurate. I have watched and listened to it several times.

NATO is a threat to Russia. You are just looking from a western viewpoint.

That’s ridiculous. NATO is no threat to Russia. It is just prepared to defend NATO countries if Russia attacks them.

What exactly do NATO want with Russia? It's a defence force.

528htz · 01/03/2025 13:01

Russia is flattering itself if it believes the west want to invade it. They're living in the 18th century if they think this. Putin is a paranoid fool. We have nothing in common with them and have a totally different mindset.

Two bits which caught me attention from the meeting (real transcript).

Trump: You want me to say really terrible things about Putin, and then say, ‘Hi Vladimir, how are we doing on the deal?’ That doesn’t work that way.

But he says terrible things about and to Zelensky, and quite genuinely expects Zelensky to make a deal.

And
Trump: Let me tell you, Putin went through a hell of a lot with me. He went through a phony witch hunt where they used him and Russia—Russia, Russia, Russia, you ever hear of that deal? That was a phony—that was a phony Hunter Biden, Joe Biden scam. Hillary Clinton, shifty Adam Schiff, it was a Democrat scam. And he had to go through that. And he did go through it and we didn’t end up in a war. He went through it, he was accused of all that stuff—he had nothing to do with it. It came out of Hunter Biden’s bathroom. It came out of Hunter Biden’s bedroom. It was disgusting. And then they said, ‘Oh, oh, the laptop from hell was made by Russia.’ The 51 agents, the whole thing was a scam, and he had to put up with that. He was being accused of all that stuff.

He sounds like one of those blokes who defends his affair partner to his wife, "It's been hard for her too! It really hurt her that you were so suspicious of her!"

These two things are extremely revealing about Trump's relationship with Putin.

The irony is that Trump and Vance expect respect when they both showed no respect to another countries President at all, Trump will go on the defensive when he finally realises he was disgraceful. He's not even able to hold a meeting on his own without l Vance or Musk being there to "support" him,.

I’m actually starting to believe they are his handlers to ensure he doesn’t go off script or go through with their plans. He’s never out of site of either one of them.

Why isn’t Trump turning his aggression on the actual aggressor here? Why is he praising Putin? This needs a solid wall approach as afar as Putin is concerned.

I think the point is Trump and the rest of us wants it to end to avoid escalation into a world war 3, but there are limited options. He prob knows that putin is the more volatile of the two. Neither side are going to end it, and whilst Ukraine are not the aggressors, something needs to be worked out. Otherwise it will continue as is, with many more deaths.

So instead of focusing on an aggressor who may go for another small country Trump thinks it's the solution is to publicly humiliate Zelenskyy?

I bet Trump didn’t have the guts to be so rude to Putin, I couldn’t believe what I was watching. I think that today the whole world is still reeling from what we watched on the news. I have never seen such a display of rudeness and bullying and absolute lies targeted towards another person. Trump is a dangerous man. He doesn’t play by the rules.

Yes and I bet he hadn't got the balls to speak to President Zelensky like that if Vance wasn't there either. hes not fit to be calked a president. He doesnt even respect his own citizens accusing them of voters fraud.

Oh dear, here we go again. I’m not trying to “scaremonger” anyone. If anything I’m making people aware that my friend and her compatriots don’t deserve poor treatment for an issue not of their making. Of course it’s your prerogative to be over sensitive right now and it’s understandable that you have a negative off the mark spin on this topic, I understand. With my job my income is directly enhanced if Americans come over, so that’s great, well done you keep it up

Oh dear…..I realise you’re trying to re-position your comment, but we both know that it wasn’t your intention to make us ‘aware’ of your poor friends treatment bring to our attention the unfairness of it all. It was a hidden (badly) threat to hi-light that Trumps behaviour would be detrimental to tourists arriving in the UK.

As said, it was shocking behaviour by Trump and JD yesterday. But….the war needs to be brought to a close. Europe have done zero during the last three years to bring the parties to the table. All they’ve done is hand wring and chuck financial aid at Ukraine. Something needs to be done to bring it to an end. My thoughts right at the start was why can’t they charge Putin for war crimes? Why wasn’t he assassinated? Trump and Europe can focus on the aggressor - but what’s going to be the end goal of this focus?

