No it doesn’t work like that. It was you who provided a figure saying America had given $360bn to Ukraine. It is for YOU to provide a source for that figure.

You can’t discredit a publicly known figure my friend without providing proof. The exact figure is neither here or there, the fact remains that without the US Ukraine would have lost within hours.

Livelovebehappy · 01/03/2025 08:42

I also feel sorry for the American non Trump supporters vacationing in Europe going forward, many won’t be getting a good reception. I work with an American lady who now lives and works in London and she said it was bad enough for them travelling during the last Trump term (and during the Bush years).

Awful bullying comment. Would you really judge visiting American tourists on the actions of their president? Do you judge people coming here from the Middle East on their leaders, many who are dictators? I would welcome any American visitor on their own merit.

Nice try. I will say it again. Calling it a ‘publicly known figure’ is not a source. And no, quoting some random on ‘X’ doesn’t count as a source.

In the same way we wouldn’t ’punish’ any other citizen from a country embroiled in difficulty such as Muslims or Israelis. It’s racist but the pp seem ignorant to the laws that surround discrimination.

What absolute bullshit. You know full well that you're spreading lies.

Someone else posting a figure without a source doesn’t count as a source. I’ll ask very nicely again. Provide a credible source.

No it hasn't, stop lying.

It can't be evidenced because it's not real.

Biscuitsnotcookies · 01/03/2025 08:50

You are being ridiculous and I won’t be engaging with you. If you are trying to say that the US haven’t invested billions and billions of dollars, then that is a matter for you. I however will stick with the facts.

Ukraine’s survival depends on US military support. No one is questioning that - except for you. The issue now is how to end the war not continue it. I think you are getting confused.

QuaintAquaSnail · 01/03/2025 08:52

BBC article on how much has been spent by US. BTW, it’s not $360 billion.

Biscuitsnotcookies · 01/03/2025 08:35

Can you attach some evidence that it’s a lie please? It wasn’t just hard weapons but also for the last ten years the U.K. and US have been training and providing support to Ukraine, and have been delivering strategic assistance. I believe the US was the main contributor to supplying Ukraine. The war would have been over in hours without it.

Edited

The BBC and the NY Times hsve been looking into this (again) over the last couple of dsys. The BBC investigation is on its website.

The Kiel Institute in Germany can account for $118B spent by the US and $130B spent by Europe. The latter accounts for both official EU spending and spending by individual European countries.

The US Department of Defense takes a wider view of American spending on Ukraine but according to the BBC website even they claim only $180B of American spending. No one seems to know how Trump roughly doubled that figure and he isn’t offering any explanation

The US has invested billions, but not close to the amount that you are claiming

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/crew8y7pwd5o

And it has not been doing it for the sake of charity. Until Trump, the US wanted to prevent Russian expansion. That's why NATO was founded.

Biscuitsnotcookies · 01/03/2025 08:54

The exact figures are irrelevant they are the biggest net contributors.

And the point is that the war needs to END. So what has or hasn’t been spent is largely irrelevant.

If ANYONE thought this would prove an end to the violence, you wouldn't be seeing this reaction.

Things will escalate from here.

Because it’s a deliberate propaganda tactic. The poster wants to cement that figure in people’s heads so they re-quote it until it becomes a ‘fact’.

It isn’t a bullying comment now is it 🙄. I’m simply passing on the view point and experiences of an American friend and colleague who lives in the U.K. It’s her experience not my actions or recommendations. But you carry on, twist away

OneLemonDog · 01/03/2025 09:01

The US is threatening to invade a EU Member, while it exports another in the midst of war. It is also threatening Panama and Canada, and then there's its plans for Gaza (which will further destabilize the Middle East).

It is giving Putin a win in Ukraine and telling Europe that it is done with NATO. Without US support, Europe is extremely vulnerable, and Russia will reinforce and expand (if the US did want to scale back on its contributions without leaving Europe vulnerable, they'd give a long, phased plan).

It is undermining European governments and destabilizing the continent.

We are barreling towards much larger wars than the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

Crikeyalmighty · 01/03/2025 09:02

It is totally irrelevant if the US provided £2.50 or 250 billion - the fact is at no point was it said that the aid and support was a loan that came with huge strings attached and that the US would want it back . The fact it was under a different administration has no bearing, you can't just change the rules in retrospect on a change of administration and now demand it back 'with menace and assets' because he wants the cash to 'look big' and please his puppet master -

Indeed. Even just ending support would be seismic. Extorting Ukraine is absolutely vile.

OneLemonDog · 01/03/2025 09:05

Incidentally, does anyone believe that Romania sent Musk's favorite sex traffickers to the US just for shits and giggles?

While they're publicly denying it, I have little doubt they were pressured.

Nonsense. You’re muddling up the messenger with the message. Passing on an observation, especially when it so clearly expresses sympathy, is not bullying. Things are difficult enough now for everyone without adding your own misplaced condemnation into the mess.

I don't blame America for not wanting to provide billions to Ukraine, whether 300billion or 1billion. How long should they fund the war? So much money thrown their way. So much help. Yet still the war rumbles on. However unpalatable it might be, some sort of agreement needs to be reached before three years turns into 10 years, 30 years. 50 years....