ForestAtTheSea · 01/03/2025 14:57

One of the early warning signs of dementia is living in the past and repeating old situations. So it seems Trump could be in line for that as he was roleplaying “The Apprentice” in front of the world.
Probably thought the people around him were the producers. His “that’s why I let this go on for so long”, apparently meaning “look how terrible Zelenskyy is”, was especially telling. He just thinks it’s a great show.

Vance was in a second layer and thought he’s the main character in an old western or thinking about how great this scene will look in his next book. He’s also mirroring the style of former Russian PM and now loudspeaker Medvedev.
Really, people who don’t understand the world outside the borders of their country maybe shouldn’t rise up to jobs where they work internationally.

So sad to see “negotiations” being held in a way that demonstrates they have no clue about history, geography, political theory or anything else outside a spreadsheet.
Or that the US contributed such a big slice of the costs because they are the biggest economy and a country larger than Europe. Of course a single small European country can not contribute the same. Some PP have shown the statistics and figures.
You’d have to compare it using individual US states. But he does know that the contribution is measured in % of GDP, which is an indicator for varying economies. The way he always said “Rare earth” or “rare metals” also showed that he doesn’t even really know what that is and he always sounds checked out of reality. It's all just theatre.

Same as the dogma that they only want to be active within the US borders. How does the talk about Greenland, the Panama Canal, Canada, Gaza and space fit in with this? It’s an obvious contradiction, so one of the two sides must be a lie.

They don’t have the right to own any of that. Musk can go to the Moon or to Mars, but there is nothing that says anything there belongs to him or to the US.

The saddest thing is that what they thought was great TV was livestreaming the fall of the American Empire. Great, now you got one over the embattled guy.

But in the future, everyone knows that contracts with US politicians mean nothing, as their golden statue boy demonstrated you can change your mind any minute and explicitly said that what his predecessors legally binding agreed to has nothing to do with him. Why should any other politician then still adhere to contracts?

The boycotts will become stronger and more committed after everyone saw this video.
Scientific cooperations will move elsewhere as the funding could be cut any moment which is too risky when you are going to invest a couple of years in this.
Investments from abroad will reduce, as you can’t rely on the laws and the moment you finish that production space, someone will pull the rug under you because Trump saw a conspiracy theory on TikTok about the thing you wanted to create.

More people will get ill or have accidents because their food safety and health care is compromised and infrastructure isn't maintained or checked often enough. That will make the population less resistant.

Russia and China will gladly move into cooperating more than already with countries in South America and Africa and divide that influence space up between them. Already now China and Russia are buying agrarian land and mines and capture poorer countries with infrastructure deals that are impossible to pay back.

I don’t doubt btw that not all payments in the civil service and agencies are necessary, nor do I think the war should go on forever.
But the way this is handled isn’t smart, it’s inefficient and stupid. It will cost so much to lose experienced and necessary workforce and conceding everything to Putin is pretty much the worst negotiation tactic ever.

I also encourage everyone who didn't yet do it to watch the full video on youtube (from the Guardian and probably other news sites) as it shows the whole trainwreck and there were two groups of journalists; after the first shouting the audience was exchanged and a second group came in for a fresh round.

What we saw yesterday was the USA declaring that they are now a Russian satellite state.

@StrikeAlways it is fear. It's not fear of NATO invading or anything similar. It's fear of the western influence on its citizens. Putin like all dictators and the likes greatest fear is always being overthrown. You suppress the population, keep them trapped in poverty. Control the narrative and media influences. The biggest threat to Putin directly is his own people. Russians rebelling and bringing him down. They also know how well they have done at influencing the west themselves, the corruption around election results etc. ultimately if they can do to us then the theory being they themselves could be undermined by the west. Stability itself is the threat.
So yes there is a huge fear of the west and therefore of NATO.

I agree with you on these point. What I was replying to however, is that NATO is a threat to Russia. It isn’t. Other countries cultures impinge little on the population of Russia because what they see and hear is so controlled.
